We GAVE this game away…

Missed free throws(8 of them) 16 Turnovers, way too many fouls. Should have stayed in a zone. Tonight showed how valuable our starting guards are to us . Perry and the Mountain Mamba are valuable to our team but they are not ready for 20 plus minutes per game.
Man it sucks because we could have won this game and kept some momentum. Injuries suck.

Should have won this game even with the injuries. Up 65-60 with 4:30 to go and get outscored 18-5 the rest of the way? Pitiful. This team continues to not take nearly enough threes to beat people, and the turnovers tonight were really bad. A lot of them unforced, and 3-4 straight possessions. You can’t do that on the road and expect to win in this league, even against an also-ran.

Damn that sucks. At least it shows we can win without our guys but I really wanted to win this one. Why can’t we just get healthy. We haven’t had a full team in conference I don’t think.

Anytime our offense relies on Oweh or Williams going 1v1 to get points, we’re probably screwed. Neither are good enough to lead an offense. I like both guys but they aren’t good enough to build an offense around. Brea looking like he had money on UT and Carr also being a no-show killed us too.

The simple truth is that this team is a bit of a band of misfits, and when we aren’t shooting well we are probably going to struggle to win, especially when we are missing our top two PGs and our starting SG.

lol in case you haven’t noticed we have some injuries. If we don’t play them 20 min a game who do you suggest? Some more Chandler? A bit of Walker horn?

It also leads to a first round exit in the tournament.

No Jax or Butler
Carr still a shell of himself
10 2nd half turnovers
8 missed FTA
25% 3pt FGA
14-1 Texas run late in the 2nd half
Brea 0-6 FGA
Lazy effort on the glass numerous times and contesting shots.
58 points combined from TX Mark/Johnson

Yes we did. Turnovers and fouls/defense.

This team is exhausting to watch because nearly every game is close. We hardly ever put power five teams away. It’s because we can’t defend well enough. Even early in the season when we had everyone healthy we couldn’t put power five teams away. Thats a recipe for disaster in the post season. If you let teams stay close in March you will be sent packing.

We are 6-6 in the league and only have 2 safe wins left. Then there are two games that are nearly locks to be losses (Auburn and Bama). So at Missouri and at Oklahoma are absolutely crucial. We have to split those to stay at .500 in league.

The loss tonight nearly guarantees we will not have a top 4 seed in the SEC tourney. If we can’t win some road games we may be heading for a Wednesday game in the SEC tourney.

Going into the game felt like it was going to be a tall order because of the injuries and who the burden was going to fall on. But UK had every opportunity to win this game and basically just quit in the last several minutes of the game.

Williams was having a great game. Then in the last few minutes, Williams quit rebounding on free throws and luckily on 1 Oweh stole the pass for a dunk. Williams has an offensive rebound fall into his lap late and instead of powering to the rim shoots from his chest and gets it blocked.

Perry and his play was just atrocious down the stretch. The pass or whatever you call it where he just lobbed the ball to the sideline when Williams was taking his spot at the top was bizzare. The point guard short arming an in bound pass is inexcusable. Perry doesn’t want the ball and that’s a problem.

The guys just are mentally weak. They give up far too easy and Texas took it.

They CAN'T take three's because they won't WORK to GET OPEN. Taking a three with a man in your face, just because you're standing behind the line, is not smart basketball. These guys don't work for one another, and if you watch they spend most of their time passing it back and forth behind the top of the key because the opponent is giving them all the space in the world to do so. It accomplishes nothing.

Imo he needs to use perry/Noah as shooters. Not try to initiate offense with TP in that "critical" time frame! There were so many breakdowns due to inexperience of TP. Use oweh/Williams picknroll at the middle of the court with Almanor Brea Noah in the corners and wings to open the middle of the court! I really felt Pope could've won the game by putting the right guys in the right position!
Also he runs good offense, but he really struggles to run set plays to get his shooters/Brea open 3's.
For him to go to the next level coaching, he needs to be able to get his guys open shots from his set plays. And also be able to come out of time out and stop the opposing team. You definitely can't let perry get caught on a switch with "that" dud!
I could go on and on. But Pope needs to grow as a coach!

Exactly right about Travis. At one point in the game, Travis ran to an area halfway between the basket and the three point line, received a pass with his back to the basket, saw that he was wide open and what did he do? Passed it right back out. Inexcusable. If you're going to pull a Kobe and just burn clock and get your cardio in, then go SIT.

Without Robinson or Butler to play PG, there are no safe wins.

😬 hope you are wrong. We should be able to take care of LSU and Vandy at home. If we can’t even without Butler and Robinson we are in trouble. Would be something to lose the last 6 games and finish 6-12. Not sure that gets us in the tourney.

i admit, it felt like if we just got one 3 from brea the game would have been ours. pope called his number when it was 74-70. i thought that was premature to go for 3, but whatever. it wasn’t his night.

We lack the guard that can penetrate and create offence for others

Hopefully that will be improved with two freshmen guards with better athleticism

But defence and rebounding may be even worse next year

If Garrison is the starting center next yy, we have no chance to be strong team at all. Soph Nick is way more better than Soph Garrison. Dont expect Garrison to be developed into starter level next year, would rather Morelo over Garrison

Without a PG , we are in trouble. we are missing 30 pts out there without those guys Take 30 pts off of any team and they'd be in trouble just like us.
