Seems Pope is making a conscious effort to get younger. He’s building for the future.

This is how teams like Houston, Alabama, and Auburn have been successful the last few years. Need some young guys that will buy into the program and develop.

He also needs to grab 2-3 Juniors/Seniors ready to be starters to go with Oweh and Garrison for next year.

LSU played in some straight up high school gyms this year, weird

Pope is clearly trying to upgrade the team’s size and athleticism. There’s no doubt this guy is an athlete and he’s 6’5” with a wide frame. Only a freshman, we can assume he isn’t coming here to start, and he has a year of SEC experience.

Sports Reference gives him an ORtg of 111 (the highlight vid says 109, idk), for reference Jaxson Robinson had his best offensive rating of his career this year and was 116, and his freshman year was 96. Defensive rating is, Miller 109 and Robinson 111.

This guy would be a very solid pickup. The kind of guy who you bring off the bench and put in attack mode against a tired defense.

Thomas is way higher on the want list than Miller.

The more I look into this guy the more I like him. He had a stretch of games in the non-con where he scored 11 to 20 points in 9 out of 11 games. That included double digits against Kansas St, Pittsburgh, UCF, and Florida St. He also hit three or more threes three times (shot 36% from 3 in that stretch). It looks like he had some injury issues after that (only played in 25 games, missed the UK game) and never quite reached the same form.

He has "gravity" on drives, a quick first step, elevates well on jumpers, and seems to be willing to kick it out on drives.

Dent was a HUGE MISS and I won’t be convinced otherwise. Everyone clamored and claimed it was no big deal last year when we let Great OSOBOR walk in favor or Brandon freakin Garrison!!!! Spare me with that shit. Brandon Garrison is a very, very average player and couldn’t hold Osobors jock on his best day.

Pope brought in an entire team of transfers who had eight wins against opponents ranked in the top 15, were seeded #3 in the NCAA tournament and reached the Sweet 16. How did Great Osobor and Washington do?

I don’t think it’s that simple, man. You don’t want to allocate funds for one guy if you think there may be better value options. Every team has a budget. We all want stars, but we are like a week into portal season. Don’t infight — save that stuff for when it’s apparent the job wasn’t done.

Sure it can. Some of these portal guys will want their contracts done by April 7th. For those, get it done now. However, there will be plenty of guys who want to test waters and won’t be done deals by then. So it’s both, be patient get it done early.

My understanding was we gave him a fair offer he went to UCLA and told them the offer they offered more and he accepted maybe gave Pope and KY a counter offer but you can’t spend 1/3 of your budget on one guy unless he is the final piece to the puzzle which he obviously isn’t.

Because I subscribe to the HOB and there are insiders there . He was way down the list of wing players. They had Max Green rated ahead of Eaglestaff. Like I said, there is a reason why South Carolina was his best offer .

It really hasn't got started yet.
I don't know why you judge portal kids different than HS kids.
People are bitching about Dent going to UCLA but wouldn't bat an eye at a LA area HS kid picking the Bruins over UK.
A lot of people have convinced themselves that with portal players it's 100% about the money and if you are willing to pay the most then you automatically get that kid.
That logic is 100% false.
