Haha only you would say this. True to form

So split here, love to see him get PAID but he'd be a force with his style on a contender. A true contender

Glad he is taking a full week to think on it

It's 4 years 170 min..that's 42.5 a year. It's ok to take a couple days to see if a contender will match it, but don't wait too long.grab the money.

Wall should totally wait. Wiz have to get more and better parts. He has plenty of cash already, dude wants to win.

John please go play for an
Organization who knows what they're doing. I'm so tired of rooting in the wiz in your name!!! But if he signs that big ass contract I'll still be purchasing wizards gear I guess. Johns my dude.

Dude I couldn't agree more. But selfishly and insanely I hope he wants to win one, a title. Ain't gonna happen in DC imo

This is a 4-year extension in addition to the 2 years left on his current contract. He would be 32 years old going on 33 at the conclusion of this deal.

Wall is rich. He's going to be rich no matter what he does. That contract won't have any higher of an impact than one slightly lesser for his life. Go find an organization that you can retire with and work toward your legacy and the HOF.

How many teams actually have the salary cap space to match that? Probably not many except bottom feeders. I believe Curry just signed a 5 year $200 million contract with Golden State. This is getting ridiculous with $40+ million dollars a year contracts. It would be nice if he could team up with Davis in New Orleans, but they probably couldn't afford him. They probably will have to lose Cousins already with the amount he and Davis make.

Yup. Some people are absolutely obsessed with hoarding money for no apparent reason. I mean come on, 42 million a year to lose constantly or 35 to be happy? You're dying with a pile of cash either way.

NBA will not change during Wall's prime years. He's defining his life, and he's only 26. Tough stuff...

Basically he has to decide whether making the most money or winning is his number one priority. Heck, he is rich beyond imagination either way he goes. The way I see it, there is no wrong answer, just a matter of which direction he wants to go.

Why cut ticket prices when fans are showing up? This money is coming from the increase in TV revenue, not an increase in ticket prices. Also, this is how things work in a free market.

No other team can match it. Only the Wizards can offer him the supermax. He needs to sign that contract immediately!

But if Wall leaves the wizards to go join a better team, wont the rest of this board shit on him for not being like Jordan and sticking with the POS organization that drafted him?

They don't lose constantly, they were the 4 seed in the east and just a couple of games out of 1st place. Wall is locked into to Washington the next 2 years regardless because he's under contract. In order for him to sign with another team and get a max deal, he'd have to wait 2 years, hope the market is the same that it is now, hope to not have any injuries, give up his super max and Bird rights. So if he risked all that, everything worked out perfectly, and found a contender to sign with, he'd still be leaving at least $50 million on the table. $168 million is generational wealth and way too much money to risk.

Sports in this country has become ridiculous when an individual can be paid 40+ million dollars a year just to play a game. Yes, I know it's a big business but with all the problems so many face in this country I just can't see paying a player that much just for a game. Our priorities are out of whack in this nation and I'm probably guilty as anyone for it since I support sports so much myself. Just crazy. Having said that, I believe Wall will probably sign that awesome deal as if he turned it down in hopes of going somewhere else in a couple of years he could lose it all if injured before then. Crazy money being thrown around out there in the sports world.

One thing no one has mentioned is a career ending injury. If he signs the extension he gets paid $170 million no matter what. If he were to get injured in the next 2 seasons he misses out on it. The extension is a nice security blanket.

I mean I can only imagine how me and my family's life would change with 5 million dollars. Jesus.

Me and John Wall live in different worlds. It would take me more time to say "I accept" than it would to think it over.
Ha no doubt!

And to those of you saying he should want to win more...when someone offers you 40 mil a year to play basketball, you are already winning!

Hall of fame has many players that never won a title. Leaving doesn't guarantee that. Sometimes it's a matter of timing and Wall plays in an era that Lebron led teams will win the east and spurs/warriors rule the west.

I'm glad he's taking a while to consider everything involved. If he's happy in DC, then take it. If he wants to join a contender for less money, I could understand that too.

John is already rich, it's just a matter of how he feels personally.

Sign the contract. Take the money.
He also needs to accept that he will be the best player on a bad team. He won't ever advance past the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs.
On his next contract he can take less and try to end up as the fourth option on a super-team and get a ring.

Edit: Change bad to middle of the road.

Take the money for this major reason:

He could help more people. That’s where true legacy is found, and Wall seems like the type of person who understands this.

For all the talk of going to a contender, screw that. Use the game to your advantage and help the world around you. $168 million in additional wealth could be dispersed, in part, to so many additional people. Even if he gave a fraction of that away to others (10%, for example), it would be more than this entire message board will likely give away in our collective lives.

That’s legacy that lasts long after little kids finish having discussions on whether Wall is still the best point guard in the league. Life is bigger than basketball, so use basketball to maximize the things that matter most.

But he must also take all the shit he is going to get from their fans... "making super max and we still can't past 2nd round"
He will get all the blame.

and its funny fans think this bothers guys for more than about 5 seconds. 1 day after the season is over, all these guys bolt to miami or wherever to disappear. while they are floating on yachts in the caribbean do you really think they are miserable thinking: "omg i let down all those fans".

So you're against a free market? It sounds like you favor communism.

Not really that it bothers them enough, to not to such s large deal... but it does have to wear on one s bit, to being bashed by the media and fans...
good luck to him, either way

Wizards were one game from the Conference Finals last year.

Decent chance that Cleveland blows up after next year.

So if the Wizards play it smart, no reason they can't contend to go to the Finals for the next few years.

Figure Wall is just waiting to see what kind of moves they make before he re-ups.

But all this talk of joining a contender - who is that supposed to be? Not much room for Wall on that GS roster.

There will have to be some costs associated with making $46M a year. Most would consider it a fair trade.
