W/CRod back at Ole Miss

I understand what bthaunert is saying. It’s one thing to get to the UGA game undeafeated then luck out and beat them if things turn out just right. We could get lucky and topple the one title contender we have on our regular schedule.

But to be a title contender you have to be a team that can deal with your entire regular season, winning in Atlanta, and running the table in the CFP. That takes more than luck.

We look good so far and things could definitely change. Given that it’s still only wk 2, I’m going with 10-2 or 9-3.

Ole Miss very likely will.be 4-0 as we should be at the end of September. Both very highly ranked

Definite CBS 3:30 choice? College GameDay in the Grove? Heard that a TON of UK fans scheduled this trip already before season started.

We need Arkansas to lose at Texas a and m because if Alabama and Arkansas are undefeated they are going there and that game on CBS.

If UK can avoid the injury bug for the most part and esp. to “Key” players, are we a legit title contender?

You know what I think, I want to hear from the rest of you on the record.
No, not there just yet, overall depth still needs to be deeper. That's the biggest difference between the Bamas and Georgias vs the bulk of us....it's starting quality depth, those teams 3rd stringers would be starters for most of us, these teams are loaded. Our starters are close to the top teams starters but there is drop off on the 2-3 deep roster. It's getting better but still not quite there.

I wrote this above…I feel we are a legit contender in the East as in I think we have about a 10% - 15% chance of splitting with UT/Ole Miss and then beating UGA at home. I would give us about a 1% chance of doing all of that and beating Bama in Atlanta.
Ok, I guess my response is simple then. Bama isn't great this year so if we're good enough to beat UGA anywhere we're good enough to beat Bama.

Our depth is just good enough IMHO, if we can avoid losing multiple key players throughout the yr.
Bama and Georgia can afford to lose key players UK cannot.

I think we have lulls in the offense that need to be worked out before we can consider ourselves a contender.

When playing against an actual top 10-15 team if your offense takes a quarter off, or you make special teams mistake after special teams mistake, you just won’t win those games.

@Ole Miss, hosting USC Jr, hosting Miss St, @Tenn is a sneakily brutal stretch of SEC games before a couple east weeks against Mizzou and Vandy.

I really wish our schedule could swap one of those middle games for an out of conference powder puff, because few teams in the country could play that 4 game stretch and not lose a game.

Look at Miss St. schedule, now “that” is brutal.
UK’s schedule will never be more conducive for a big run:
8 of 12 games at home
No Bama or Arkansas
Georgia at home
Stud QB
Stud RB
Stud WR
Studified D
Led by the winningest coach in UK football history
This has to be the year.

bth if you think we are legit contenders for the East and UGA who is #1 in the Nation and defending NCAA Champs is in the East it stands to reason that if UK wins the East they are contenders for everything.
You are getting way, way out over your skis here. One game at a time. FWIW, I do not believe FL will be our toughest road game this year. More difficult games lie ahead.

Will Levis is a very good player, and Rodriguez has been missed. I like Coach Scan. But despite all of this, I still have some concerns about our offense, especially the left side of the OL. Special teams also have some problems to clean up, and they are the kind that could cost us a game or two if they recur. I am not saying they won't be good. I am saying the jury is still out. It is still too early to assume anything, although I like what I have seen so far from our defense. But in order to beat TN in Knoxville and challenge GA, everything will have to fall into place just right and Levis obviously has to stay healthy.

Solid Post. We owe TN and UGA and the UGA gm. is in Ky. Also, this is an entirely new O that UK is learning and I believe the next 2 games v mid majors at Kentucky will get the team prepared for a very difficult rd. game at Ole Miss.
We are better than Ole Miss and will go into the TN game at 7-0 and ranked in the top 5 for the 1st time in my lifetime and I’ll be 56 yrs. old next mth.

Plus we will have a bye week after Miss St and before at UT which will help UK immensely to heal and prepare.
This is the yr. Rembrandt.
UK has already commenced to painting a beautiful picture for you this season.

Fair. The law of averages says that the more things you need to do, the less likely it is. While I think we could beat either UGA or Bama at home this year (again, about a 10% - 15% chance), I think we have a 1% or less chance of beating both Bama and UGA, one of which is at a neutral site. I don’t think that’s as crazy as some are making it out to be.

Mississippi State will be a very tough game to win, they're playing really well and their defense is stout

I'm not going to get too worried about Miss State just yet, the've played Arizona and Memphis, its not exactly the tell tale programs. I want to see them against SEC competition before I decide whether we should be worried about them upsetting us at Kroger Field, where we shut them DOWN last time they were here.

Agreed but I give UK the edge based on where the game is being played (Ky.) and UK having revenge factor from last yr.
Plus, Stoops teams usually take care of one trick ponies.

CROD is BACK!

Very well could be. But I feel like Bama/Ark. could be the bigger draw that day. Only other game of significance that I see on the schedule. Maybe OK St. and Baylor, but I would think that would be choice number 3.

I think we are legit contenders for the SEC East and a trip to Atlanta. But we are not legit title contenders imo.
I don't see how you can be one and not the other? If we were to beat UGA to win the east, that'd make us a serious contender for the natty title.
