I was re-watching the UK-ND Elite Eight game, and I decided to focus on how Zach Auguste really shredded Kentucky's huge frontcourt to keep the Irish in the game.
Basically, he was following their guards into the paint, taking advantage of Kentucky's aggressive efforts to block shots and attacking the rim. ND was also setting picks for him to give him a lane to the basket as the guards were attacking. Most of his 20-plus points were right at the rim, after a defensive shift by the Cats brought on by penetration.
So, who else is perfectly designed to attack the basket the same way? Also 6'10.'' A few pounds lighter than Auguste was (at least last year) but with great explosion off the floor? They even have a similar hair cut...
I'm not making a direct comparison between Marcus Lee as a junior and Auguste last year.
But with Ulis, Briscoe and Murray able to get into the gut of defenses, I hope Cal works on having Lee and Alex Poythress attacking the basket with proper timing in the seams created.
