Watterman is a Cardinal

I find it really odd that 2 or 3 of Louisvilles transfer gets are from BYU. What, did Pope's guys come to visit him, and make a pit stop at UofL? Obviously I know that it wasn't 100% that Pope wanted these guys for UK next year.. but still just very odd, especially when BYU had a pretty talented coach coming in.

Pope is going to have more of his past guys choose a soon-to-be rival of his, as guys that followed him. Just weird to me.

Just has to do with need, IMO. UL had playing time available, we did not with Waterman. As far as Khalifa, we gave him a cursory offer but were more serious about other guys.

Now if Robinson went to UL that would raise my eyebrow.

When did Waterman visit?

So the little brother got two of Coach Pope former players? Do we think that’s coincidental?

Pryor is an interesting player. Terrence Edwards from JMU if he can work on his 3 point shot and display more discipline on defense ( fault prone cause highly emotional player) has all the skills to become a pro player.

Regardless, it looks that rivalry series is renewed: Pope vs cardinals.

Odd couple.

He’ll be a good player for them, they needed a guy at that spot. We didn’t pursue him, already had that position covered.
Meaning no offense, Wonky, and respectfully ... I don't think Waterman could have ever seen significant playing time with U.K. I'm not the least bit distressed that he signed with the Dirty Birds. He may be a good player for them, but ... if so ... I'll be surprised.
But, whatever ... Go 'Cats ! ! !

So I guess UL is going to have a frontcourt of Pyror and Waterman... They are going to hit 3's but not be great in the paint and wont be able to defend much if any.

I'm sure the reason why we got Almonor and didnt push hard for Waterman is that Waterman wanted a starting spot and he's just not as good and doesnt have the bulk nor inside game Carr has. Almonor is 4 inches shorter yes but better outside shooter and willing to take limited minutes to try and prove himself as a backup.

I personally like our front court options better and thats not from a bias either, if we wanted to go UL's route of being able to do 5 out, well go Almonor and Carr and they are better 3pt shooters than UL's 2 bigs there and better passers so, Williams for that defense and passing ability. National people praising UL and over looking UK is odd, feels more like just under dog rooting to me

Yes. It is very odd and difficult to understand.

Pope never offered any of the players that went to Louisville. Not sure why you think Pope would have to take his guys from BYU. Pope wanted 3 guys from BYU, one does not play, Coach Fueger. The other never played for BYU Chandler and finally Jaxson Robinson. Pope has the guys he wants, you do not pick up a guy so your rival does not get your leftovers.

One of the most stark examples of putting words in someone's mouth. Yeesh.

It isn’t that odd. We never offered either of them and had better options on the roster so they would have been taking backup roles.

UL is going to be running a similar skill based, heavy on the 3pt shot, play the analytics offense (same as Charleston ran last season)…. So it makes since that similar players would be pursued. BYUs style translated to what UL will be doing too….

Yup misread. My mistake.
I think Kelsey and Pope run similar types of offense. I think maybe he wants guys that can run that offense. Makes sense to me in the fact that I thought we would get at least one guy that knew the offense to help others come around quickly.

I think it’s more because of how bad they were last year. They have definitely improved more than anyone in the country I believe. Hard not to winning three games a year or whatever they did. Haha. We did an unbelievable job with the time they had to get players and I honestly can’t think of anyone I’d trade with them. Kelsey has done really good getting a few players though and they’re going to be decent. If I was betting on it I’d say over 15 wins. Probably 16-18 and some whippings from us a few others. Still a lot better. UK 109- the dirty birds 28! Ha.

I’m sure he wanted Saunders and so would we have. The kids a player. Just timing and him growing up loving his cougars. His wife probably has family there as well so you know. It was still probably the hardest decision the guy ever had to make even though he loved playing for BYU. Everything else is spot on.

Jmo but we could've had those guys. Pope and Co just felt they could get a better caliber player. This is a great sign imo because when these guys were rumored to be looking at UK, I was worried we would be BYU east which wouldn't cut it. Yes I know they had a good season but it's different when you're everyone's Superbowl.

I think Louisville took them because it's the best they could do. Doesn't mean they won't do well there and potentially develop into better players. But imo that's what happened.

Robinson and Saunders were definitely wanted.

It seemed like at first we were going to have D. Smith, Mahaney, Saunders, and Robinson and now more like Butler, Lanier, Brea, and Oweh.

Atiki, their first get, is close friends with the other two who followed - nothing else to see. Honestly, those three aren’t UK caliber anyway.
