USA U19 exhibition

Reddish started at POINT GUARD.

Reddish played PG for his HS team.

Both Reddish and Langford have commented on how Cal has wanted to run them at the 1 at times.

Still, this is a big development in his recruiting. If he sees himself as a PG, and knows Cal will give him a shot at that spot, then that gives us a huge recruiting edge one would think.

He a kid that could actually log some serious minutes at PG with his game and ball handling. I can see us pulling Reddish in with Calipari seeming to prefer him as his SF for this class. If he does the Duke board will explode lol.

Anyone find a replay or at least some highlights and a box score? Can't get the one link to open to bigblueinsider.com

This was a practice/warmup game, I don't think there is any video, haven't seen video yet anyway. Once the real games start they'll all be on YouTube from what I've read.

People who say "positionless basketball" is a gimmick and catch phrase with no real application should pay attention to what Cal is doing at the U19 tryouts, exhibitions, and games, as well as what happens this season at UK.

Cal has said his dream team would be five 6'9-ish guys that can handle, shoot, and pass like guards, rebound and post up like big men, and can defend all five spots.

He signs Knox, Vanderbilt, and Washington- three 6'9-ish guys who handle the ball like guards. All of whom are projected to play the same positions (3/4), yet Cal signs all three.

Then our players comment that they are going to play like GS, probably the most "positionless" team in the NBA.

Now he has a 6'8 Reddish running the Point for the U19 team.

I don't think this is a recruiting ploy. I think Cal seriously wants a team of bigs that play like guards.

You migh say, who wouldn't want five LeBron's on the floor? True. But Cal is really the only coach that seems to be trying to make it a reality.

We are going to see Cal put Vanderbilt, Knox, and Washington on the floor at the same time. That's as close to his ideal lineup as he has been able to come since he has been here at UK.

He would love to get Reddish, Barrett (if he reclassifies), Williamson, Bagley, and Bol for next season. Five "forwards" that handle like guards and defend every position.

what ever you do..... don't daydream about this this being our recruiting class

Pg- Reddish
Sg- Langford or Barrett
Sf- Williamson
Pf- Bagley
C - Bol Bol

That would be insane wouldn't it?

Yeah. A little unrealistic, but how much you want to bet that Cal is having that daydream as well? LOL!

So at this point is Reddish considered better than Romeo?

I would say so. Romeo wired to strictly score. Doesn't affect the game too much in other areas yet.

Reddish 6-8 point forward with ability to rebound, defend multiple positions, great playmaker and passer, and underrated scoring ability.

So lets say Cal gets Reddish, would he still try and get Langford or Barrett or go for Zion, who is prob a 3-4 in college. It will be crazy when the domino's start to fall with these guys.

He would go for Langford and Barrett, and Williamson may be the odd man out, unless he wants to play some 4 at times. Langford and Barrett are better players though, I believe.

Yeah, I kinda think that too because I really hope Washington comes back because I think he will be an All American his sophomore year. I would assume Washington will play quite a bit of 4 in college. Not as hopeful on Zion and Bagley for this reason.

He would if he had no choice. He only moved Evans to PG because the other pg was doing so badly. Quade will be the pg next year and Quickley will back him up. If Reddish comes he will play SF. This is all part of recruiting like when Cal told Anthony Davis he will play Some SF and KAT that he will have plenty of chances to shoot threes lol

I bet my ass that Tyreke Evans would have started at PG, and not SF

Let's not put a label on it. Do you think Reddish will initiate possessions a number of times? Because I believe he will.

Quickly started so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he started at the pg, Diallo started at the sg and Reddish started at SF

Diallo and PJ led again today.. 15 and 13 each.. Reddish did start at pg and had 6 pts,, 6 boards and 6 assists..

All the guards will but it will be obvious who he pg is just like this past year, forgot to add monk as told he would play a lot of pg as well. This is all a well known r fruiting thing all coaches do which helps them get the kid. It's not technically a Lie because they will get to practice, run that position a couple times then Cal will say "you're best position is SG or SF or some other position"

Also anyone that has watched a bunch of games of Reddish (I have) knows he is not a pg. he's a good ball handler and in ththe Paul pierce mode but he is not a pg

That's the million dollar question. But knowing Cal, he probably goes after all of them. Reddish is so versatile that he could legitimately play 1-4. Romeo locked in as a 2, Barrett a 2/3, and Zion a 3/4, IMO.

Cal usually signs the best guys he can get and then worries about where they fit once they get on campus.

He isn't worried as much about positions as we are. Sure, he wants a Point, he wants scorers, he wants rebounders, etc. But bottom line, he wants the best players he can get.

Put it this way, if Reddish signs, he is not telling Barrett, Langford, or Williamson that he is not interested anymore.

Just like this year, he didn't tell Knox not to come after Vanderbilt and Washington sign. They were all considered SF/PF by the scouts, yet he went after all three because they all do things different things. Knox is the best scorer/shooter. Washington is the best rebounder. Vanderbilt is the best passer, etc.

Same with this recruiting cycle. He knows that they are all wings, but different types of wings. Langford is a shooter/scorer. Reddish is an all-around talent. Williamson is a rebounder and has the body to post up a little bit.

He just takes the best he can get. He is not turning away a top 5-10 player just because he has a player at his position. That is one reason why he preaches "positionless basketball."

Watching the U19 game it's clear that's a Quickley is the pg. Reddish is looking good as the SF though

after sleep walking for 7 minutes......... usa went on to win by 60 pts..... Diallo and Washington had some laughable foul trouble in the first half but put on a show in the second half.
