Alright, time for Round 2.

First off, I hate that we only get 3 home and homes with the expansion to 16 teams, that really makes some schedules tougher than others and just sort of sucks.

Second, I’m really glad that Vandy kept Kentucky and Tennessee as home and homes this year. Is this a permanent thing? I hope so.

Third, both teams at 17-8, UK with a much better resume than Vandy, not sure who needs this game more? Vandy dropped a tough one to UTjr Saturday where Ziegler had a career day and the refs fouled out all of our post players (that wasn’t fun to watch).

I would guess UK would be about -7.5 for this one.

Any thoughts on the game?

Butler and Robinson back yet?

I expect Vandy to win ,UK is a shell of the team it was earlier in the year. It is tough to watch.
I don't expect to have Robinson or Butler and even if we have one the best we can hope for
is 70% to 80% of either player. If UK were to win I see it as an upset. We lost to a Texas team
that is not as good as Vandy. Maybe the home crowd gives us a shot but there is only so much
value in the home court. I wish I had a better outlook but I am a realist if nothing else

My understanding is each team has 2 permanent rivals now. UKs is vandy and UT. Same with other 2 of those schools. So we will play 2 times every season unless sec expands again.

I dont know what to expect with UK and doubt butler or Robinson play. Looking at the schedule, the two "easiest" games for UK are lsu and then perhaps vandy. Neither are easy in reality though. UK probably needs to win both as the other 4 games are challenging (ou isn't good but on the road).

No one on UK except Butler at 90% can even remotely guard Jason Edwards, and Butler is nowhere near 90%. Heck, he probably doesn’t even play.
So, I predict a Vandy win as Edwards gets 20+.
I so hope I’m wrong!

We are very fortunate that Byington went out and got Jason Edwards, one of my favorite Dores in a long time.

He’s the one guy that has been pretty consistent for us. He got hurt at LSU and then barely played against Miss St or I. Elite he’d be leading the SEC in scoring right now. He’s fun to watch.

That said, the guys that determine if we win are usually AJ Hoggard and Jaylen Carey or Tyler Nickel. Hoggard was 3-12 against UTjr and that killed us. Refs fouled out Jaylen Carey in about 20 minutes at UTjr. Tyler Nickel is probably our best shooter but he is the most inconsistent guy in the team. He makes you scratch your head.

Should be a competitive game, we’re coming off two tough losses to Auburn and at UTjr, so having to travel to Lexington is like getting a stick directly in your eye.

Best of luck, boys. I’ll be pulling for y’all the rest of the way after Wednesday.

I watched the Texas game, I felt like UK was the better team all night and just made a few mistakes down the stretch. Hopefully Butler gets back sooner than later and Robinson gets back on the floor too. Those two are very good players.

I’m still a huge Mark Pope fan and I believe he’ll do his best work in the postseason.

Nope and won’t be for that game I’d say. I hope we can get y’all back. We need some wins while they sit for awhile.

Vandy sucks and if we can’t kick their asses in Rupp with our JV team then we should just forfeit the rest of the games.

No they don’t. Why do we keep doing this to other SEC teams? There are no bad teams and Vandy can absolutely beat us in Rupp. Frankly, with their five out offense, they *can* beat us in Rupp even when we are healthy. Any team that plays like they do can get hot and beat anyone on a given night. I think we will win but no disrespect to the Commodores.

There are plenty of bad SEC teams. We lost to one Saturday

We should have beaten Vandy there and would have if Butler would have kept from giving them the ball.

The SEC is going to fall apart in the NCAA like always.

This one and the LSU game are the only games I feel like we could possibly win in our current condition. And they will both be tough games. Hope we can win those, because at Bama, Auburn, at OU, and at Mizzou are all long shots for wins. I hope we can get at least one more win before the SEC tourney.
Okla is in the same category as lsu and vandy for me. I’ve watched them some and they are just not very good at anything.

You said we would handily beat Texas so hard to take your stance on the league seriously.

I think a sec team will absolutely win the national title. It won't be us though sadly.

I don’t know where you get that Texas is a bad team. It was not just a Quad 1 loss but a Quad 1A loss…technically a better loss than the home loss versus Bama. You don’t have to agree and you don’t have to feel that way but the facts are the facts. I feel we let one slip away that we had late but my disappointment had nothing to do with Texas being a bad team. I found most of your posts are good posts but you really missed the mark with this take.

At OU.

If it were in Rupp, I would feel more confident, but they will be hyped for that game.

I bet they will be on the bubble needing a signature win. Every time we play someone, we are their opportunity to “get right” or get a “Quad 1 win.”

It’s hard enough to win on the road, but with 3 players out and all these teams needing a win just to stay on the bubble, the odds are really stacked against us.

Let’s just hope refs aren’t ball watching with players at the free throw line. Or TP doesn’t get obliterated going for a layup.

Mark will have a game plan. If we execute we can win, even without Butler or Robinson. If we can’t execute, we lose. Then, won’t hardly be able to wait to see OP’s congratulatory post after! Man, if we lose I won’t be able to wait to see that. So excited.

Certain posters hate facts. They want to complain and facts messes up their agenda.

I’ve seen a lot of bad basketball over the years and I don’t think you’re right on this one. This Vandy team can be very good but truthfully, we do have some holes. We need a 3rd consistent scorer, and we need another big, but we do some things very well also.

Edwards is an elite scorer, and we have several guys capable of scoring 15-20 as well. Defensively, we are very hit or miss.

Best of luck.

Good to hear from you, brother.

We beat Tennessee at home short handed and we got ones acting like we can’t beat vandy at home. Will it be tough yes, but can Kentucky win yes
Short handed with only 1 of our best 2 players missing. Butler was out as well 1/4 of the game and we held on w a few big shots. That’s a lot different than playing 40 min without your 2 most critical players.

All season we’ve been able to consistently overcome missing 1 of our top 6. But every game we’ve been missing 2—we’ve lost with the exception of @UT missing Carr/Butler…but AA has proven to me much less of a step down from Carr than initially thought.

Not saying we “can’t” win…but acting like we should just overcome missing your 2 best players (or 2 of the top 3) is just a wild expectation.

I watched the Vandy game in Knoxville to get a look at Vandy. The statement that the refs fouled out the Carey kid is just BS. That kid plays hard and is a hard nosed kid but he probably had 10 fouls in that game. While watching I thought I hope the refs don't let him hammer our players likehe did in Knoxville. His fouls were not touch fouls. I really don't think he knows his own strength.
