Just got home from the Horizon League tourney in Indy. Last year I attended and watched Oakland and knew they’d be a bad matchup for UK.

This year it’s Robert Morris. They will be a 14 seed and it would be great if UK avoids them.

They rank 140th in kenpom, their offensive efficiency rating is ranked 168th and their defensive efficiency rating is ranked 132nd.

We have bigger fish to worry about than Robert Morris. Calipari is no longer coaching here. We win that game by 40.

If as fans we are going to be scared of everybody, then just quit playing basketball. Bring on whomever. If we get Auburn first game so be it. But sick and tired of Fans being scared of Robert morris,

Not a game I’d be super confident.

Heck I hear UK will not be favored if we have to play SIUE, Wofford, Troy or actually any team in the field. UK ranks like 456 out of 350 schools in offense, and on defense we rank 1105 out of 350 schools. No one can actually figure out how we even make the tourney this year. UK will be playing in the KHSAA sweet 16 and Great Crossings is favored by 12.

Might as well start watching BASEBALL all spring and summer.

They won their conference, their conference tournament, and have the conference most outstanding player. If they’re a 14 seed they’ll be the toughest one.

Alvaro Folgueiras is a guy who I’ve been following as a potential transfer addition. I’m not sure if there’s enough there athletically but he can really shoot and pass and is very active on defense.

I've had the same thought. Could see him getting bullied a bit by some of these SEC bigs but there just are not many college players who lead their conference in both offensive and defensive efficiency. He does that all while being 6'9, 40%+ on almost 100 3's, good rebounding rate, good passer, and is still only 19. Best player on the best team in his conference and has FIBA experience to boot. I think if we got him as one of the first guys off the bench for next season and then come back as a senior to start that'd be a potential home run. Wouldn't hate it at all.

I was lazy and looked at average KenPom ranking(post tournament) of 13 and 14 seeds the last couple years like a week ago as it was unclear about the 3/4 line for us going into Mizzou.

The average 14 seed was ranked 114 one year and 129.75 the other. Only one of the 8 14 seeds was ranked lower than Robert Morris current 140.

If folks were curious the average 13 seed was ranked 94 one year and 83.5 the other.

If a team is playing their best basketball of the year right now, their seeding doesn't matter. Neither does their Kenpom. We've learned that twice recently.

Before you blame it exclusively on Cal, remember St. Peter's went to the Elite 8. And Oakland had eventual Final 4 team NC State on the ropes.

They should’ve lost the night before. That “and one” call at the end of regulation to allow them to tie it was 100% not a foul.

We owe them one after losing to them in the NIT.
We sort of (emptily) got them back in November of that same year, inviting them to the Keightley Classic and destroying them by 38. I was there for that one (a real badge of honor, let me tell you).

Also spanked 'em by 40 early in the 21-22 season.

2013 was just such a messed up season all the way around and the only thing that made it all okay was UofL later being shamed beyond what any other school has ever accomplished.

Kentucky lost to Oakland last year because our coach came up with one of the worst offensive gameplan in modern college basketball

I counted 9 fouls on this guy in the Oakland game! Six of which went uncalled!

My grandfather warned the President of the US that the Germans were going to bomb Pearl Harbor and he did NOTHING! I hope you have at least emailed our coach about this. He will be prepared, I do believe.

This is why you can't use the eye test to determine if a team is really good or not.
Exactly. I will never forget the post on this board in which a poster who claimed to know a lot about basketball and had seen Ramon Harris play. He said that Harris would lead Kentucky in scoring. He was THAT good! Heck, I even remember some of the posts saying that anyone who had ever watched basketball would know that Jared Carter was destined for stardom. Nothing against those players, they were both good role players for us, but they weren't going to be All-Amercans.

This year, Kentucky is going to the NCAA tournament with an experienced roster and a coach that is excellent at game planning.
This is not a roster of Freshman concerned with the NBA draft and a coach that mid major teams know they can out manage.

All good points. Still traumatized from last year when I watched Oakland live. Robert Morris looked pretty good in person (albeit against Horizon League competition). They’ve got really talented guards which you need in tourney play.

We really cant be worrying about any particular 13 or 14-seed. If we are, then we really don't deserve to move on to the next round. Now, would I rather play a struggling 14-seed than one that's hot? Absolutely. But in the end, if Kentucky is good enough to be a 3-seed then it shouldn't matter who our first round opponent is..

I agree with the OP's main point, Robert Morris looked pretty good, but we have beat whoever is in front of us.

I would be interested to hear your takes on what makes them a bad matchup for us. We all know that rankings and metrics can sometimes not tell the whole story. Sometimes style of play is a big factor. While I am confident in Kentucky winning this game handily, I would like to hear what in their lineup or style of play presents a problem. They are 125th on my model.

If we can’t beat Robert Morris, we don’t need to be thinking about a Sweet 16. I’m just being real
Don’t disagree entirely but sometimes teams are just bad matchups. You may beat them 9 out of 10 but they have the pieces to steal 1. For example, it took a buzzer beater to beat Princeton in 2011 in the first round. We then went on to knock off the overall 1 Ohio State and UNC on our way to a Final 4.

There were probably other 13 seeds that we wouldn’t had been in a dog fight with that year

If we get matched up Robert Morris, you gotta win. Don’t think fans will blame the bad matchup. I do get what you’re saying but it’s Robert Morris, we’d have a significant talent advantage

Oh absolutely… we should win and we have to win the first round game as a 3 or 4 seed. We absolutely cannot be one of the handful of first round upsets this year. It hurts the brand. The under 20 crowd on social media already constantly says “Kentucky will just flame out early like they always do”… we need to make to to the round our seed says we belong in this season.

I’m just saying that there is some reality to the “out of the 14 seeds, this one is a pushover and that one could cause some issues….but we should still expect a win”.

If we lose to Robert freaking Morris, Pope is gonna find a lot BBN with a cold shoulder real quick. Not saying to tar and feather but the wearing pjs to bed will start early in the marriage.
THIS

The days dreading to face the Robert Morrises of the world need to be over NOW. They have to be or we need a new everything where basketball is concerned. AFTER this year, it'll be time for the rest of the college basketball world to start dreading having to face KENTUCKY (again).

Go Big Blue !
