USC offers Marvin Bagley's 7-year lil' bro..............................

If Cal did something like that, the entire civilized world would come unglued. USC does it and it's a brilliant PR move. :pimp:
Cal's moved beyond this type of thing, but he initially pried Xavier Henry away from Kansas in part by also offering a scholarship to Henry's older brother, who had been playing minor league baseball for 5 years and was looking to get out of the sport.

And remember all the stuff with LeBron's son.

I think this kind of thing is pretty harmless, especially when we're talking about a 7 year old kid.

It is what it is. It's what lower tier coaches have to try and do to compete with the big boys on the block. You see it all the time with a team hiring a recruit's "uncle/godfather/guardian" with limited coaching skills who otherwise would never get the job.

"Brilliant PR move," what is Zagoria smoking? It's sad and pathetic. It's as bald-faced as hiring a member of the recruit's family. You couldn't possibly know anything about a player at the age of seven. What's next, Enfield, you gonna get down on one knee and propose?

Sounds like Enfield is getting on his knees to do more than propose. That's desperation if I've ever seen it.

Enfield is a pretty good coach (remember FGCU's sweet 16 and Dunk City?) and has raised USC's profile and tourney aspirations over the last few years. That being said, this is a PR stunt that gets him headlines and visibility for recruiting. Cal would get flamed because he doesn't need to do it simple as that.

I'm sure it's not super serious. Or set it stone . The kid is like 7.

That being said , it may "wow" bagley and co.

We will see. I REALLY hope if he isn't ours then he goes to USC

The middle brother is no joke, that's definitely a legit offer. Kid's a 2020 recruit and is already like 6'7 and is highly skilled. Not the same hype of his brother obviously, but that's a young, big, talented kid. As you said, could be a difference maker in a super tight race because Duke and Kentucky etc aren't schools to do something like that.

Offering a player's older brother is different from offering a 7 year old kid. Apples and oranges.

Don't go and confuse people. He also did it at Memphis with Wagner and his best friend and dad.

Because the offer won't be carried through by that time unless he can play. It's just "PR".

Now, the hypocrisy is another thing all together. When G was doing this, if anyone remembers, Tubby Smith and others were moaning the entire time.

USC does it, nothing but brilliance.

Offering a 7 year old is a fun and games PR move. Legitimately offering a 13-14 year old is a little weird.

Joe B. sent me a scholarship offer in the 4th grade. I'm sure he did stuff like that with lots of kids. Made my year, and didn't hurt a soul.

Do you still have it?

An older brother who hadn't played organized basketball in 5 years. I thought it was smart as hell at the time, and I think this is a smart move by Enfield.

Unfortunately, no. Although I wouldn't be shocked if it's somewhere at my mom's house. He sent an autographed pic with it.

My dad had run into one of Joe B's fishing buddies and told him what a big fan I was. So I'm sure he did stuff like that all the time, but it was about as cool as you could get for a 9 year old kid.

How does Xavier Henry's brother, who played basketball and is a great athlete in general, have anything to do with offering a 7 year old? I'm all for calling a spade a spade, but that's a massive stretch.

And it doesnt matter anyway. I don't give a rats ass what Cal did at Memphis to compete, anymore than people care about K's history at Army or Bill Self's antics at Tulsa. For some reason Kentucky is labled with all of Cal's prior stops and I rarely hear it anywhere else.

Bagley submitted his reclassification paperwork today, so I'd say Kentucky is plainly out of that sweepstakes. Maybe Enfield's absurd PR stunt helped. Maybe Bagley was always going to USC.

If you are USC and you feel like you are in a battle with the type of talent like Bagley that can get you over the top and you are up against Kentucky and Duke, you do whatever else you can to bring this kid to your school. We might think it's silly, but we bring in these types every recruiting class. We don't sweat it when it's Kentucky vs Duke for a recruit. More power to them! I doubt they were for real with this. If USC lands Bagley, we could be talking about them being title favorites. I know most have Kentucky out of the race, but with Cal, I'll never count Kentucky out for any recruit.
