And evidently the Tiger fans are a little salty over it, to say the least.

The Memphis president sent out this tweet, and most of the responding tweets are not so kind, lol. What a bunch of jealous-whiny-jilted-sounding fans. Why do you never hear of their hatred or blame for D Rose?

Just to,put into perspective. Did we bring pitino to a game and honor him when he went into the HOF........no we did not

I respect what pitino did and that era of UK basketball was special, but at the end of the day, cyou don't bring him into Rupp and parade him around........

i don't think Cal will go to a Memphis game this season to be honored for his HOF , Memphis is on a backslide, the lost their best player to transfer, the number one recruit in the country is from Memphis and he is a UK wildcat. Combine that with Calipari and the CATS will be a top team this fall when this is supposed to take place. I just don't see Cal subjecting himself to arena full of boos.

^^Yea but cal didn't end up at a Memphis rival, he took the best job In the sport.

Memphis fans are completely delusional. They actually believe their program is one of the more relevant. They have no clue how the rest of the sport sees them, which isn't much. They should honor cal, because he's the greatest thing they will personally ever see.

However I agree, no way cal should do it. It's Memphis, it's not like it's a premeire program. Why would cal care?

Cal will show if he can work it out. I'd bet on it.

Lol meet the fan base. He'd be nuts to show up for unwarranted boos. He did more for that crap town than anyone, and they still aren't man enough to handle him moving on. I would laugh at the invite as its only an attempt to try and spark a dying program. Screw them.

LOOK JOHN CALIPARI AND MEMPHIS!!!
EVERYONE LOOK!

Most all UK fans were happy for Pitino and rooted for him with the Celtics. Calipari left Memphis FOR A BETTER JOB.

I know you would, and I would but Cal seems to be the type to show up out of respect and to also be an example to his players of meeting controversy head on. jmo

I & you, everyone else know that there will be a lot of boos, because this is Memphis.

Not even remotely comparable to the venom from the rednecks if UK did something similar for Rick or Tubby.

First of all, when Tubby Smith comes back to have his ceremony and jersey retired, he will get one of the loudest standing ovations you've ever heard in that arena. That's how dead wrong you are.

When Pitino comes back one day after retirement, which he will, he will a decent ovation. I would bet my life on that. Most UK fans I know and meet in person don't hate Rick like some of the more die hard and younger types on this board.Time heals lots of wounds also. He will be cheered and probably should be.

And what the hell does a redneck have to do with anything?

Don't know man, sounds like some sort of agenda.

It's a stunt. Memphis is awful right now and its getting worse. They want to bring back some mojo by using Cal as some sort of "who we are" moment. Memphis is a dying program, literally. Just being around the city nowadays you find less and less UM diehards. Really, not many people care. The recruiting is going in the trash, and they aren't getting into a new conference. They're finished.

Let them die, slow and hilariously, for all of us who've had to endure their shit for years. I know most of you couldn't care less about Memphis, but I get great joy out of their demise.

Please Cal, don't out your success next to a dying image.

If you feel that strongly about it I guess you have your reasons, I'm wit ya. I stand corrected.

It's just more than a bit ironic to me. Some of the fans complaining are probably some of the very same ones that lined up outside Cal's driveway with signs, begging him not to leave Memphis for UK.

Mainly though, it amuses me that they are using the "cheating" card against him. Really? They of all people should know how the whole D. Rose situation went down, and that the NCAA twice cleared him to play. And even if Cal knew that the test score was flagged, at worst it may have been a poor decision to continue to play him. But "cheating"?

I can understand anger when it happened. It's never easy being dumped. But it's been 6 years. Get over it, already.

They're fos. This is the same fan base that thinks Cal threw the Missouri/Memphis E8 game in 2009 because he "wanted the season over with so he could go on and leave."

Their only gripe they are entitles to imo would be the recruits. But that was for ONE season, lol. And we didn't even end up with Henry or the dud juco, and Dodson ended up being the worst recruit he's brought in. I'd say given what Cal did for memphis, it shouldn't matter BUT hey!....

Thats the name of the game bitches.

Memphis fans have zero in the sac. No wonder Louisville owns them like a punk.

I know a long time ago Memphis was good. But Memphis fans need to realize their greatest sustained success was under Cal and it will never be like that again. Kentucky is not a rival of Memphis so leaving Memphis to go to the greatest college basketball program was the only move you could make. Take a look at the 6 years right before and right after Cal was there ...

Memphis The 6 Years Before Calipari
107-76
2 NCAA Tournaments
1 Sweet 16
2 NITs
2 years without postseason

Memphis With Calipari
252-69 (including 137-14 the last 4 years)
6 NCAA Tournament
1 NCAA Runner-up
2 Elite 8’s
1 Sweet 16
3 NIT’s (1 Championship, 2 Final Fours)

Memphis The 6 Years After Calipari
149-58
4 NCAA Tournaments (2-4 record)
1 NIT
1 year without postseason

And don't forget, the 6 years after Cal are misleading. The league was complete garbage, and those "2" tourney wins are BS as well. They tout St. Mary like she's a bulldog. Memphis in a power conference would have been dismantled through the last 6 years.

it doesnt matter anyway. The Lawsons aren't the answer, and they're at the end of the road after that. City talent is looking elsewhere, and they're having trouble recruiting over mid majors now.

The ONLY reason UK hasn't honored Pitino in any way is because he coaches at UL.

If he was coaching Ohio State, Minnesota, Texas Tech, etc... he'd have already been welcomed back. True story. As a matter of fact, I guarantee you he will be honored in some fashion once he retires or is no longer coaching UL.

True. In fairness to WALL2 I see where he was coming from. It's just a different situation all together.

Just for kicks these are the kinds of post Memphis fans are posting about the situation. I found this after my last post. Just proves the point.

"An embarrassing scene is fine with me. And for you who are "fine" with Calipari leaving, that's not what everyone got upset about. The way he left…probation…stolen recruits…quite possibly an orchestrated loss in the NCAAs (that job wouldn't have been available the next weekend)..the weekend to see his daughter BS...the big "please stay coach" scene he created…that's why we're pissed."

"Wow... this will go over w/most fans in attendance at the Tulane game like a lead balloon. Not a very smart move at ALL by Rudd.

Yes, a few fans... a very few... that have "forgiven and forgotten", will applaud for Cal. The remaining 90% in attendance will boo until their lungs bleed and make the whole presentation a very awkward spectacle. I'm with the remaining 90%, and always will be when it comes to my feelings on Cal.

The boos that afternoon will be deafening...

If Rudd has any sense at all, he'll re-think this and will move the honoring/presentation to a private venue. It's not going to be pretty when this takes place at FedEx Forum."

"It is about this simple.

It is easier for the simpletons however to use the silly "he was not obligated to stay forever therefor you guys are upset due to ignorance"....since the annoyance had little to do with taking one of the elite positions and more to do with...

Probation.
Disparagement.
Accepting Memphis commits at a new job.
Actively recruiting Memphis commits and signees to a new job."

Appreciation for what??? Getting us put on probation? Eliminating our record setting win streak? Taking our recruits with him that he originally recruited at Memphis expense? Making us look like a thug program? Stealing the ice cone machine? Taking the secretary with him? Etc, Etc, Etc. For some of you he could have been the guy that told his followers to drink the grape Kool Aid and they never questioned him only to die after drinking it."

lol, and one guy even blamed him for "intentionally throwing away HIS winning streak". lol. I also love the "thug" program and how now that's a Cal problem. The Thug problem is a memphis everything problem. They're complete idiots.

That's why Cal won't do it.

Wcc I agree. But at the end of the day almost 20 years later did we do anything for pitino to celebrate is HOF nomination. No we didn't there are many factors why we didn't. Memphis is in the gutter right now. I think it's hilarious if this happens. Cal would be like an ex that left for a better looking rich and successful person and come

i fully agree Jason. I also think if Cal was retired or at another school down the line Memphis fans wouldn't be throwing a fit. Cal and Kentucky are top dog right now and we have their precious Skal number one recruit. When Memphis honors Cal in December we will be highly ranked and Memphis probably .500. I think it's hilarious!

Update, seems like this is going to be a dinner ceremony for invited guests they say. I'm sure They realized it wasn't a good idea to bring Cal out at halftime of a game. Maybe Cal suggested it.

If Pitino was ANYWHERE other than Louisville- and that includes Duke or North Carolina- he would have been honored by UK. There is no other situation like this. Even Saban- Bama/LSU isn't comparable.

Chad who are you arguing with? I agree my man. I was pointing out we didn't do anything for him. I pointed out my my post there were reasons why.......

Yea I was told this is for all of his former people that he's still in good with. He couldn't care less about the fans around memphis.

Apparantly, like I said, Memphis wants to do this as a tool. They wanted to pin a HOF coach down at their complex. They need some god pub.

Good thing their fans are too skull numb to understand it.

Still, I would love to know their reasoning on how Cal "got them on probation". Are they seriously blindly following the line that DR's high school testing was Cal's doing?

Says a lot about their fanbase.
Yep ......local writer put a bunch of garbage n the paper and stirred the masses. I see,why Cal said, the only time he touched the newspaper in Memphis was when he backed over it in the driveway........

And there ya have it. A bunch of idiots.

Good thing their athletics are dying. They think they are some sort of football school now with 1 DECENT season, and a young coach who's leaving soon. Memphis football is 10 times the joke UK football ever was.

I'm going to enjoy seeing their MEAC programs die.
