Great that you guys are coming down, you picked a great weather day. We owe Western they have had our number the past couple of years.

Western with a 6 spot in the top of the 7th, Carson hits a solo blast to get us on the board in the bottom of 2nd. WKU leads 6-1 going to the 3rd.

Now 10=1 WKU going to bottom of the 4th, Cats pitchers are dreadful today giving up 10 hits, and 6 walks. Bad day at Black Rock comes to mind.

I'm usually a positive guy. But until 20 is let go as the mgr, UK baseball is never going to prosper. What else can you say?

A big 14-6 thumpin by WKU, their 9th win in the last 11 games vs UK. We have maybe 6 pitchers we can say give us decent efforts. Beggs, Cody, Strecker, Lewis, Dwyer, and Hjelle.
Another puzzler is the batting order, seems Becker should be moved up and Mahan down a little, McNeil should hit clean up. Got to get D Hairston back in the line up, Z Arnold as well, Squires cannot hit, Kottom, I believe will hit, and seems like T Marshall and Z Recks need a little more PT.

I just don't know what to say about this team. Pitching today was awful. Mahan cannot play short. The lineups that Hendo puts out are a joke. Its frustrating beyond words. I just......I have no words. Good night

Well that was sure a disaster...we sat with a family member of one of the players and he said Henderson is clueless...it is time for Mitch to step up after the season and end this disaster...I would guess we don't win 10 games in conf play and Otis will destroy them...we won't go back this season, but we talked to a couple of the SB players that were there and we are going to try to make some of their games

Baseball is a very simple game if you let it be. The more you try to out-think the game the more likely you're going to get beat by the game. Henderson is one of the people that believes that he can out-think the game. That's why he often is doing the cute little thing where he is changing pitchers in the middle of counts and stuff like that. Few managers ever do that, but he is one that does it regularly. There is a reason that few managers do it. It's because they are smart enough tor realize that it is not going to work well. This season it seems as though he is trying to be cute with the lineup. He's not making the easy decisions on what the lineup should look like, but is instead trying to out-think the game.

Take Riley Mahan as an excellent example of Henderson trying to out-think the game. Mahan was hitting somewhere below 5th in every game before the 3rd game in the Buffalo series. He was hitting something like .438 on the year at that point. In the third game of the series Henderson moved him to cleanup (it still pains me to say this). Since that day, he has gone 6-30 for an average of .200. If you take out yesterday's game where he actually hit 5th then he's only gone 5-27 for an average of .185. I'm sure we'll see him hitting 4th or 5th this weekend despite the fact that he is struggling that high in the lineup. Not to mention the fact that guys like Reks, Hairston, and Arnold are seeing the ball pretty well and they aren't playing.

Some years ago I was fortunate enough to be able to meet and talk with the father of a former player. That father was adamant about the dislike of Henderson among former players and their families. He actually told a story about when Henderson was in his first year he was so nervous during at least one game that he froze up and couldn't make any decisions. He couldn't even call in pitches from the dugout because he was so afraid of making a mistake. The catcher basically became the coach during that game. I have no reason to believe that this story isn't true, and when a coach is that uptight it trickles down to the players. They begin to play uptight and they stop having fun. They stop playing for the love of the game and they start worrying that they are going to mess up, which only leads to more mess ups. Henderson cannot and should not be our coach, and probably never should have been. I really loved Cohen when he was here, but it's getting to the point where I am going to hold a grudge against him for cursing us with Henderson.

^ The tendency to pull pitcher mid-count could also be indicative of Henderson having difficulty making a decision -- i.e., he's not sure of the decision to yank the pitcher to do so before the at-bat starts, then decides mid at-bat that he should have yanked the kid. Or he could be trying to out-think everyone else -- who knows.

We'll see if they can have a solid season, but the early returns are not great at this point. And yes, as Tskware points out, WKU beat us twice in a row in football and has owned UK in baseball in head-to-head matchups for too long now. Too bad too many UK followers don't give a damn as long as things are rolling along ok on the basketball court.

EKU beat Miss St last night in 10, 16-12...Cats better watch out on April 12th :joy:

I told my friend last night that 20 has to be the worst coach and has the worst program of all of UK Athletics. It's too bad Barnhart is letting his friendship with 20 ruin this baseball program that Cohen had starting building. He's to baseball what Joker was to football. A buzzkill to a building process. Like I've said before. As long as 20 is the mgr, UK baseball will never go anywhere.

I agree with this. I think Henderson has done as much as he can with the baseball program. I don't think that an increase in funding or a better stadium is going to help our success as long as he is coach. I think that he has a ceiling and he has actually surpassed that ceiling twice with luck thanks largely to AJ Reed and Austin Cousino. Without that class he proves to be terrible as a coach, and if this year does not turn around it will blatantly show how poor of a coach he really is.

Pretty sure , but hasn't he only made the NCAA tourney once since being HC?...IF we are actually going to get a new stadium then we need MB to flush out everything with a big time hire as HC and let's go!!

He has made the tourney twice. In 2012 and 2014. The one thing that bothers me the most, and maybe it shouldn't, but the other school up I-64. Seeing the success they have had while UK has fallen flat is just a knife in the side. Henderson couldn't coach himself out of a paper bag but I'm afraid Mitch won't do what is necessary.

There was a time when it was often said that teams like UK would never be successful at baseball because they were too far north and would be at a huge disadvantage. Teams like Louisville and Indiana are proving that theory wrong. Rather than being in that crowd we're on the outside watching those schools improve rather than improving ourselves.

I just cannot believe that UK is going to spend 30+million dollars and not make some major changes in the dugout

John Cohen shot that ' Too far North ' theory down over 10 years ago. BTW Maine used to be an annual participant in Omaha !
