Right now, I can't see Duke being #2 over UNC. They have some questions in the post and at PG, even though Thornton has all the ingredients to be top notch. UNC, with all that experience, and I hate to say this, has all the parts in place for a good (FF/ NC) run.

Duke being ranked that high means they are just trying to set up the #1 vs #2 game in September.

I think they base it more on who they think will advance further in the tourney. They do a whole mock bracket (not as good as Lunardi) and actually predict who will be in the Final Four. So, they probably just have a lot of faith in Coach K making another run to the Final Four, something Williams hasn't done in a while.
