UK offers 2018 PF/C from Cincinnati

Ben roberts seems to think uk will move on from simi. Apparently his handler/mentor has moved to arizona.
Kyle Tucker seems to think that Barrett and Simi don't won't to play on the same team so he feels that means UK thinks they have a strong shot at Barrett since Cal didn't offer Simi a schollie.

There was a poster on here a couple of weeks ago saying that Shittu and Barrett won't go to the same school. I hate to even entertain the idea that poster might be correct, since he seemed "trollish", but this is interesting nonetheless.

I'm going to assume you're also one of the people who bitches about us never having any experience.

I'd say Cal knows a little something about late blooming bigs.

Regards,

Camby, Dozier, Davis, Cauley-Stein, etc.

Didn't know that but it could be why Cal has not offered Shittu. Who knows. Tucker is usually pretty connected imo. But in recruiting there are so many variables.

Im not saying he is, but he reminds me of davis build wise. Mobile, athletic, long, and light on his feet. Apparently hes blowing up, maybe due to growth spurt? He was 6'7/6'8 and apparently now is more like 6'10 with a 7'3 wingspan(almost identical to 18 year old davis). Doubt hes 5 star talent but multi year development guy behind other guys? Still shocking when considering shittu unless cal is confident in Zion and Bol and wants this guy behind them with a potential mass exodus?

But only 2 scholarships to give in the fall. Right now it seems like quickley and hayes will take them. Right now uk doesn't know which players will leave there stock relies on there season performance. There's no wall,ad,cousins, towns etc on this team where you know there 1 and done top 10 pick Entering the season. Every analyst has questioned every player on this team on weather they can be 1 and done. I'm sure there will some but we don't know who and how many.
Well using that logic, Duke doesn't have any scholarships left for the fall. UK will have at least four scholarships for next season. Do you really think Diallo and Knox aren't one and dones? Heck, Diallo was almost a none and done. Do you really think he'll come back again? You don't have to be Wall, Cousins, AD, or KAT to be a one and done.

I don't know a lot about this kid, but if Cal thought enough of his upside to offer, i have to believe this is a kid that will end up being a very talented frontcourt player for someone, even if it's not Kentucky. No coach is perfect, but when it comes to watching and knowing basketball talent, you don't find many better than Cal. This is probably a situation of Cal needing a backup plan if the bigs he wants go elsewhere. In today's recruiting world, even when you know if a recruit wants your school, you really never know until it's offical and the kid is signed. While Cal is not perfect, with recruiting, until he does give me a reason not to believe in what he is doing, i have to believe the man does in fact know what he is doing. You have to admit, it sure is cool that when it's considered a down year with recruiting, our roster still has plenty of top 25 talent to work with. Even when we miss on the elite of the elite, it's hard to be mad with 6 or 7 recruits all ranked in the top 30 or so basketball players in the nation.

Reading the player interviews about why they came to Kentucky (springboard to the NBA) and how much they think about the next level....both Diallo and Vanderbilt are 99.9% gone after this year no matter what happens barring a MAJOR injury. They both likely would have gone straight to the NBA if that were allowed.

This Hayes kid is listed as a 6'9 wide receiver on the Moeller football team. Moeller is scheduled to play St. Xavier on one of our local TV channels here in Cincinnati at 11: 30 AM this morning. I may try to watch a little of the game.

An unheralded, undeveloped, long, lanky PF/C prospect who plays WR in high school? Has anyone like that succeeded under Cal at Kentucky?

Have to say, I'm stunned by this one. Honestly, seems like a typical UL recruit - athletic big with some potential, but not overly high in the rankings. I know there are those who say never worry about recruiting while Cal is here, and that has certainly proven to be true, but it just seems like recruiting this year may not be to the level we've grown used to.

This is what Scout wrote about him: "Hayes is a kid who went from not starting and playing very limited minutes as a junior in high school to being a priority recruit for schools all over the Midwest as well as the University of Texas. In fact, according to his high school coach, Hayes has never started a game at any level in his program."

Never started a game going into his senior year? At any level?
The fact he still hasn't started going into his senior season for his AAU team or his HS worries me. But if Cal and Payne think they can mold him into a force then by all means go get him. They know more about evaluating talent then I do.

Article from Roberts, Like the idea of a multiple-year player. 7-3 wingspan is nice to work with.:)

How long before they want to kick him to the curb, because he isn't developing like they thought he should? There doesn't seem to be much patience for players that takes a couple of season for him to get going. Hell, they beat Humphries up and he was just a youngster.

I coached against this young man and Moe last year. It is true that he has blown up based on his "high end" athleticism. The thing that people probably don't realize is that Moeller plays upper classmen alot due to their deliberate offense. Jaxson's strengths are his mobility and athleticism which are not emphasized as much. That being said what has coaches drooling is the fact that Hayes' doctor is predicting that he will grow to be 7'2 with unbelievable athleticism.

He is a perfect 2nd big man commit for this team as we will only need 1 to really play next season due to losing Richards to the draft. We will be getting back PJ , Tai and SKJ IMO and adding Zion , possibly Barrett or Johnson and probably Bol Bol so it makes sense to add a high level project like that who could be a star in 2-3 years.
