Was it just me or did anyone notice

that most of our points came on lay ups, shots right around the rim or free throw line. I know we hit a few outside shots but seemed like we struggled with mid range jumpers.

How it should be. We also missed a lot of easy ones and missed out on many other opportunities in transition because of a lack of rebounding in the first half.

With the advantage Briscoe, Ulis and Murray have, they should be going to the cup all day and all night. If outside shots come open, you take them. Also, I'm not worried about the mid-range game much because that is something Skal will excel in. He just never got in rhythm the other night.

We didn't take all that many mid range jumpers. This is just off the top of my head from what I can remember, but I think Skal took one, Jamal took one and Isaac took one, all missed. Tyler hit one and we shot 3-10 from three.

I wouldn't call that struggling from mid range, the sample size is too low. We just didn't need to take many.

We killed them off the bounce and in transition.

Not sure why you would want to take the hardest shot in the game when you can relentlessly punish them on the dribble.

I'm not disagreeing with dribble drive with the guards we have, just saying if teams play zone or take away the dribble drive it could give us trouble with outside scoring threats.

I'd argue that having mostly lay ups is what makes us even scarier, because we won by 11 and DIDN'T even knock down the open shots from outside.

Our guys short armed a lot of shots and shot some bricks from the outside but I attributed that to nerves on the big stage. I thought both teams played like they were nervous .

No need for jumpers, when you get layups. We've got more than capable outside shooters when the time comes. Don't you recall Cal chewing out Jamal for taking that one 3? "Drive the ball!" was his response I do believe.

Good luck with that. You name a team that can stop Murray, Ulis and Briscoe from getting to the the lane.

PS: You can't name NBA teams.

Exactly what I was about to say. Murray and Skal hit those shots in a month.

yeah, thats the way it should be. With the new rules it will make it easier to get to the rim. Why not take advantage of that.

Also it will put us on the line more often and put our opponents in foul trouble quicker. This is the offense Cal wants and we have the perfect guards for it this season.

I'm not so sure going to the line is a good strategy for us right now.
I thought Lee would be better at free throws by now. He has clearly worked on most everything else.

I kinda feel the same way. But in theory going to the line benefits us in two ways. First and foremost we get two free shots at a open rim. Second our opponents have to change their style of play as they start to pile up the fouls. So they will be playing more timid as the game progresses and the lanes should start to open up slightly, thus allowing us to get to the rim more often. Of course that is just the theory...

I'll feel better about it once our guys start clicking from the free throw line.
It amazes me that we beat Duke that badly given the amount of points we gave away. Not only at the stripe but we made so many mistakes all night long. Once those mistakes get cleaned up this team could be better that the 2015 squad.
