UNC Wilmington v. Kentucky (Game 1)

Well, that was just one game, but it isn't a great sign. We continue to struggle hitting against quality pitching. We continue to play relatively poor defense and make mental errors. We continue to make a lot of mistake pitches that get hit hard. We continue to lose.

If we are looking ahead... this looks like a series we may now lose. Sundays have been very rough for us pitching wise, so if that continues then we may very well drop this series. Kentucky is now 1-4 against the RPI top 150.

I'm here and never said its all rainbows and unicorns although both of those are wonderful. This board would whine that the horn wasn't long enough and not enough color in the rainbow! I just have no interest in trashing things I profess to like; i.e. UK sports. Go for it if you need to I just don't want to be miserable over things I like.

I thought after his first year, we may have got a gem but now I don’t know.

Yea, the magic of that year is fast running out. We have had some injuries but not sure they can excuse it at this point.

Injuries and missing out on players that ended up signing after the draft has been an issue. Especially pitching. But, it’s still baffling to me the amount of mental mistakes defensively, the lack of identity as on offense and the lack of leadership this team has. SEC play starts in two weeks. That’s a scary thought.

Not miserable...willing to face reality. You can't fix a problem if you're not willing to admit it exists...and Houston...we've got a problem!

I bet he’s the fan who thought Joker needed more time or Billy Clyde just needed another season to beat VMI.

I said Joker is only one piece of the puzzle and I was right. For the record the football team still hasn't won the SEC either so I guess y'all think firing Stoops would fix that. Building a program in the SEC from the basement is the hardest thing to do imo. So hard that there are no comparable examples to point to. Instead fans say there is enough talent here, we just need the right coach, all we need to do is coach them up ... etc and when you post the fact we have never won the SEC "ok tied for regular season once" to suggest the plan must be more far reaching than replacing a coach, people post a bunch of opinions as to why it's not right. Then they attack you because you don't jump on the misery train.

Look Minge may not be the guy but making up your mind less than 10 games in and being completely negative on all things KY baseball doesn't add up for me.

Not making minds up 10 games in, but how about 3 seasons plus 10 games in?

I’m not looking to win the SEC but would like to sniff the postseason. Heck I would like to just watch fundamentally sound baseball. And I’ve always supported Minge on this board. But watching him play infielders in the outfield and catchers at third and first base, is head scratching to me. It’s no wonder we’ve only turned two DPs. We’re fortunate to make a routine play to get one out. I’m not sure who the official scorer is but we’ve had several errors that he has scored as hits, so our fielding percentage should actually be worse than it is. Third strike looking doesn’t seem to be an alarm to this staff because it has continued. Most players learned in little league to swing if it’s close when batting with two strikes.

We were not at the bottom 4 years ago, but now we are firmly entrenched there!

It’s not deciding that Minge should be fired after 10 games in one season. It’s been a steady decline since 2017 that is the problem. The argument could be made that Kentucky got screwed out of a tournament berth in 2018 but a 13-17 conference record will keep you out of the playoffs. Its watching a team struggle to do the easy things right. It’s watching players continually play out of position.

I don’t expect UK to win the conference every year. The SEC is way too good for that. My expectations are to at least be competitive and have a chance. There’s no reason why that shouldn’t happen.

They lost in first game of SEC as well, so 13-18, plus I think we lost our last 5 in a row
