Kind of amazed at how little talk this game has gotten the offseason or even this week leading up to the Thurs 6 pm kickoff.

North Carolina is a very high scoring spread team, the kind of early season matchup that was horrific for Superior last year with Tejas A&M. Plus they added former national championship head coach Chizik to fix their awful defense. Superior is trying to act like he's gonna coach until he's 80 and the retirement talk is not true....but again, the lack of interest in this game & in his team to me shows that most expect that he is at the end of his career.

Since they are our important opponent #2 gonna watch this close. Want to see how USCjr's new QB looks, see if they have any threatening skill players outside of Pharoh Cooper, if their defense is in any way improved.

I hope they win an ugly low scoring game
Would not surprise me to see UNC win by 10-17 points. Their offense was solid last year and USC's D was bad last year, as was UNC's D. It'll be an interesting game for sure.

I do not like that USC will get a few extra days to prepare for us.

In this game, as in all others USCjr plays in, I hope the Humane Society has to break up the slaughter. UNC cannot win by enough for me to be satisfied. The only team I'd actually pull for USCjr beating would be the Irish and even then it would be tough. ISIS vs USCjr? Go ISIS! I hate 'em. You may have gathered that.

Btw, WKU is favored over Vandy in another Thursday night game.

Vandy winning that game would be the much bigger surprise. I do not think it will be a Temple like ass kicking circa last year, but give me WKU to win.

Living here in Columbia, SC this will make my Thursday much more interesting than I had figured. Co-workers are kind of split about 60/40 USC/Clemson. With a few of us oddballs voting in the "other" category. However, I find it impossible to cheer for UNC for any reason. But, if they do win, I won't be as pissed as usual.

Finebaum just said there are still 25,000 tickets to sell for this game? Gezus. get what I'm saying about how noone cares about this game? especially USCjr fans who deep down know they are once again at the end of the line for the great but old coach they hired (See: Holtz 2004).

Not altogether surprising. Non-primetime weeknight game hours away from either campus with overpriced tickets.

You get these results sometimes when ESPN controls everything.
Actually shapes up as a fun game, border rivals and all that. Weeknight must have killed it. Columbia is actually closer to Charlotte (about 90 miles) than is Chapel Hill (about 140 miles).

Peace

Rumor is they sent back a lot of tickets to our game with them in Athens this year too. Hard to believe that because even in their darkest hour of a 21 game losing streak they filled their stadium and sold all their tickets to away games. That taste of success SOS gave them and then last season happens must have really depressed them if this is really true. UNC and USC are big rivals, not just in sports by everything, even for the name Carolina.

I hope that USC doesn't look good.

We play em next and I want that win very badly.

Obviously if they look good against UNC then it doesn't bode as well for us going down there and getting a win.

Using reverse psychology/anti-jinx theory I also hope USCjr wins, the idea of them losing makes the likelihood of a UK victory in week 2 much more unlikely. But they need to win ugly, if they go over by 4 td's then the team confidence skyrockets & fan enthusiasm kicks up several notches.

That's the way I would see it too. If they get a big win and look great against UNC then both their team and fans will be riding high when we go to their place next week. Rather see them win a close and very ugly game, as you say.

Why do they call South Carolina, USC Junior? South Carolina plays in the SEC, where college "varsity" teams play.

sigh

the initials 'USC' is universally recognized and acknowledge as University of Southern California

some of us call South Carolina USCjr since they are lesser than USC in every measure possible

I'm not really sure who wins this game. I'd prefer SC win the game, as they will be even more focused going into the UK game off a loss IMO. Coming off a loss, plus last year's choke job against UK, would definitely have them circling the game even more than usual. Of course the counter-argument is they lose game 1, they come in demoralized and even more ripe for the picking.

Like some have said, I want SC to win ugly. Will not pull for an ACC team to beat an SEC team just because I don't want to hear Little bro fans chirping about how tough the ACC is. Want to prove that last year was a fluke.

Inc does have the benefit of their players not having to go to class. Think of the extra preparation that can be done compared to other schools.

1. I think that ended a few years back.
2. It sure as hell has not helped UNC Football much, even when that was going on based on their record season by season.

I think South Carolina wins. Fedora has been somewhat disappointing at UNC. Plus, the ol' ball coach usually has his team ready for the first game of the season. As to the name, I call South Carolina USC. I also call Southern California USC. I also call both Ohio State and Oklahoma State, OSU; I call Michigan State and Mississippi, MSU; Texas and Tennessee, UT; Wisconsin and Washington, UW. It just seems petty to call one team "jr." or something along those lines.

South Carolina will be lucky to finish the season at 6-6 ( again) and that will in all likelihood mean they will be looking for a new head coach for next year. 3 consecutive 6-6 regular seasons after 3 consecutive 11 win seasons will be the end of Spurrier..finally
