Update on Johnell Davis(new update-highest bidder will secure Davis)

This is the type of player Pope needs, 41% 3 point shooter, final four two years ago.

This is the kind of dude we need, but I have no clue where his head is. These guys can be difference makers on a contender or a selfish team cancer just chasing a bag.

Hope this guys not just a bag chaser and we can get in the race.

It is weird to care about academics anymore, but at the same time, you’d be doing a massive disservice to these players if he didn’t uphold reasonable academic standards.

And it’s not like they have to major in aerospace engineering or pre med. Unless they have a real passion for something I would steer every player towards sports marketing/journalism or a business degree. That way they can develop skills off the court that could help them land and maintain a steady, well paying career if anything should happen to their body or if they under perform and don’t make it or stick in the league. A business degree would come with a lot of classes that teach young folks how to manage their income and would be an incredible asset to any future professional athlete so they minimize their odds of growing broke.

But I guess valuing a free college education is old fashioned now. Some degrees are never worth it and I get that, but there are a lot of worthwhile degrees and classes that would be a huge benefit to these guys.

But I also understand these a lot of these guys don’t want to be seen as spelling bee contestants.
Even in the golden years (whenever they were) the majority of athletes weren't making progress toward STEM type fields, medical, or business administration and that most likely they simply were in times where smaller percentages of the population had a degree and any degree had much more value to employers.

Neither the value nor relative rarity of the parchment are the same.
The advantage while still present is diminished.

What earns more, thirty years teaching or three years at the rookie minimum?

Exactly.

He was the leading scorer on a final four team, so he’s probably a team player. That may have changed but I would take my chances.

I tend to agree, just rumors that he's going to the highest bidder. Makes you wonder if winning is important.

Just saying all that because none of us know. So if he's a high character guy, I hope we get him. Absolute stud.

Well supposedly it's now down to UK and Houston. Let's hope we have a bigger bag

This would really help all the way around! Possibly allowing other big names to feel like its less of a risk to come aboard

For those crossing their arms & shaking their heads at this or any player now openly trying to maximize their income.....have you forgotten what UK & Cal did to get Anthony Davis?

at this point with the masks of college sports amateurism thrown off, is anyone still innocent and pure to think we didn't pay him $180k?

Daniel Poneman or whatever his name is was once a 13/14 year old on the recruiting scene and now he reps a TON of these transfers in the portal.

I don’t think you read my post. I said, very specifically, that I wasn’t saying they need to get aerospace engineering degree or go pre med. I’m simply advocating that they get an education in some business classes OR sports marketing/journalism while they’re in school. These classes and degrees aren’t hard.

Unless you’re suggesting they’re incapable?
