UK contacts Nevada’s Nick Davidson

Another guy that makes sense for UK. Though I think he might find better situations elsewhere.

If he was comfortable with the Almonor role+ some then I’d be all about it. I think he’s better than that and will get real guarantees along with more cash elsewhere.

Stylistically he’s a fit.

I said last night in a different thread that we need to be able to land 2 of these types of guys to split the PF spot. Like what Florida is doing with Condon and Haugh.

A kid like this as an option as one of those 2 PFs would be great! Same with the kid from Davidson who is transferring.

I agree, if possible, those 2 would be ideal for UK

Seems like we're getting linked to a bunch of a non-athletic shooters. We need some dawgs that can play with the big boys in the SEC. This conference is not the same it was 15 years ago.
disagree, both this guy & the one from Davidson seem to be pretty mobile for their size & possess basketball skills, with the ability to score from inside & outside. Remember, ccc had athletes, but they couldn't drop a quarter in the ocean

Exactly- we need people who can get their own shot

UK has always had 1 to 2 (at least) elite level players (1st round or even lotto first round nba picks) on its final four and national title rosters.

Who are those guys next season? Will be interesting to see what the final roster looks like.

We have 3 Fr coming in.
We have anywhere from 3-6 (probably 4-5) guys returning.
So, we are likely to add 4-6 from the portal.
Thus there will be 2-3 times that many, so 8-18 that get an offer.
And there will probably be 5 who Pope/staff "kick the tires on" and show some interest in, for every 1 that gets an offer, which means 40-90 guys we will "reach out to".

So, let's not get to excited about any one guy, unless/until there is a lot of smoke, or an actual visit by Pope/staff to meet the player or the player to come to campus.

yes, true at the guard & small forward positions, but these guys could replace Carr & play inside & outside
they could play center as well, as Carr has done
Exactly. We need two guard/small forwards on the floor at once who can get their own shot. That opens it up for everyone else. That's why we blew the cover off every single expectation when Butler and Robinson were both fully healthy. We haven't seen Pope use Carr that way, so the requirement is obviously not there. Not saying Pope couldn't use a the heck out of a stretch four who could get his own shot. Just not something we need to worry about having.

Yes, we can't Vandy (circa 2000's) our way to the top of the SEC nowadays. Unless these dudes can get us above Auburn and Alabama (I can't believe I'm typing that), then I'm not interested. Pope has to put a roster in place that puts us at #1, or fighting for it, in the SEC...not fourth or fifth. I have no interest in becoming Kansas 2.0

Good news is.....Coach Pope and staff will have time this year to evaluate. No rush.

He was hired like 4 days after the tournament ended. And I’d assume he was doing evaluations while at his old job as a …. College basketball coach.

Even Pope acknowledged there is a very different caliber of player he was reaching for at UK compared to ByU though. Guaranteed the wishlist changed once he was in blue.
And yet the guy that replaced him at BYU is bringing in or at least recruiting the type of talent we use to get at UK.

Yep....but not for UK until he got hired. Not hard to understand what I said.
