I apologize I knew that didn't realize I said per day. It's per hour.Originally posted by twentycat:
Actually UNC is spending almost $1000 per hour for a single law firm. You can bet they have multiple legal and PR firms[/URL] charging well into the thousands per hour when combined.
UK offset some costs by providing flights, lodging and tickets for 57 UK boosters who donated $6,000 apiece, contributing a total of $347,047.30. UK also received $17,962.28 in ticket revenue. Even with those adjustments, the final expenses were $431,836.10.
My title for this thread, rather than the slightly untruthful "sensationalized" title would be.Peevy said the final expenses minus revenue of $431,836.10 actually came in just under the available budget of $433,000. He said UK was able to spend rather freely for this trip partly because its last exhibition tour, a 2010 trip to Canada, cost just $50,853.84. Also, the Wildcats have 21 home games this year, up from the usual 20, and one game typically brings in about $700,000.
You obviously either cannot read or are bad with math.Originally posted by C1180:
This make me wonder why that the UK athletic Department is so tight with it money for the football team if it can blow so much money{ better than three quarters of a million} for trips like this and {400 Gs} for Big Blue Madness for the basketball team.
I do understand that Kentucky Basketball is the one with the name at UK but the truth is the football program is the one financing UKs sports programs. I don't want to hear that UK football will get its due when it shows it deserves it. It is never going to get to that stage unless it is treated similar to basketball. That is the way that the top football programs in the SEC are ran and treated.
UKs cash cow has been feeble for many years It needs to be rejuvenated with a few outrageous type thing like what we see constantly with the basketball program. I do not begrudge the basketball program getting the perks but feel that the Football program should get them also.

Did you go to Commonwealth this year? All that stuff wasn't decoration.Originally posted by C1180:

We stayed in a $2500 a night suite at Disney World last year. My father-in-law paid the bill. The room was almost as big as our modest ranch style house, it had 2 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bath, small kitchen with a stocked Keurig, a huge living room, plus a dining room. Definitely the nicest place I'll ever stay. We're going back in March, he said we're getting a different room, but hopefully he'll surprise us.Originally posted by wildcatsboston1984:
It's not cheap to pay for everything for pro teams...
I can't even begin to imagine what a $1,550 per night hotel suite is like. I once went on a trip with a team and got a $150 hotel room (peak season rate was double that) in a place that wasn't a huge tourist destination and thought I was big pimpin'. Hotel room probably would have been triple that if it had been in a tourist hot spot.

The story itself is not negative because nothing was wrong about it. But that doesn't mean that it wasn't written to give the opposite impression. Evidenced by the fact that ATH ran with it and Plaschke apparently melted down over it.Originally posted by BoulderCat:
I don't think of it as a negative story. It's public record. The basketball program at UK brings in a lot more money than it spends. Those Final 4 trips make a lot of money not only for UK, but for the SEC as well. Is there really anyone left out there who doesn't know about the money involved in college sports? I wouldn't think so.
Sure but it did cost like $8 for a bottle of water?Originally posted by wildcatsboston1984:
A $150 a day meal plan? I used to get $50 if that and I was pocketing mad cash by getting dollar menu food. I could have gotten rich being a UK manager LOL
