Vols beat Vandy 5-3, and win their 1st Sec series of the year. Get this, Vol reliever Andy Cox goes 4 innings Saturday to get the save, throws 56 pitches. He comes back today throws 1 and a third innings and 25 more pitches for another save.
Question... Is that too much, or do some Coaches baby relievers a little much sometimes ?

I think that Tennessee has to do everything they possibly can to get wins at this point. The Tennessee bullpen is a trainwreck and so if there is someone that Serrano can lean on out of the bullpen he's going to lean as much as he can. Henderson is guilty of this a lot as well. That's why Lewis and Strecker pretty much have the most innings pitched. In fact, most years he only has 1 or 2 guys that he turns to out of the bullpen other than his closer.

Ideally you'd have more guys that you can rely on, but I don't think that happens all that often. It might happen if you have the ability to develop a deep bullpen, but that is really something that separates the best from the rest.

Sometimes Hendo babies his pitchers too much IMO, we have had some good bullpen outings, Strecker, Lewis, and Hjellie have been wonderful this season. Logue has potential, and sometimes shows it, but is a little inconsistent. If we get into post season, and need that 4th starter, I guess Pop, Logue or Dwyer would be prime candidates for that spot.

^ Don't mean to be too critical of a young player, but based on the results of his starts this far this season, it seems like Pop needs more experience and development. Seems like he has struggled in his appearances this far. Logue had a good start against a talented UofL club last week, so have to think he would get the nod as the fourth starter for the postseason, if UK is able to steady itself and make it to the postseason.
D1 baseballs RPI tonight had UK dropping all the way to #36.

Pitchers get babied.

If he didn't pitch in the next game he was probably tabbed for a bullpen on the same day or the next anyways. Our pitchers in college would make their start, exit the game and hit the weight room to lift almost and then distance run almost immediately.

Innings in a game are more stressful, but these guys are always throwing...
