This is CLASSIC. I especially love that the bias is starting to get called out, along with Duke's payment of players. I think last night was enough for a lot of fans.

Per Barstool Sports

So Dick Vitale was on a Baton Rouge radio show this morning. You can click here to listen to it and I highly suggest it because, well, Dickie V LOST HIS MIND. It’s somewhat long – right around 20 minutes, but here are some of the highlights.

Vitale starts the interview defending Pitino right away, because, well, that’s what Dickie V does. Obviously the interview was based around Will Wade being suspended from coaching with report that Wade was on wiretap discussing paying players.

Because it’s Vitale he thinks the worst thing that can happen in college hoops is paying players. He loses his mind during games – when he’s not discussing replays – to talk about how this is the worst possible thing in college basketball.

I was shocked about Vitale using ‘damn.’ We know his no curse word rules so you know he’s flustered here on a radio show being called out for being a hypocrite. Listen, I love Vitale’s love for the game. He’s one of the guys you think of when you grew up with college hoops. But, it’s time for him to be pushed out. He’s lost it.

The radio hosts dropping nuggets like ‘how much did Duke pay for Zion’ and bringing up all the other reports was beautiful. Just casually dropping it in to jab at Vitale.

I can’t remember Vitale losing his mind like this. I mean he absolutely entered the interview firing. He was ready to go. He was ready to fight. Here’s part of the thing. We have to know, especially now, that everyone that covers anything has their preferences. They defend their people and aren’t afraid to speak out about others.

Just don’t you dare call Vitale a hypocrite. Don’t you dare.

I'm still waiting for any reporter to ask the simple questions about a Kansas assistant being caught on tape discussing the financial requests of Zion Williamson's family. Where has the family been living this year? Where were they living last year?

It's not like Duke signed him after that became public. It was long before. But I guess the glory of the Duke name put the Williamson family on the straight and narrow, and they called off the auction once Duke became involved. Right.

And just like the "Marvin Bagley is miraculously eligible after only 3 years in HS, 1 semester of which came at a "school" where the players never attended class" situation, all we get from Duke is "he was thoroughly vetted by the NCAA".

People aren't buying it any more.

I thought Dickie was going to have a heart attack when they brought up the ACC and Dook and the UNCheats. "I came on your dam show" LMFAO! Dickie Vs glass eye was probably rolling in his head during that interview. Then when he asked Dick how much did they pay Zion at Dook he calms down and starts wiggling and talking about they should pay the players LOL. Diverts like a pro after the Zion comments and that's that. Dick says been on long enough, gotta run. Kids battling cancer for the kids, mount Rushmore, Shack is on there. LMFAO!

Trayvon Duval started as a freshman for Duke and is from down here in Florida. Attended 4 different high schools in 4 years. I asked a well connected AAU Coach over on the Fort lauderdale area if Duval could get into Duke, he just started laughing

Retire already.
No way baby! King rat gives me a drop of his blood each year to keep me going. I'm in it as long as my master is.

Didn't Duval graduate from the high school that's caught up in this college admissions scam? Pretty sure someone from that school was arrested for falsifying test scores for students. That would explain how Duval received the necessary scores to qualify for Duke.

I didn't listen to the whole thing but I just LOVE how Cal's name and Kentucky hasn't been attached to anything...lol, it has to eat these other fan bases alive. Kansas, Duke all over the place and Cal just sitting there like Shaggy, "it wasn't me"....bahaha.

There is a reason these recruits have been going other places....

If the stuff is true with the Kansas assistant coach and Zion, surely it has to be mentioned in the upcoming trials. Never mind I forgot Duke and Carolina run the NCAA.

They're all too busy writing pieces about how classy K is after his team is gifted another win by corrupt refs. Goodness, that guy is vomit inducing. I really can't watch him. He's so fake.

How in the living hell did these radio guys not bring up UNC?
They kept trying to make the point that the whole issue is not about the LSU issue but the hipocracy
but Dickie kept skillfully deflecting back to why they were denying the Will Wade thing and they let him wear them down and get away with it.

They never really could get him to answer the direct question which should have been, why does it appear your dial is set to defend your friends and dismiss any details that suggest problems for them yet jump feet first on others you are not as close to.

Like I say they tried but kept trying while he was still filibustering and never waited for a clear pause to clearly get that quesrption out to where he could just ramble over it or say he didn't understand the question.

Oh man...he has truly lost it...here’s what I got out of that “interview”:

DV on LSU’s coach and fans:
“Did you hear the tapes? Listen to the tapes! Your coach should never say those things about paying players!!!”

DV on being asked about Zion being paid:
“Well here’s how we fix it, Let them be paid!!! They deserve it. They generate millions! Pay the players!!!”

Holy crap. That’s 21 minutes of hearing nothing BUT hypocrisy in regards to LSU vs the possibility of Zion had a payment plan laid out. JFC.

Did Vitale give the guy AIDs?

Well, Dick may be screaming and cussing, trying to make a fuss, but all he did in that interview is prove their point. He takes up for his buddies but condemns a guy like Wade, who is not his buddy. Vitale has too many pals in this business. You don't work this business for 40 years without learning how to play this game. It's the same game the NCAA plays. They have their favorites and then they have the rest.

I wouldn't defend Will Wade for all the tea in China, but those guys are right about Vitale's hypocrisy. He will tweet about LSU's tainted wins in this tournament, but he won't whisper a word in the dark about Duke, Zion's family requesting money, and the fact that his family is living high on the hog while he's playing his one season. Now it's not a smoking gun, but there is clear evidence that these requests were made of Kansas. Are we to believe that Zion's family suddenly grew a conscience when Duke got involved?

Real good post.

We know that the FBI is involved in the sneaker company investigations. Therefore, IF there is any truth to these allegations of Duke “illegally” funneling money to players, then it will come out. That’s a fact. Until that happens, it’s simply a message board rumor. If nothing comes out then it means there’s nothing there.

But the text between Townsend and Code in regards to Zion's family asking for housing and jobs already did come out during Code's trial.

The problem for anyone who doesn't root for Duke is that there's 0 reason to think the NCAA will seriously investigate. Duke skated with Maggette, and no one looked seriously at what happened with Chris Duhon's mother, Lance Thomas's 80K jewelry collection, or the academic eligibility of Duval and Bagley.

Just like UNC, you point to the alleged authorities and say "nothing to see here, we're in the clear". People have no faith in the NCAA treating your school in an impartial manner. Fans are sick of it, and I have to wonder if other schools are getting sick of it, too. It has to burn Notre Dame's ass to no end that they gave up a big bowl check because players were ineligible for having a tutor help them cheat, when UNC got absolutely nothing for decade-plus wholesale academic fraud.

How do you LEGALLY funnel money to players?
Everyone else = illegal
Duke = Legal

When Jon Scheyer meets with him, he says “We don’t pay players at Duke.”
When Nate James drops him off at the airport, he gives him a piece of paper with the Nike bagman’s burner number.

I could be wrong but my understanding is that the Bagley family was provided Nikey money through the fatger’s AAU program, which from my understanding is completely legal.

As for the wiretaps, again, my understanding is that during the trial, someone “said” that Zion’s father (biological or stepfather?) was asking for benefits. There is no wiretap if anyone associated with Zion actually asking for benefits. There’s nothing you can do with that.
