I just don't understand why Jeff Brohm would want to put his career on the line and pursue that job. The stability he has at Purdue and being in the Big 10 far over shadow what UofL can offer in the ACC. He has established himself as a good coach at Purdue and will continue to be viable in the Western division of the Big 10. If He doesn't excell at UofL from the start they be bitching almost immediately. They've been wanting to get rid of Satterfield ever since he got there, I don't blame him one little bit taking the Cinncy job. IMO that's a better job and they'll be in the Big 12, which as a whole is better than the ACC.

I can think of alot of reasons for him to go to UL (not that staying at Purdue is a bad choice):

- His alma mater and hometown, history there
- Competing for conference championships would be easier in the ACC, you have Clemson and everyone else
- Big 10 (yes, there are 14 teams) is going to get tougher with Rhule in the division
- UL has already established they are getting NIL money for top players
- If UL really wants him, they will have to open the checkbook, and he would get a crazy pay raise.

I don't know how tied he is to Purdue, but I could see the reasoning going to UL. I wouldn't, I can't stand UL, but he probably likes it.

The Louisville media will be even more insufferable than usual. Since brohm has been at purdue, they have covered them as if they are a local team even though the only fans are brohms family.

That's sort of their "thing." They treat the Ravens the same way just because of Lamar. Locally we get every Ravens game now and their radio station covers all their games. They talk them up as if they've been Baltimore fans for decades. I do get the Brohm love since there's so many connections to the university, but many of them are just spellbound by the guy, as if he's the only one who can save them. Would be hilarious if Brohm only managed to win 6-7 games a year like Satt.

Posted this in another thread...

Regarding Jeff Brohm - when is the last time a college team fired a guy, threw him under the bus, and then hired him back at a higher position? For those who don't remember, Jeff Brohm was fired as OC by UL during the Kragthorpe years.

In retrospect, they obviously fired the wrong guy and Jurich and most of his cronies are gone, but how do you come back from that? Further, if you're Brohm, do you want to go in there knowing they already disrespected you and your family once already?

Brohm is making $6.6M/ year at Purdue. So UL will have to step up with their checkbook.
Listened to the UL AD press conference today and he was asked about how their financial woes would effect the new hire. He said that they weren't in a position to outbid anyone and specifically mentioned not being able to pay someone $8, $9, $10M a year but they would be able to get their guy. Then went on to talk about how great the job was and it was more than just money.

WIth Brohm, aside for the beta move of tucking tail and going back to the University that falcon punched your mangina under Kragthorpe, it appears he is going to have to accept less money than what Purdue will ultimately counter with. Purdue isn't in dire straights financially, like UL, plus they have B10 money - which is about double what UL will be operating on in the near future.

In the near future, SEC/B10 will be on another plane when it comes to resources. That is something I would consider if I were a current coach in one of those league thinking of stepping down to a ACC/B12/PAC job.

The Big Ten divisions are going away. Feasting on a weak division isn’t a reason to stay. That said, an important thing to me would be coaching at a school already in the Big Ten or SEC. UofL will probably never be

This is the correct view.

You ain't leaving even a school like Vandy to take a better job like Oklahoma St, Virginia Tech, etc... If you are in SEC or Big10....you stay there till your fired. The notion Brohm leaves Purdue (who just played in Big 10 title game) for UL is nutty. UL will not be able to pay him more....and going forward when Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC get to SEC or Big 10....UL will be far down the pecking order and left out like remnants of Pac 12 and Big 12.

I'd not imagine Brohm worrying with little brother. If anything, he's eying a better job than Purdue and UL at this point

We agree that he shouldn’t but I wouldn’t be surprised if he does. There’s not really any attractive openings that aren’t filled yet that he could chase are there?

Just so I understand. Brohm can't come back to Louisville with a promotion to head coach after being fired from a coordinator 10 years ago. A bridge too far. But we're all cool with Eddie Gran being fired and then working as unpaid running back coach in preparation for the Music City Bowl?

I get the home appeal...but I feel like if you are doing okay at Purdue, you're trying to do well enough to get a Marquee job. Uofl is the job you take after/if you fail at a Whale...then finish out your career.

Which is the downside to all of this, you fail at louisville where do you go? Back to a Purdue level school?

Perhaps he probably takes it...I'd just love to see louisville dumpster diving in the sunbelt

Just staying at Purdue would be better than UL....there will always be openings every year in today's world.
But if you bounce to UL...then it's like you need to stick 3 years or more if you bounce now.

It's barely even a lateral move at best. If Brohm isn't their guy, who does Louisville go after in all seriousness. They will either need to go the OC/DC route and hope they get one from a power program, or do they reach out to somebody like Gus Malzhan? Who else would be a realistic hire for them in their budget range.

Stating the obvious but this AD is new and has to knock this hire out of the park with the Payne hiring looking like a big mistake. I think he was still interim AD when Kenny was hired but he made it sound like it was his choice as much as anybody's. I personally don't think Brohm is the answer other than he will initially get the fan base excited but KP was supposed to do that too. To quote John L. Smith, UofL doesn't understand where they are on the food chain and they are thinking they should be right there with Clemson in the ACC but a tougher schedule and lack of recruiting territory make that job tougher than it was 10 years ago.
I don't think Satterfield was a really good coach but I think realistically 6-7 wins a year with an 8-10 win year every four to five seasons is about where that program should be and he was meeting those expectations.

Jeff is coming to Louisville will get 7 million he won’t pass job up again. His family is there he is a Louisville legend
Purdue could offer 9 but don’t think they will

They sure know how to treat legends there. They threw that whole family under the bus. 7 million may be a big enough apology but like KTime said no one stays there. 3 years- you win enough people leave or you dont elevate the program to 11 wins you get fired. Not sure that is looked upon as an optimal situation. I would say their AD is on thin ice due to the basketball issues. Still lots of unrest and lack of leadership over there. Jurich left a crater over there they may never get out of.

Well U6 fans told us Satt was awesome when he was hired. KP was awesome when he was hired. Mack was awesome when he was hired. I’m guessing they have no sports IQ at all.

By marriage, I'm connected to the Brohm family and I will leave it at that.

Anyway, I was told a year ago, he wouldn't pass it up again. Last go around, he hadn't be at Purdue much and UofL was in shambles. He didn't feel like it was the right time.

Has time changed things? I would think so, if financially things are anywhere similar to Purdue at UofL. I would love to see him stay at Purdue just to see the Louisville meltdown. And after him, the realistic list of candidates is not great. However, I figure he's coach there in the very near future.

Brohm is about to get paid, REALLY PAID $$$. Whether it's Louisville or Purdue remains to be seen, but he can pull a Lane Kiffin and use this leverage, like Lane did with Ole Miss a couple weeks ago over the Auburn opening.

Brohm is a decent coach but there is a reason why the top programs like Auburn don’t even ask him. He defaulted into the Big 10 conference championship… somehow Iowa beat Purdue 24-3 this season. He might do ok at Louisville but unless something they’re going to just be a middle of the road ACC team and stuck in a dying conference.

Well he’s making 6.6 mil at Purdue. Louisville’s AD has already said they can’t and won’t pay 8,9 or 10 mil a year. So if getting paid at UL is taking 6-7 mil then I guess he’s going to get paid. But not much more than he already is at Purdue. Now, Purdue could bump him to 8mil, but not sure they will either.
