UK finishes 10th in 2016-17 Learfield all-sports standings

Sorry, I have to call BS.

Fake news... the things that post on the city, commuter school board say that, UL is the better sports university.
This dude gets super mad when you say nice things about UK athletics, be careful. Look for several posts demeaning a few of the UK sports.

NO, you don't mean to tell me. That the school that Mitch Barnhart is the A.D. at finished higher than the school that the great Tom Jurich is at. There's noway that this is possible. I mean according to some Jurich walks on water.

Hey, Obviously you did not read my entire post (insert insult)
You have me confused with somebody else...

Just because you post once like UMM doesn't mean you have to always post like UMM...

Cant argue with the ranking. Mitch has done a good job. We are a top 10 sports school.
I want #1 now. What a proud day that would be.

Congrats to Stanford for be #1 and also being a strong academic school.

Looking at the list of top 10 schools you notice that the schools have either the ocean near by or they are from a huge state population wise. Kentucky has no ocean and has only 4 million residents. Maybe we are #1 already????

Stanford= ocean and population
Ohio State= population
Florida= ocean and population
Southern Cal= ocean and population
North Carolina= ocean
Michigan= population
Texas= population and gulf of mexico
Penn State= population and ocean
Oregon= population and ocean
Kentucky= bluegrass, horses, pretty women, and liquor LOL

I've been a big critic of Mitch. But with football appearing to be turning the corner and his recent baseball hire, you gotta give credit where it is due. UK athletics is on a roll right now under his leadership.

Congratulations to the University of Kentucky, the athletes that earned the honor for the school, the coaches that trained and invested themselves into the coaching of these athletes, the tutoring staff and administration that invested hours and money into the major improvements to each sport over the past 10-15 years. Mitch Barnhart deserves major kudos for his leadership.

Might want to double check that Oregon Vs. Kentucky population

Not sure you can list Penn State as having "ocean". ;)

Still cool to see UK in the top 10 on this list regardless what other factors are involved.

Kentucky actually has about 400,000 more people than Oregon still. Penn State really isn't near the ocean. UNCheat also has population as NC is one of the top 10 states now and has over 10MM people.

Penn State and Ohio State are among the largest state universities in the country. Much bigger student populations than UK, and their states are much bigger than Kentucky.

A top 10 finish is really a huge accomplishment for UK. I think Mitch gets a sizable bonus for it too, which he deserves.

UL's #26 is pretty good for a community college. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The defining factor is size and number of sports offered.
The only sports that should be taken into account are the primary sports for both men and women played at the majority of schools.
Basketball
Football
Base/Softball
Soccer
Field Hockey (for Title IX equivalent to football)

Volleyball (unless you were including that under the Field Hockey category.) Nearly every school plays it, it isn't regional, and has a legit following. Not something like badminton. I could see including Mens and womens Golf as well seeing as it has a legit professional league.

It's a fantastic accomplishment. We've obviously always been good at basketball. But where we have progressed in other sports in the past 15 years is incredible. Football is trending in the right direction, baseball is back where it should be, women's basketball is actually a little down now but better than in the 90s, etc.

I realize that most fans only case about men's basketball and football. But the fact is being good across the board is a huge accomplishment and really puts us on the map as a true all-around program. And that makes every sport better.
