He would have come back on the condition that Tubby's contract we bought out. That was turned down by UK

No. He wasn't very good at that point. He was mediocre at Louisville until he got the right group together in 2011/2012
I really wanted that to happen. Wasnt aware it almost did. I was just so ready to get rid of tubby after the back to back losses to Syracuse and USC in the ncaa. Syracuse loss was especially painful to sit and watch. Just abysmally bad basketball. Pitino. Coming back to college after failing at Boston I just wanted tubby fired and get Rick back to pick up where he left off.

Tubby was a good coach. In retrospect, his style was just hard to watch after watching Pitino’s teams
That was my dad's biggest gripe. Methodical Tubby ball was nothing compared to Pitino's run and gun, press, and tempo.
I got into UK basketball when we had Crawford, Bradley, and Jasper. I thought they were awesome and my dad had to just sit there and shake his head. The man knew. 😂
He was at Louisville at that point, and untouchable. Even if he would have wanted to come (and back then he was still too prideful to admit leaving UK was a huge mistake), I don't think anyone at UK (or anyone in the fanbase) was even willing to consider him as an option. He had sold his soul at that point.
