Cats face Baylor in an elimination game on ESPN @ 7:00 pm. Should be an interesting game, Baylor got hammer by Florida in it's opening game 11-0, then came back today usuing their 2nd pitcher, and knocked FSU out of the tournament 7-2
Baylor is going back to their ace against UK, who I am sure will counter with the durable Kelsey Nunley, who has pitched every inning in the NCAA tourney for us so far.

Not 1, but TWO home runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Emily Gains a solo shot followed by a Krystal Smith double, and a Ginny Carrol 2 run tater. Cats lead 3-0 in the top of the 2nd, Baylor takes out their all-american pitcher.

Cats add 2 more via hits and aggressive base running. Really have Baylor on their heels leading now 5-0 bottom of the 4th !

They sure do, Krystal Smith with a solo homer to lead off the 6th. Cats up now 6-0, Baylor with another pitching change.

Whoa ! Got a little too exciting there, Baylor gets 3 in the bottom of the 6th. Also left the bases loaded, after Nunley gets the big strikeout. Cats up 7-3 going to the top of the 7th.

Making it harder than it needs to be. Up 7-4. The run they just scored doesn't mean anything. Just don't want to get the tying runner to the plate.

Wow, what an implosion. 2nd baseman booted a routine ground ball. Can't give up extra outs. Nice game saving catch by Sagermann there at 3rd.

I think UK's coach made a few mistakes. Nunley has pitched too much. Also, the outfield should not be in when it's a 2 run game with 2 out. Who cares if the runner on 2nd scored? Still would've been up 1. Outfield should have been set up to take a double away. Put your heels a step from the warning track and take away the double. Maybe they couldn't have gotten to that ball anyways but that was an alignment mistake for UK, IMO.

Sometimes coaches are too stubborn for their own good, Cumbess is 10-1 this year as a pitcher. She could have came in.

Does UK only have 1 pitcher?? Clearly her mojo was gone in the 6th, so damn obvious but the coach refuses to put another pitcher in.

I don't know a ton about softball pitching staffs, but I've never seen a pitcher get hit this hard and consistently. I mean, it's almost a guarantee she can't go an inning without damage.

As I say that, leadoff double.

This loss is on the UK coach. That pitcher was worn out and should have been replaces. Surely we had another pitcher. I feel sorry for the UK pitcher as she will have to live with this and it was not her fault. She was placed in a terrible situation.

Agreed. Up 7-0 with 2 games looming on Sunday, she should have taken her out. Your the coach ... you make the decisions; don't let your pitcher dictate it.

Hopefully they develop more pitching depth for next year.

Worst job of coaching I've ever seen. Nunley ran out of gas in the 6th and should have been pulled. This loss is definitely on Coach Lawson.

Tough call on the pitcher. That was horse we rode in on......that said....man she was just getting clobbered. I think at least extra innings I'd have gone with Cumbess.

What is her problem anyway? Does she not understand softball? Baylor was the smarter team by changing their pitcher. I fell bad for the girls, but this game was all on the coach.

Wow, crushing loss for this team. The players, and coaches had never been this far before and it showed. Nunley was absolutely phenomenal all postseason but she ran out of gas. Up 7-0 with 6 outs to go she should have been resting for tomorrow. Cumbess has been a good pitcher this year and she is probably better at 100% than Nunley who was maybe 70% by the end of the game.

Still a great season for the team. They have to put this behind them and move on. They've got some young players who can build off of this season but this loss will hurt for a long, long time. In what was the best season UK softball has ever had it ended with a game like this. Tough one to take.

Never understood why the outfield never adjusted.
Baylor pounded the left field side the whole game.
nunnley pitched way to many purches .

UK has a pretty good coach. BUT.....this loss was on the coach. She put Nunley in a bad spot with this many pitches...and Nunley finally cracked.

Absolutely right, this is all on the coach. Can't believe she couldn't see Nunley was out of gas and had nothing left after pitching her forever. She even said that Nunley would be mad at her if she took her out. Is Nunley our coach now too? Embarrassing loss after a 7-0 lead in the 6th inning. I'm just totally pissed right now at this coach for letting her team down.

What a dumb comment. Should we have gotten rid of Cal after the NIT fiasco? Who do you think brought in the good players? She put UK softball on the map. Too many baseball fans judging softball and the two have very little in common.

Changing pitchers seemed pretty obvious to me. However, we just don't know what all factored into her decision. My wife is a high school coach here in Central Kentucky. I hear the parents in the stands question her about some call just about every game. A lot of times I question her as well. Here is the thing. I have the oportunity to ask her on the way home why she made these calls. Just about everytime I ask her she gives me a very good reason that nobody could have known unless they were the coach. My point is that Lawson had her reasons and only she knows what they were. Knowing how it ended, of course she would have done it differently but she didn't have that info when she made the decision.

C oach Lawson showed her inexperience when she chose to live or die with Nunley. Also when she had her outfielders too shallow on the game tying double. Nunley was phenominal but it was obvious to every one but the coach that she was done in the 6th inning. Hey, Rachel, hven't you heard of bringing in a closer.

I think Lawson is a great coach. She made some mistakes but so did the players. Easy grounder to 2nd was booted. 2 out rally never should have happened. The players were inexperienced and so was the coach. Great season for the team just a terrible ending.

Lawson is the only reason UK got to where they are. You cannot question anything she does at this point. She made have made some mistakes, but without her, UK is never making it this far. She's an amazing coach and we are very lucky to have her.

Yep, terrible coach. How many times did UK get to CWS before she arrived? How many super-regionals had they played in? With Nunley another two years, they ought to remain very good.

Had our 2Bwoman fielded a routine ball in top of 7 this thread would be 1/2 as long as the bitchers wouldn't have shown.
