UK Students

I'm a student and have always been ashamed of the student body in support of football. Socializing can take place before and after the game.

Maybe they should have a "floating student section" Each year depending on their turn out from the previous year, the section will move up or down. Low turnout or many early exits and they move towards the top and other fans are rewarded with better seats. Strong support earns them the good seats. That way they get what they earn.

That's basically what they did with the renovations. Students had 50 yard line ($500+ K Fund contribution/seat) tickets available to them for $5 a game till this season ... now they're all stuck down there in the endzone in a much smaller student section.

I'm not sure it's a solvable problem.

UGA has a a "use it or lose it" policy with student tickets. If a student does not use their football ticket or doesn't turn it back into the student pool, then they get a strike. After so many strikes, they can't get tickets the next year. UK should do that with its student basketball ticket raffle. Each football game you attend increases your chance in the basketball ticket raffle.

Or. they should just eliminate student seating at the football games and make them all (full) pay seats.

It looked like a blowout...same thing happens in the NFL and at ***audible gasp** basketball games. Not a fantastic look but come on it's not just a UK thing. Hell Vandy had like 12 people at their opener and it didn't look like the students knew there was a game.

You really want to compare yourself to Vandy?

It was just an example from a game I saw on TV. Look around the nation, any school that is not a traditional power has trouble with students staying or even going to the game in the first place. Posters on this board act like they have never left a game early in their lives and that UK students are the only ones that do this.

May not seem like a great excuse but I heard from a couple of the UK students that they left early because they were hungry and went to go get food because the concession lines are so long, the food is expensive, tastes like crap and doesn't fill them up. No bang for your buck.

It was a cupcake scrimmage. We never stuck around for the entirety of those kind of games when I was a student as well. Wait for a meaningful SEC game, then you can judge them. My guess is they will stick around for the whole thing and be fired up. Unless UK is getting their tails kicked in or something like that.

Wow. Nice insight days after the game.

Get rid of student tickets and in 20 years you'll have 40k empty seats in a 62k stadium and zero of those will be contributing to the k fund. I'm always amazed at the hair brained schemes people come up with aimed at doing nothing more than ostracized the future base of fans. Get over your demented insecurities about there being a few empty seats on TV.

Honestly though if UK would establish a better on field product, more students would come and stay. During Brooks tenure student section was packed.

i would agree that students could have a more consistent and greater show of force...with that being said...why do you think there are about 5,000 fewer seats in CWS now...because students are not the only ones not showing up...

we all know BBN can find an exit at the football stadium...

students will show up and stay for the same reasons all fans will show up and stay...on field product worth the time, and a game worth sticking around for...

folks, it was one of the hottest days of the summer Saturday, and it looked to be a blow out early on...students weren't the only ones leaving...

ULL doesn't really command suffering through heat exhaustion...eku and charlotte aren't going to be full capacity through the end either...games against those types of opponents have absolutely no appeal...

It is really amazing to me that some people try to dictate what other people like and do. I personally have stayed to the bitter end of every game since this stadium was built save a handful of games I have had to miss. But that's just me. Some people have no desire to stick around and watch a blowout whether we are winning or losing. Students have other things to do. There were many students and other fans who arrived early and stayed the duration. Many also left early. It is not a fan base. It is not a generational problem. It is an individual choice to attend and to stay the whole time or to leave. It ultimately comes down to the product on the field. Create a better product and more people will choose to stay later.

Personally, just never understood the concept of attending a sporting event, or any event for that matter, where the goal is to see how soon you can leave. Glad my life isn't that busy.

When I was a student and still to this day 26 years later, I never leave the stadium before the final horn sounds. I can count on two fingers the number of times I've left early and both of those were for reasons other than performance on the field.

Or lets discuss how fans aside from the students (who had already left) leave the game with a minute to go in a one score game...with the opponent having the ball... geeez.

That's the part I'll never understand.. The students suck at basketball games too.. I think they spend so much time standing in line for tickets that when the time comes they're all ready for bed.

more people complaining about the students leaving without one mention about 90% or more of the club level paddock seating being empty :)
