Wade to start? Interesting...

Last interview with stoops I heard said we were likely to see them all.
Coachspeak. Telling Iowa to worry about gameplanning for 3 diff styles rather than focusing on 1.

No Mark Stoops team in 10 yrs rotated qbs.....much less 3. Stoops is old school, he believes in picking 1 guy, giving him all the 1st team snaps and prep time, so his chances of success are maximized.

Well….. there was that one disastrous game down in Nashville in 2015 where Stoops and Shannon Dawson kept going back and forth between Towles and Barker. But yeah, by and large since then Stoops sticks with one guy barring injury or mop-up duty.

This will obviously not happen. It is alarmism.

This week, some people seem to think Keaton Wade will transfer because his brother has to spend a year backing up Devin Leary. But what if Destin Wade stays because he has a future at UK and because his brother is a blooming defensive star for UK? The Wade brothers will stay.

Sheron stays, or not, as a function of his desire to be a UK Wildcat. I think it's too early to conclude that Sheron cannot be successful in the SEC. Sheron has a pretty good arm, and seems to be intelligent. What I noticed in the SCar game was that Sheron's footspeed is not on the level of typical SEC QBs. That will probably hurt him. It is already hurting him in the competition to play in the MCB, since there is so much attention to Wade's running ability. For a QB, everything is about opportunity. Only one QB plays at a time. That will be a challenge for Sheron here.

Deuce is the kind of player you like to have on the roster in the unlikely case of multiple QB injuries. For a walkon, Deuce has length and upside. He won't embarrass you. But he is not the future. He has already transferred once. There is circumstantial evidence that he likes Coen, so I believe he stays.
As a twin, I can say that twins want to stay together. Sadly, I lost my twin at 11 years old, but I know in my heart that I would have always wanted the best for him. Seeing his brother do well should inspire Destin.

My point exactly. Not one of the three, barring injury to Leary, will see daylight in the fall. Can’t see any of the three staying except maybe Hogan who will serve as a clip board carrier for the team. He’s a graduate student who is older

Many are seriously shortchanging Wade. The guy has a nice arm, is a really good athlete, is very intelligent, is not a run first guy, was recruited by Coen who was very impressed with him. He's at UK not as a tag along with his brother but as a player who can eventually help UK win games.

It would behoove Wade to serve a year as Leary's backup then be at least a 2 year starter, maybe 3 year starter. It's an ideal situation for Wade. People need to put this basketball bullshit that "if you can't contribute at a high level as a freshman that you're a bum" out of their mind. This is entirely different.

It’s far to early to draw conclusions on either of the freshman. Kayia has barely played and Levis took this same offense and barely broke 100 yards vs vandy.. So to be frank not sure Kaiya was the issue. And obviously Wade hasn’t played a snap.

For one year, and one year, only.

In the Fall of 2023, likely either Wade or Sheron will be told they are the solid No. 2. If the staff feels comfortable, they can assure that player there will not be a transfer for starting purposes, but maybe for a backup brought in for ‘24.
Maybe your right Hack… the past forever says otherwise. We have not developed a quarterback since Moby Dick was a minnow.

I can’t speak for others but I’m not short changing him. I did see him in high school. He is not a guy that is going to hit guys with coverage around them all the way down the field. He’s a physical runner that will be a part of the running game and then punish you going downfield if you help on the run or if we just decide to throw balls up and let key go try to make a play even if covered. He’s a certain type of qb. And not sure how much success you’re going to have in your first action ever and against a good defensive team like Iowa. We may be able to get some stuff schemed open early but at some point his legs will have to be a part of the game to be effective. He may develop the passing part more as he goes forward as you suggest but in this game, he’s never played a game before and I wouldn’t necessarily say his development is on fast track…mid season they chose to play sheiron over him and sheiron will never be a starting sec qb. But I do think he can find ways to be effective down the road. I’m just not sure how much of that shows itself this week but he’s a better option than sheiron

Game plan.

Just watched his senior year hudl video. Great runner. Great change of direction and a long strider in open field. Will break tackles. That said, he has a much better arm than some on this thread suggest. He has arm strength to go deep and can drop it in over the top. Career 60 percent passer in high school with 37 tds vs 7 ints. That is a good completion average and a very good td to int ratio.

Marrow did say he can make all the throws. Some people think different. Regardless, with no game experience on this level and against the 10th best defense in the country let us not expect too much in the passing game. Just hope he can hit the open receivers because they are good and they will get open some.

I think if you read my take I’m saying he has an arm and can go downfield but it’s not like I saw anything where you can think he’s ready to fit balls in yet. Not just a year removed anyway. If anybody cares to do it I’m sure you can go watch whatever games might be on nfhs. They archive them there. I don’t know if Summit had their games on there but they would at least have playoff games on there because all tssaa playoff games are there. Just make sure you watch against a pretty good team. That way there is more to assess than watching against bad teams or cherry picked highlights.

They played 6a in TN last year and got to the state finals. They got a pretty good draw they weren’t the second best team. Nonetheless, you can go watch them on there play Oakland. It’s much better competition there although Summit didn’t play any of the private schools. But that game is against a really good team. Even their semifinal win against Hendersonville, who upset somebody to get there, would at be a solid game to watch too.

Hendersonville was the only team south warren lost to last year in a season when they beat Douglass in the ky playoffs. That’s a solid not great program in tn to watch against. Although for comparison sake Oakland is much better than many public schools and on par with the best private schools if someone decides to watch the state champ game. Oakland beat Hendersonville by 40 or 50 and Hendersonville beat south warren in a one score game

But what will happen is we will be looking at the next great transfer in the portal and Wade and whomever will be jumped over again

I live in Somerset and just before T-giving had a conversation with someone who has ties to Sheron's high school program. That doesn't mean this is behind the scenes info but, my guy said he expects Sheron to transfer at some point.
TIFWIW

I don’t see any of these three quarterbacks staying past this game. They know who is starting in the fall and they know they have been recruited over.
1. Not even remotely likely to happen…but keeping on negativity pants make you feel better…then all be it
2. Leary is a one year kid…Wade in particular is way too young to expect to be ready for qb1 next year
3. But I won’t lose sleep over Hogan leaving…he could not see field at a bad Iowa qb room nor got the nod when Levi’s got hurt….so what is he at this point?
4. Sheron didn’t show anything in one game….but if he’s ready to leave …then go to EKU and have fun.
5. I’d argue Coen probably didn’t openly recruit Wade at Qb….he knew his brother was a take at Lber and we had room in Qb room…

There is an open competition after next year for the job, Leary is just one play away from getting hurt (again)…stay and win the job and be ready to take rhe job regardless for 2024. Any of the three if they hit portal will not get a Sec or Big10 offer IMO …so just stick it out

For '23, and that's it. Not much of a take, really. All of the young QBs on roster still have much eligibility left, and the opportunity to make a transfer QB unnecessary for '24.

Expect some quasi triple option ball control offense that will really have the recruits salivating.... Will need the defense to step up in this one

Wade senior highlights. Not sure level if comp in Nashville but looks to put the ball where it needs to be especially on long throws. Strong arm it appears as well. Could be the future after Leary.
Tn has good football and has gotten much better the last decade. A lot of D1 and p5 guys around mid tn now along with a lot of good coaching. Lots of former professionals getting involved there too because of the type of city and staying involved in the game.

The games with the 'C' in the middle of the field is the state champ vs. Oakland, who was a top 20 nationally team. Most of Oakland's big time players were on offense that season but they are well coached and play good physical football on d but they didn't have a top end elite guy that season or anything. Again, probably more fair to watch the entire game instead of a few highlights but the twins' school definitely had to rely on them more than other good teams. They weren't as deep as the elite teams there.

As a comparison...

For 23 KY has 2 4-stars and around 10 P5 guys. 4.5m people
For 23 TN has 12 4-stars and around 40 P5 guys. 6.9m people
Ohio is similar to TN. One less 4-star. 11.8m people

Relative to population that outperforms Ohio significantly.

I just looked up quickly commitments by Mid Tn specific players. There are 27 signed to p5 schools at this point including ND, BAMA, TAMU, UK, MISS, MISS ST, AUBURN, VANDY, PURDUE, ARK, CAL, DUKE, COLO, MIZZOU, VATECH, OKLAHOMA.

Unfortunately UT has 5 guys from there and in recent history have been getting very little out of mid tn during the area's fb improvement. Kids weren't interested in going there.

Oh no!!!!!! Hope our offensive scheme on 12/31 doesn't kill the recruiting class we already signed 12/21!!!!!!!!

Coen is gonna reinstall to his liking and it’s gonna be a reset of sorts anyways. No one come at me with it’s the same system. Obviously Coen did a better job teaching it.
And calling plays out if it.

That was a pretty ball on a dime.
IA's secondary is very good. We will have to complete some passes to keep their safeties out of the box. But staying in this game means UK has to run the football effectively. That will be difficult with Chris Rodriguez sitting the game out, but it will be necessary for the win. We can't realistically expect Destin to win this game entirely with his arm. Our coaches know that, so the offensive game plan will be interesting to see.

Of course, IA's offense is in a similar position since they are also starting a freshman QB with no game experience.
