UK starting five

Yes. I think Brea is going to get lost in our wing rotation a bit and Perry will be groomed as our four year point guard. I don't think Perry is better right now than Brea in any way (the opposite actually) but looking at this roster, I see a big role for Perry and not much of one for Brea.

I'm also an idiot, so we shall see.
I think you are vastly underrating Brea. He was maybe the top shooter in basketball last year. He or Sheppard.

Part of me thinks Oweh will come off the bench. I can see always wanting either Butler or Oweh on the court, since either can disrupt the opposing pg.

You could definitely play them both together, but I expect us to be more offensive minded with just enough defense.
I think Butler and Oweh are set in the backcourt. Coach Pope has lots of shooters to mix and match in the line-up. Butler/Oweh will cause real problems defensively for opposing guards.

It’s hard to say from the clips of the B&W game because it didn’t look like Pope’s offense out there. It looked like a generic 5 out offense.

Definitely could go that way, and wouldn’t surprise me. You could certainly start both and stagger the subs so that one is always on the court.

My overall point is that I expect to see one or the other on the court most of the time, because either can be effective at cutting off the head of the snake, so to speak.

I think guarding the point of attack becomes much more difficult if neither of those guys is on the court.

We will play 10, but it won’t be a true platoon style. I doubt we will see 5 in and 5 out, but it’s possible.

I’d say for our starters, Pope will go heavy on the defense:

Butler
Oweh
Robinson
Carr
Williams

That’s our strongest all around lineup, IMHO

That leaves us a strong bench:

Kriisa
Chandler
Brea
Almonor
Garrison

I think Kriisa gets starter type minutes as sixth man, since he can play either guard spot.

Garrison probably does close to a 20/20 split with Williams at the 5.

Brea is a shooting specialist who will play based on how hot he is from game to game.

Almonor plays only when Carr has to come out, and even then I can see Pope going small ball with Robinson at the 4.

Chandler is the wildcard. He could push for some big minutes, if he defends. I think he has the offensive game to break into the rotation.
I don't think Butler and Oweh should be on the floor together at guard; they're our two worst perimeter shooters. Yes, I know they're also our two best perimeter defenders but I'd rather see Oweh play with Kriisa and Butler play with Brea or Chandler or Perry. Of course, any time we have to have a defensive stop both Oweh and Butler will be on the floor somewhere and if we play a team whose top two scorers are their guards then playing Oweh and Butler together would make sense.

That's just my opinion but I do love defense and your starting lineup would have a chance to be the best defensive five in the country. It's nice to have a roster with options; last year we had a 12 man roster with 4 of them centers and 2 others not good enough for the rotation. That left us with 6 players for the 1-4 spots along with a couple of the centers playing out of position at the 4 quite a bit.
Also that great defensive team could still shoot teams out of a zone since Robinson and Carr are pure shooters and Butler isn't bad on spot up threes and Williams is a whiz at spotting open 3 point shooters from the post and getting them the ball.

Right now I'm seeing a starting lineup of Butler, Chandler, Robinson, Carr, and Williams with Oweh, Brea, and Kriisa all getting 18+ mpg off the bench and the others seeing more minor minutes. Garrison could get 16-18 minutes per game backing up Williams or I could see Carr getting some of those backup minutes allowing Pope to use his 5 out offense and making us a little harder to gameplan for. Chandler might not be a good as Oweh defensively but with his size, athleticism, hustle, and work ethic I think he'll be a good defender. A few weeks ago I'd have rated Chandler's chances of playing ahead of Brea or Oweh at near nil.
