UK starting five

I love what I see with Bball IQ & Shooting.

It’s totally opposite of what I got accustomed to (and hated). Do we have athletes? I’m used to guys like Diallo, etc who can wow you in dunk contests but can’t make a pass or jump shot.

Just hoping we are athletic enough

I’d go
Butler
OO
Robinson
Carr
Williams

Sub in Kriisa, Chandler, and Brea when needed. I think Chandler could end up starting but it won’t matter as long as he gets his minutes.

Those are the 8 we will win with IMO. I like the depth provided by Garrison, AA, Perry, and Noah though.
Yeah I think that's probably my initial starting 5 as well with the chance for Brea and Chandler to disrupt that at some point.

I’d much rather have the skill, I think we have enough athletic ability to do well though.

After watching this game, I think it will be:

Butler
Oweh
Robinson
Carr
Williams

Chandler comes off the bench playing 20-25 mins and could eventually end up starting. Brea struggled, but he will play big minutes. As will Kerr. Garrison 10-15 mins. Almanor will have a game or two where he comes in and hits 3/4 threes, but don’t see a lot of play there, nor do I from Perry or Noah year one outside of cupcake games. Gonna be a fun ride.

Jack Pilgrim said it well on the KSR Rapid Reaction -- this squad has a ton of specialists who are great at one thing and average at the rest. I think we've only got a handful of guys that have to be on the floor as much as humanly possible: Carr, Robinson, Williams, and maybe Chandler. Butler will be our PG at any important moment but I don't think he has to be on the floor down the stretch against good competition, if that distinction makes sense.

My starting five right now is

Butler
Robinson
Oweh
Carr
Williams

Bench guys in order of minutes:

Chandler
Garrison
Kriisa
Perry

I think that will be the bulk of the rotation with the other guys playing as needed based on their skillset.

You think Perry gets play over Brea? I just don’t see that year one. Love what I think Perry will be by year 3, and possibly some next year.

Yes. I think Brea is going to get lost in our wing rotation a bit and Perry will be groomed as our four year point guard. I don't think Perry is better right now than Brea in any way (the opposite actually) but looking at this roster, I see a big role for Perry and not much of one for Brea.

I'm also an idiot, so we shall see.

Don’t think you’re an idiot at all, just surprised to see that perspective. Brea looked pretty bad today, but I feel it was just an off shooting night. I don’t think he shoots 50% from 3 this year, but a good 40+ and will play 15-20 mins at minimum.

I just don’t think Perry can create his shots or defend well enough at this level year one. He’s going to be great, though. Going to be fun to see it all play out. I love the direction this program is going in.

Will take time, but what I've seen from him tonight. That's his spot vs comparison. My fav player as of now. Is Noah
I can see it. People just have to be patient with those two. It’s there, just can’t expect it year one. Let them develop like normal freshman from the past and watch them become legends once it’s all said and done.

Odd that Perry is seen as a point guard. He was the off-guard in high school.
More like Tony Delk than Travis Ford.

Brea
Jaxon
Carr
Amari

Oweh - 6th man

7 - Chandler
8 - Garrison
9 - Perry
10 - Kerr
11 - Noah
12 - Almanor

Butler and Amari get all minutes they can go and the other 3 starters rotate regularly to play 10 players . Almanor an Noah odd men out imo.

We will play 10, but it won’t be a true platoon style. I doubt we will see 5 in and 5 out, but it’s possible.

I’d say for our starters, Pope will go heavy on the defense:

Butler
Oweh
Robinson
Carr
Williams

That’s our strongest all around lineup, IMHO

That leaves us a strong bench:

Kriisa
Chandler
Brea
Almonor
Garrison

I think Kriisa gets starter type minutes as sixth man, since he can play either guard spot.

Garrison probably does close to a 20/20 split with Williams at the 5.

Brea is a shooting specialist who will play based on how hot he is from game to game.

Almonor plays only when Carr has to come out, and even then I can see Pope going small ball with Robinson at the 4.

Chandler is the wildcard. He could push for some big minutes, if he defends. I think he has the offensive game to break into the rotation.

Perry is not going to play over Brea and K thus season. Those guys didn't come here to not play. If you want to see team turmoil in season 1 of Pope era, that's a brilliant way to cause it IMO.

Butler and Oweh are going to be the best defensive backcourt in America.
Regardless of the starting 5, there will not be a deeper or better bench in the NCAA.
These 2 things are going to take us far this season

Part of me thinks Oweh will come off the bench. I can see always wanting either Butler or Oweh on the court, since either can disrupt the opposing pg.

You could definitely play them both together, but I expect us to be more offensive minded with just enough defense.

That makes sense too, though I think the hope is that Oweh will be better on offense under Pope's offense. Think it was said he shoots a lot better in catch and shoot situations and that's more of what Pope's offense is designed for as opposed to creating off the dribble.

I expect him to be solid offensively, but I think we have better offensive weapons. I just think there’s value in always having one or the other on the floor.

Could definitely see them both on the floor late if we were in control and trying to close out, assuming they are both knocking down free throws as well.

This team has a lot of pieces. Will be fun and interesting to watch the mix and match.

The only 3 guaranteed starters are Williams, Carr and Robinson at the 5 through 3 spots. The front 2 guards can be argued in any combo.

Brea had an off night, but if he can find his shot, it's hard to keep the best shooter in the NCAA on the bench, especially when he's 6'7.
