UK with 6th best Portal class so far.

According to this article we have the 6th best portal class so far. 5th best in the SEC. Just trying to find some positives. Hoping we have a few more coming to improve it even more.

UK ranked 6th best portal class so far

The last part is the sad reality that fans need to realize. The sec is a beast and even good coaches and teams will be chewed up with the insane schedule.

Add in the b10 now breaking the bank for anyone, and the future is really tough for uk.

Once, again, it sounds as though UK is doing pretty well for NIL.

Hope we Coach ‘em up.

what was the portal class ranked last year?
Last year we were 21st. Everyone acknowledges that the transfer portal can be a crap shoot. We bombed with a few of them last year, no doubt. Biggest difference in our classes between last year and this year is the area of focus. Last year we signed 2 total guys who played on the line combined between defense and offense. We have signed 8 so far this year between combined.

I do like that we were able to keep a majority of our recruiting class together and have done pretty well in the portal. That means that the Kentucky brand and NIL is still decent. What the coaches do with it, still remains to be seen.

We definitely aren't bad. The perspective though is we're still towards the bottom of the sec in both recruiting and transfers. That despite bringing an impressive haul.

So even if we have really good talent, we're still going vs great talent every week. Its tough.

UK's future has been really tough since the reality of NIL hit. Despite a few big backers, UK just doesn't have the financial clout behind it nor the in-state recruiting base the biggest players do.

I’m not sure we can sit here and whine about NIL when CMS and crew seemingly are doing fine.

Last year they were top 20ish as of right now it’s looking like they’re going to beat that. Even if there’s a drop off and other programs gain ground, probably not going to fall out of top 15-20.

The issue is not talent acquisition, at least in terms of “ratings”. From the jump and throughout the reign of Stoops and his core crew, they’ve been able to haul in talent this program never sniffed. Pre-NIL he was bringing in much improved “recruiting classes” in the old sense. Now, he’s bringing in top 20ish or better NIL portal hauls.

The issue with Stoops has been everything after getting them here. Developing, coaching, scheming/play calling. Specifically offensive skill.

We will never escape the lower half of the SEC when it comes to recruiting or the portal, that is just the nature of the conference we are in. I know it is an unpopular take but with the expanded SEC schedule 6-6 or 7-5 is a good year for us going forward

It really will be. 5-6 wins will be our norm. That sucks but its reality. Our down years will be 3-4 wins and up years 7-8. Maybe with a really less brutal schedule we could get to 8-9.

Fith best portal class in the SEC so far seems to me we escaped the lower half. But that's just me doing math I learned in grade school.

Seem to be meeting needs, but all of this is just "on paper" stuff. We won't know until after we see their production on the field. That's a long way off. Wish they'd open Spring practices back up even if its limited to viewing from the hill

We probably had similar math teachers, however in my post I was referencing where we will finish in the SEC standings. Our rank in portal recruiting means little when the whistle blows and the game starts.

After rereading my post it was unclear as to my meaning but in my defense we were 13th in recruiting and 5th in portal so even 3rd grade math will tell you that translates into the lower half of the SEC as to incoming player talent

I think the one important recruit is going to be the transfer of the QB... I see some improvement from who we had last year and I am thankful for what BV did for UKFB... I thank him for coming here and giving it the old college try... Didn't work out as all us know...
I am looking forward to see the new QB and how it works out for UK... I am hopeful that the coach's know how to use him in the right way, and develop the receiver room better...
The RB position might be equal or better in a couple positions... That will also improve the overall team if the new coach make's the right call...
The next important position as we all know is the LT spot... There has to be a lot of improvement there for any position moving forward... If you can't protect the QB's blindside, we are in deep trouble like always... Have to get another LT and maybe two would be better for depth...
Need lots of help on the D side of the ball also... As much talent as we had last couple of season's and it was wasted on the coach's... Still make's me mad to think about all the crap we saw on the field... Miss more tackles that tat I could had made and I am half crippled up... Pisses me off to no end... Dumb coaching all the way around...
Can we had a coaching overhaul and transfer all of the out...
Wouldn't surprise me if we only win 2 games...

100% correct. If people will just accept that then they will be better off. People on here actually think we can win the SEC and compete for a national title though if we just get the "right coach" here. It's nice to have dreams.

If only it was that easy I think we would have done it by now.

Good Point. This year heavier in the portal with lineman help and IMO heavier in the freshman class in skill guys might make a good combination.

I don’t trust the methodology associated with portal rankings. They exist to drive traffic and clicks, so I gotta take them with a grain of salt and fun water cooler talk. This year’s 6th ranked class may have been last years 30th ranked class because the pool is worse this year than last.

As I pointed out earlier ON3 has a weighted ranking based off of additions and loses. It has UK as the 34th best transfer class

I think its goofy to do it this way. To get transfers in, you have transfers out. I guess graduation could account for some attrition but thats now only a small percentage, and even still those guys are no longer on the roster.

On on3 uk lost 3 - 4 star transfers and added 2. It shows a better look at the entire portal outlook vs just what came in. TTU lost zero 4 stars and added around 8. Hince they’re #1.

Goofy? Seems like basic common sense. And your second sentence undermines your first. Yes, you have to have players leave to bring in new blood. Thus, you need to measure the net +/-.

Key and Brown were both pretty much top 10 or close portal guys, losing those two has to be skewing that ranking some. but if you listen to our fans, they weren't that big of a loss. I also don't know if that ranking accounts for losses to the NFL draft like Walker and Hairston.

Brown as a WR seriously underperformed, and our brain-dead ST coach refused to use him as a punt returner, limiting his potential impact.

Key was BY FAR our most productive WR and is a huge loss, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
