UNC Pre-Game Presser (Bruiser)

It’s nice to have a post game but shooting and being able to beat your man off the dribble are much more important. Villanova in 18 and Virginia 2019 doesn’t have consistent post threats, spellman could get a basket every now and then but he wasn’t a dominate post player. Baylor didn’t have a dominant post threat, they had 3 guards on the perimeter who were interchangeable and could completely dominate games. UConn last year had a post threat among many other things. I get your point though, but if this team is going to do anything it will because of the guards
One could make the argument our greatest team ever didn’t necessarily have a real, true post presence either. In 1996, Walker was about the best post player we had. McCarty could also post, however, neither were traditional posts. Pope wasn’t really either.

Bruiser is a generational bag thief. I respect the shit out of it. My philosophy with work has long been, “get as much as you can out of your employer while doing less than the bare minimum to remain employed, but use charisma and CYA tricks to stay under the radar”. Has served me well thus far, but my networking skills are inferior to ole Bruise, so it’ll never be near as lucrative as the scam he’s running.

One thing everyone can agree on is the defense has to get better for this team to be a real threat. Hopefully we can accomplish that without losing our offensive punch.
To quote Al Davis, “Just WIN baby!”
Wins matter more than entertainment.

And winning means Scoring More THAN YOUR OPPONENT. So it’s a BALANCE between offense and defense. Virginia has tried the all-defense for a few years. Loyola Marymount tried the all-offense back in early 90’s.

So as long as our defense (and rebounding) IMPROVE MORE than our offense takes a step back, then I’m ok with it.
Play to your strengths. Even with big guys I think a strength of ours is getting up and down quickly. Strike fast. But when it’s not there, then work for a GOOD shot.

Players First. Calipari said it Day One. Their interests, Not the interest of fans, boosters, media, or school. Their health. Their future. Their value as professional players.

But 12 years of moaning. Like Jeremy Piven in Grosse Pointe Blank. 12 years! 12 ,,, years! Life is really short and there's no reboots. Do something else.

Your take reminds me of Bob Knight’s ridiculous statement about how, if rape is inevitable, “just relax and enjoy it”.

You’re basically saying that if we don’t like the fact that our program and traditions have been hijacked by a man for whom winning is not a priority, then we should just accept it and move on to something else. That’s a load of pacifist BS.

This is both hilarious and sad. Hilarious because you’re right about Bruiser, sad because you aren’t joking about yourself.

Basically I can’t believe moaning for 12 years. Knight’s comment was glib misogyny. Mine was amazement over masochism. Heavens. 12 years of misery over a game.

Virginia 2019 had Diakite. Dude saved their season against Purdue that year. He was a long, lanky, athletic big kind of like our bigs. Key is not to play through our bigs, play through our guards like you said. But, have the bigs available when needed for offense but mainly focus on rebounds/rim protection.
Agree my point was more that neither of the 2018 nova or 2019 Virginia had back to the basket bigs who you post up for scoring

I bet you haven’t achieved a tenth of what I have in life because you’re too busy licking up and down your employer’s shaft. I’ve spent my entire career getting promotions over people like you.

There will be games when a solid halfcourt offense in critical, and you don't have a halfcourt offense with a big or two that can be a force around the rim.

But, like you said, you also can't force-feed the post every possession.

I'm holding off to see what this actually looks like when the final product is in place.
When will that be? NCAA tournament? For most of us, we've already seen what it's going to look like.

You sure are a vile human. Nary a response to anyone without a healthy dose of vitriol and inappropriate comments.

For the record, I’m smart enough to work for myself. But keep patting yourself on the back little buddy.

There's a whole bunch of your doppelgangers where I work. When there's work to be done, might as well bring in Search & Rescue along with K9 units to find these Fvcxs. Turn the lights out? They're out and about socializing, like cockroaches.

I just figured he had dirt on Cal. I can't think of any other reason...lol

Someone has to watch the doggos.

I get with Bradshaw and ugo you can’t play as fast, but just being honest this team is better playing fast and small. Bradshaw can help defensively but the small ball offensive lineups made this team a tough matchup for anybody
But having a lack of defense means the small team will go nowhere. They will blow out some teams but loose to many others. Must have good defense.

They are dumb. 75% of work is showing up on time and being where you’re supposed to be when you’re supposed to be there. If you get that part covered, nobody usually cares about what you’re actually producing. That being said, I’m laying in my bed right now at home but I’m still on the clock. Definitely a perk of having a boss that works 4 states away.

That’s good, and I think I can admit I had you wrong and maybe was unnecessarily reactionary when you first came at me. I’m sure like me, you’re glad we’re living in an economy where independent business startups are cropping up everywhere and thriving. The immediate returns I’m seeing from Bidenomics have been a boon for my little family and pretty much everyone in my circle. Beautiful to see everyone working and getting new opportunities. Yes, everything is more expensive (thanks to Donald’s socialist program for billionaires, his botched handling of Covid, and corporate greed), but we’ve been able to increase our savings/investing allotment by almost 50% this year. If we can keep the positive momentum going in this country, the middle class revival will be incredible.

Best of luck to you in your endeavors buddy!! Your enterprising attitude is an inspiration and you’ve achieved a goal I aspire towards.

Yeah but this team is never going to be great defensively. Bradshaw can help some but they just aren’t going to be a great defensive team. They need to score points which is what they are built to do

Gotta have balance. When Cal kissed Bradshaw, I was thinking “Goodness, he think he’s Anthony Davis”. But that team was the exact balance you want to strike. Defense, lethal in transition, solid perimeter shooting. This team has more on the perimeter but lacks an MKG. If we can get Edwards to be 80% of the transition threat Kidd-Gilly was…good luck everybody else. At present, he’s maybe at 25%.

Not much to it, really. I had a job (apparently like yours) where I enjoyed a great degree of autonomy, which afforded me the time to start an internet side hustle. I was successful but not content. Let’s face it, a six-figure wage slave is still a wage slave. I parlayed the side gig into a new career. Didn’t even require much capital. You can do it… just about anyone can. Greatest country in the world. Hope it stays that way forever.

How have you already seen this years team final product? We are just now getting to see a completed roster. It may take some time for the coaching staff to figure out the best combo of players. I think adding size will certainly help, that was evident against Kansas. It's a balancing act for sure, needing to keep the run and gun while adding size, but I think we'll have it pretty well figured out by mid-January.

Ngl, it also helps that my wife makes more money than I do. We’re a freakin powerhouse at the moment. Just socking away as much as I can while the gettin is good in case everything implodes, and we can cut bait and run if we become the Christian Kingdom that Mike Johnson envisions. We would definitely be among the first wave sent to the reeducation camps lol.

You think Z is going to play? I don't, and most here don't, either. We also know that Cal loves his plowhorse offense, forcing the ball into a big on every possession. And neither of the bigs who have played or will be playing are really capable of doing anything with the ball once they've got it. Watch the floor-level video someone else posted if you haven't already. It's clear as day what we're looking at. Cal is going to go down in flames trying to showcase Bradshaw, and this offense is going to be destroyed. It's already suffering. This is the "final product". It's just a matter of seeing how it stacks up against the competition.

Jury's out on Big Z, but I have my doubts like you. I'm simply saying seeing one full game with Bradshaw turned out pretty decent, didn't look like going down in flames to me. And we haven't seen Ugo yet with this team on the floor. This is far from a final product. I know 2015 was a long time ago, but we've played two bigs on the floor with success. Playing small ball with no real interior presence isn't going to win consistently. Big men can't be the focus in today's game but they are still part of the equation. We can easily still play four out with Tre in the corner and a big in the post. The most important thing to me is that we have a three guard lineup around the bigs. You can have your prediction all you want, but none of us have seen the final product yet.

Bradshaw is going to help no doubt. This team for sure lacks a MKG type and all our guards seem to be good at deflecting passes and getting steals but aren’t great at staying in front of their man on defense. Thats why I’m hesitant to say they can rely on defense to win and are leaning towards the offense having to be on most nights

Sounds like you're a govt. employee...my older brother is a long-time clocksucker. Has @ 40 yrs. in and no inclination to retire. Says he can get his p.m. nap in at work same as home.

Not currently, but that is definitely how I learned to play the game.

Until Edwards comes around, I really do think Thiero is actually a pretty good comp to MKG. Neither one of them could shoot. Both rebound very well. MKG better in transition and on defense… but not by a huge margin. The constant motor was what made MKG so special, and Thiero has that same energy.
