Having watched his High school and college games Patrick is best when he has the green light to run. I think right now the coaches do not want him running. I think you have to take the bad with the good. Yes this will hurt at times but it will help keep the defenses honest which would allow more open receivers. IMO. Patrick throws on the run pretty well.

Tend to agree...it would add the playbook instead of taking away plays. A few QB draws and some QB keep on read options can generate some offensive plays...not as much as Brown was calling but 3-4 designed QB runs wouldn't hurt anyone.

I agree, nearly every sack he took the other night had 20 yards of green grass down the middle. He just chose to eat the ball rather than scamper for a first down.

I agree...that is what makes me think they aren't crazy about Barker or Phillips. The QB has to keep it some for the read option to work. Put the whole package in...roll him out use the tight end. Coaches are coaching not to lose not to make turnovers not to get behind chains. Basically they don't trust anybody on the offense.

If you run from the shotgun and use a spread type of offense the QB has to run - period. If not every OLB and DE will just collapse inside and not keep their assignments and leaves nowhere to run except a 1 yard gain. Threaten the edge with the QB and now you have a hat on a hat inside.

Patrick being allowed to run as he did last will not help things. It will just make us even more one dimensional. Our best running game is our RBs. We don't want our QB with 20 carries again. Also defenses last years stopped defending the pass altogether. We need a QB that can be at his best in the pocket throwing the ball. If Patrick can't do that then he isn't the answer at QB. We shouldn't mess up our system to accommodate a QB that's not executing.

Please people, It is not a running Patrick that we need, it is a Veteran Oline that needs to protect. Winning and losing begins in the trenches

If you run read option your qb has to keep the ball enough to make the def.account for him...if pat is the qb then I to think they need to run him 4-8 timed a game...while it takes a few carries from boom it will in return give boom a bigger chance at breaking a couple of big runs...would you want boom to carry 20 times for 90 yards or 12-15 times for 130-150 yards.. It can make that big of a difference....

Auburn tried to make a pocket passer out of JJ and its not working..I think they will go to more of a qb running game and be much improved..wait and see, good coaches adjust and so should Dawson....

Well we don't have a few years to get a veteran O-Line in a week. The next option is to take the Reins off Patrick!!

It is a fair point we don't want to go back to Towles getting more carries than our best RB which happened at times last year. But 3-5 QB runs a game wouldn't be too bad of a thing and possibly generate some positive yardage in critical moments.

-as often is the case, the truth rests in the middle: we dont need last years pt running all the time...but the reigns need to be loosened enough by the staff to allow for two or three draws by design per game...as well as allowing for pt to run when the oline breaks down. He did it too much last year and heard it from the staff...he over corrected. Balance is key.

I feel the reason the staff is against him running is they are trying to limit his choices. It is obvious he is thinking too much and struggles to make quick good decisions. Drop back to pass, find your target, or throw it away.
