Would this season be looked at different if we had been the 2 seed in the West region and got to play Xavier, Gonzaga, and SC on our way to the title game against UNC...and say lost again? Think about if we just finish off UT or KU and prevent that mid-season slump that pushed us to the 2 line?

This season is being called a failure, but if circumstances were different we would have been playing UNC last night for a title. We beat UNC in a classic in Vegas and they beat us in a tight one in the Elite 8.

At the end of the year, we were some bad calls, a timeout after a made 3, and poor seeding away from a national championship. The "best team" beat us on a last second 3 when our team played horribly and was in foul trouble. We don't get a banner that says national runner-up...but to me they were on par with UNC. The sad thing about this is it will be a failure of a season in many people's minds.

Yes it probably would have been different had we've been in a different region but we can't play that card. Wouldn't say this season was a failure because it wasn't but people aren't going to remember it as much as other teams Cal has produced. People remember Final Fours, not Elite Eights. I do believe that Cal has to find a way to have and keep a more balanced roster. This past year was relatively balanced (experience wise with youth) and it almost got us to the Final Four. Assuming Bam and Briscoe leave, we are back to the drawing board next year again.

And in 2014 we didn't have WCS in the end. We should have been the team of destiny, not UConn.

Cal doesn't have to do anything. He's the most successful tournament coach since being at Kentucky DESPITE the officiating, seeding, and crap regions.

We can't expect him to overcome that for a Final4 every single year. Sometimes, the cards are stacked against you just enough.

You give us the UNC/Duke treatment, and you better believe we have 3-4 banners and another two more final4s.

The Elite 8 was the championship game and I've said that since the buzzer. It was a joke.

Christ, the UCLA/UK game could have been the Title game.. certainly a Final4. UCLA might not have made the Elite8, but you can't fault them, having to go up against Fox, Monk and co.

WSU/UK could have easily been an Elite8 game..

Same shit, different year.

Can't wait for draft night! So much fun to have great talent yr after yr and one title! Love it! We get a podcast too!

I agree.
If you swapped UK and Arizona we would have been in the final game. I think this season was very successful but we had a few extra obstacles in the tournament. I don't know how we can get seeded better unless they implement the S curve Cal has talked about. (We beat the National Champs in the regular season so we actually need a tie breaker now)

The team came together and played well up to the end.

I'll take "MORAL VICTORIES" for $800, Alex.

You are a fool. I have followed UK for 55+ yrs. IF I used your metrics I would only get to enjoy 5 seasonS.......I bet you have a whole wall full of awards........for STUPIDITY!

He said last week that we should expect a title every year and then out the other side of his mouth, 2 days later, he said he'd gladly take 5 crappy years for one title. He can't get out of his own way.

Don't know anyone who deems this season as a failure. Although I can't play the we would have made it to the championship game placed elsewhere Schtick. Gonzaga was very much a team that could have beaten us. Oregon could have beaten us in the final four, etc. I don't count games we didn't get to play as victories, if that were the case I certainly would have counted victories against uconn in 11 and 14 but we did get to play them and lost them both.

End the end you remember banners though. It was a great season though.

We lost the game to UNC (and the title) simply because the UK team and coaching staff wasn't prepared for an ending like that. UNC was. (I'll wash my mouth out immediately but it is true.)

You can complain all you want but what you don't get is that the years that we fall short is what makes winning a title so sweet. It is damn hard to win a title. I would bet the majority of this board had the height of their fanhood during the 90's run or the current one. Three straight title games 96-98 I know spoiled me. Enjoy the game, the player, and the fun it should be. That will make the next title very sweet.

Go watch a veteran team and root for them please. Maybe Villanova is more your style or AZ or Duke or UL or IU or Purdue. This is who we are right now. We can't force the kids to stay. Want Cal to recruit some average players so you can watch them grow for the next four years? See ya.

Exactly, it's hard to win titles. That's why when you have golden opportunities to do so you have to get them.
