Wednesday CBB games on TV

Umm...which one of these would you call good on defense during that 1st half? Bama gave up 55 and Auburn gave up 41, in 1 half.

Auburn and Alabama have top 15 and top 5 offenses in all of college basketball. The game is being played at a fast pace. Auburn has forced Bama into a ton of turnovers. Giving up 41 isn't bad at all.

in SEC play Auburn is giving up the least points per possession on defense. .92 points per poss. The next team is South Carolina all the way down at 1.01. Bama is 4th on defense giving up 1.02. We are giving up 1.12.

So yes. These teams are basically our offense with a defense to go along with it.

I know no one seen that Xavier D vs Nova on the final 18 seconds but that is how you do it. Nova didn't even get a shot off with 18 seconds left down 3. This is what Kentucky needed to do vs Florida.
Oh and Sean Miller called his final timeout after they made their FT with 18 seconds left to set up his D.

You have a very odd definition of good defense, but that is fine. I just hope you aren't one to criticize when we give up 41 in a half.

I will contend that Auburn played better d in the second, but how is Bama allowing 100 pts good D?

Also, 80 FT between the 2 teams looks like a foul-a-thon and maybe not great D. However, SEC refs do cause that issue.

I'm not specifically talking about one game. Obviously giving up as many points as Bama did tonight wasn't good. But they still rank 4th in defense during SEC play.

Points per game is a very poor way to judging this stuff tho. Scoring 80 points in a 60 possession game is a lot different than scoring 80 points in 80 possessions. One is a pretty good performance on offense, the other is below the D1 average.

I agree, but I also feel like Bama is the one top 4 team in the SEC that we can still catch short of beating Auburn at Auburn ourselves and/or beating Tennessee at Tennessee. They have a haul of a schedule.

(1 loss) Bama has @UA, @UF, @OM, @UK, plus UT at home ~ 5 tough games, 1 at home
(2 loss) Auburn has Bama, USC, & UK at home, @UF, @UT ~ 5 tough games, 3 at home
(2 loss) Tennessee has @A&M, @Bama, @USC, with Aub & UK at home ~ 5 tough games, 2 at home
(2 loss) S Carolina has @UA, @OM, @A&M, with UT at home ~ 4 tough games, 1 at home

If UK (4 losses) end with 6 SEC losses - with USC, Auburn, & UT all having tie-breakers over us - We can only top Bama unless one of the 5 collapses.
What decides Tennessee having a tie breaker over us if we all end up with 6 losses and we beat them in Knoxville? We split with each team losing at home and winning on the road back to back years in 20 and 21(our worst team ever went down and won by 15) so if we go down there and beat them then what's next in the tie breaker if we split the matchups

No matter how anyone spins it, neither team played good defense tonight. Can you say both teams are better on the season or in conference play? Sure! But I wouldn't want to look like either team on defense the way they played it tonight. Sadly, that is pretty much exactly what our defense looks like minus all the fouls.

Correction 61 fouls and 85 total FTA.

The worst crews in the SEC, that’s absolutely embarrassing. No college game should approach 2:40 in regulation.

Also anyone watching the Mizzou game? They have a player named Honor who looks like Joe Mazulla. Giving me bad flashbacks.

Rupp arena is target practice for these teams unfortunately
Look at the difference in the crowd, we have great fans and a large arena but it doesn’t feel intimidating when everyone is sitting all game and golf claps. Only the Big Z game did it feel like a great atmosphere. Look at Auburn, loud and fans are right on top of the court. It’s crazy awesome college atmosphere they definitely helps them. I’d love for UK to build a new stadium, lower the seats to around 15k, have like 7-8k lower seats where Students make up 60% of the bottom rows.

That would be great and a refreshing change. But Barnhart will never do that. To many donors and big money people sit in the lower levels

I mean there's multiple ways of looking at this. An Auburn win keeps Bama closer but it's highly unlikely UK is jumping Bama, Auburn, UT and South Carolina to win this league.

Think the goal should be get a double bye spot. Auburn getting their 3rd loss might not be bad.

So now we really need the mid-level teams to win their home games this weekend.

Auburn is at Florida
Alabama is at LSU
Tennessee is at A&M

Those can all be losses that puts us right back in the thick of things.

It would be the head-to-head record against the other top teams. If we lose to Auburn and already lost to USC, we would be in quite a hole with all 3 of these teams due to the tie-breakers, which is why Bama (home matchup with us) seems like the easiest team to pass as of today.

However, UT has USC, UK, Aub, & Bama left as well so they could be in the same hole as us, IF we can beat them at home.

Yeah I think at this rate we are going to need some massive help from a bunch of mid level SEC teams. We lost @ A&M so really need UT to follow suit.

I think perhaps the biggest obstacle tho is our remaining schedule. We have four high level games in conference and 3 of them are on the road. We get Bama at home but then have Auburn, UT and Miss St all on the road. The other games "should" be Ws.

With all the teams to jump I really think UK would have to just are the max 1 conference game to win the league. That's highly unlikely.

Right now Kenpom is predicting this
14-4 Auburn
14-4 Alabama
14-4 UT
12-6 South Carolina
10-8 UK
10-8 Florida
10-8 Texas Am

All those teams might not get to 14-4 but I feel pretty confident one will. This conference might be out of reach already.

But catching South Carolina (who has gone from massively underrated by everyone to massively overrated) isn't impossible.
