After helping lead Kentucky to an impressive series win over No. 3 Texas Tech, Troy Squires was named SEC Player of the Week on Monday by the league office.

Squires batted .571 with five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI during the week. He set a career high for hits (4) and RBI (4) in a win over Eastern Kentucky, then matched those numbers in Saturday's win over Texas Tech.

He was also strong in the field, throwing out a Red Raiders runner attempting to steal third in a tie game before UK won Friday's opener 10-7.

The Elizabethtown, Ky., native is batting .373 with 10 extra-base hits and 22 RBI on the season. He was also recently inducted into UK’s prestigious Frank A. Ham Society of Character for student-athletes.

It's the second weekly league honor for the Cats this season. Sean Hjelle was previously named SEC Pitcher of the Week.

Am I just going crazy...? We have two SEC POTW winners in Heyer and now Squires. I looked up the previous weeks and didn't see Hjelle as pitcher of the week. I see Rolinson for Ole Miss in week 1. Adam Hill for USC in week 2 and Bryce Montes De Oca of Missouri in week 3. So... am I crazy?
