UK offers 2018 PF/C from Cincinnati

Kid has been exploding lately. He's not the next AD, but he has that kind of build and he's rapidly improving.

I saw him play last year. I thought he was unbelievably athletic, but I never thought he'd get an offer from Kentucky after watching that game. He's had an incredible rise in the rankings. I'm an alum of where he goes to school. I'll be interested to follow his season.

big must of offered him in kindergarten and cal is honoring the scholarship. If uc offers I guarantee that's where he ends up

Have to say, I'm stunned by this one. Honestly, seems like a typical UL recruit - athletic big with some potential, but not overly high in the rankings. I know there are those who say never worry about recruiting while Cal is here, and that has certainly proven to be true, but it just seems like recruiting this year may not be to the level we've grown used to.

This is what Scout wrote about him: "Hayes is a kid who went from not starting and playing very limited minutes as a junior in high school to being a priority recruit for schools all over the Midwest as well as the University of Texas. In fact, according to his high school coach, Hayes has never started a game at any level in his program."

Never started a game going into his senior year? At any level?

What makes you say that?

This is a rare occasion where cal offers someone not in the top 200. I trust cal and know that he will get the right player.. I just want to know what makes this kid so special besides being a 4 yr player

I'm going to assume you're also one of the people who bitches about us never having any experience.

I'd say Cal knows a little something about late blooming bigs.

Regards,

Camby, Dozier, Davis, Cauley-Stein, etc.

For what it's worth his high school team only lost one game last year and that was in the D1 state finals on a handcheck call with very little time left. One of the starting bigs was a senior going to Harvard I believe. It's not like he's been struggling to see the floor at Tate's Creek. I expect he'll be a starter this year.

I read somewhere that he grew 10 inches since he entered high school, I suspect that has something to do with it. Also he was one of the high risers on the summer camps.

Sorry about the screw up on the last post don't know what the hell happened.

I love recruits like this. Look at the NBA - there are as many out of nowhere late-bloomers who became stars as there are kids who were tabbed as stars since they were sophomores in high school.

This is a kid that can spend his first year developing and play solid rotation minutes in year 2 or 3.

I mean if you think Cal just went from Zion Williamson/Simi Shittu to Hayes as an indicator that he's not getting his top guys as if there are no options in between, I don't know what to tell you.

There were a half dozen five star bigs courting a UK offer and you think this is a sign Cal can't get anyone better? No offer to Jordan or Moses Brown. Let Naz Reid go. Hasn't reached out to David McCormick. Haven't heard anything from Bryan Penn-Johnson lately. Just gave up and went straight to a kid who's never started a game.

Somebody needs to pin this to the top of the board! Post of the year as far as I'm concerned.

Wonder why this kid gets a offer and meyer and slater change there cb pick to arizona for simi

I don't think UK has even offered Shittu, so at this point in the process (signing period about a month away) why would anyone pick Shittu to UK?

Many "gurus" still think Shittu goes to UK, despite not having an offer. That should tell you something.

Yep, Cal had lost his mind. He is clueless.

So jerry and andrew aren't connected in the recruiting world

Honest to goodness. Why is this knucklehead allowed on here?
Beats me. He get here 2 weeks ago and all he's done is smugly tell us who we're not going to get. I haven't had to utilize the Ignore feature in a while but I may do so for this joker.

This has to be the most off base post I have read in terms of recruiting in a while. Literally every year Cal has had a top 2 class. EVERY FREAKING YEAR. He will again . We are the favorites for Zion , Quickley , Johnson , and in the top 2 for Shittu , Barrett , and probably Grimes. We will have a top 2 class this season with 3-5 top 15 players . But you can't have a class of only top 15 players you need a few top 100 players as well like Baker , Willis , SKJ , Wynyard ect as you must have a few multi year guys .

Damn you for using facts and logic.

Ben roberts seems to think uk will move on from simi. Apparently his handler/mentor has moved to arizona.
POssibly but this offer has zero to do with that . We will need to sign 3 bigs this year and not all 3 will top 25 type guys not would want them to be. We will lose Gabriel , Knox , Richards , Diallo , JV all for sure and PJ and Alexander are possible as well. We have plenty of room . I do doubt we will have more then 1 big man commit in the fall though as they will want to see who leaves and who stays first.

But only 2 scholarships to give in the fall. Right now it seems like quickley and hayes will take them. Right now uk doesn't know which players will leave there stock relies on there season performance. There's no wall,ad,cousins, towns etc on this team where you know there 1 and done top 10 pick Entering the season. Every analyst has questioned every player on this team on weather they can be 1 and done. I'm sure there will some but we don't know who and how many.

I trust Cal on recruiting. By now most of you should. He brings in a great class every year and I believe he will this year.
