UK now third in the Zimmerman derby

If you don't like Zimmerman because you think he plays out on the perimeter too much and doesn't have much of a post game then I guess you won't like Thon Maker either. That's what's funny about all the posters downing Zimmerman and wanting Maker. Maker plays the majority of the time around the perimeter and is even thinner than Zimmerman. Diallo is currently Marcus Lee. He's a energetic player who brings defense but has little to no offensive skills. He scores off lobs and put backs. Swanigan is good but he's not as good as Zimmerman.

Zim is a 7 footer with good offensive skill both inside and out and can handle the ball for his size. He also has potential to be a very good defender. Plus he's also a good, not great, athlete for a 7 footer. I'd much rather have Zim over Diallo and would take him over Swanigan as well. Maker needs to stay in the 2016 class both for his and UK's interest. For him he needs more weight and strength plus he needs to badly work on his game down low and forget roaming the perimeter and jacking 3's. He's a tweener in college. He's practiced and built his game to be a perimeter player but Cal isn't going to let him play outside at his size. Problem is he's not strong enough and isn't as skilled as he needs to be to make a big impact in major college ball like many fans think he will. For UK, we already have Skal who is built similar and has a similar skillset. Zimmerman is also similar. 2015 is loaded with bigs and 2016 is not. I'd much rather take Zimmerman in 15 and Maker in 16. I'd also pick having Dakari or Towns back next year over Maker.
Great post .

I'd like to get Zimmerman, but would much rather have Thon Maker. Assuming we land him instead of Zimm, we'd be perfectly fine for next year, not to mention that he'd stay on the west coast and fade into obscurity like all talent does that goes to the worst coast.

Obviously anyone and everyone wants Maker more then Zimmerman but they are different players . Zimmerman is a true center . Maker is a combo forward in a center's body ( height wise ) . we can get both as regardless we need to sign 2 more bigs with Skal .

Ah, another speculation-presented-as-fact thread.

Let's try this again. Z plays on the perimeter because his coach wants him there, They have two other very tall kids who lack Z's passing and ball handling skills. He is an exceptional passer and a good shooter from 15 to 18 feet, much better than any of the current UK big men except KAT. So Z isn't out on the perimeter roaming around because he fancies himself as KD. He's out there because that's where his team needs him. I have not seen enough of Swanigan, Bryant or Diallo to rank them versus Z. I have seen Z play two complete games and I was impressed with his shooting, ball handling and especially his passing skills. He reminds me of Andrew Bogut in his ability to pass from the high post and top of the circle.

We are going to lose all our bigs ex Lee and Willis so we need at least two more bigs beyond Skal.. Z would certainly be one because of his unique skill set . It would be hard to turn away from Maker who is an unusual specimen to say the least but either Swanigan or Bryant would be fine. if Maker chose to go elsewhere. Diallo would be my last choice because he seems to prefer the perimeter and lacks the bulk to bang.

How big of a miss would he be for Cal in terms of replacing WCS and Dakari?
Not a miss at all. From the beginning, I never expected Zimmerman to play for Kentucky. He will stay out west. We will be just fine with Skal Labissiere, Thon Maker, Thomas Bryant, Marcus Lee, Alex Poythress. I expect Maker and Bryant to sign with us in the spring.

Think Skal and Zim would be a perfect combo. Their skill set seems better than the others. Then Swanigan would complement those two well as the bruiser big.

Starting with your 1st sentence, I totally agree. I now feel there is hope that I can read some posts from some who actually have an understanding of the game and the kids. Thanks!

and I seriously seriously doubt you two have seen them in person either...just like the rest of us you read a brief synopsis about a player, watch a few video clips and draw your own conclusions .....get over yourselves you are NOT the recruiting experts you want people to think you are

any worry that we are recruiting the Australian and the other guy (from Greece?) that we are going to miss out on some of our targets next year?

You might "serious doubt" it, but in my case you would be seriously wrong.

easy to say but impossible to prove?

KSR mentioned several of the top recruits at the McDAA game that are still unsigned. They couldn't say ALL of them are waiting to see what slots open up at UK once the season is over, but it certainly sounds like a few of them are doing just that... so, Cal must have a plan.

I know most scoff at that possibility, but I don't. Yea, I know he's projected 3rd and 4th in some drafts, but honestly he's had a number of games where he just hasn't looked that impressive. I think he still needs to work some on his game, and given the young man he is, and some of the things he's said I won't be all that surprised if he does come back.

he can work on his game at the next level. 24 hours a day without being interrupted with going to class and stuff. all while getting paid top 5 money.
