At 18-0 UK is a win at South Carolina and a win at Mizzou from moving to 20-0.
No UK team has started a season 20-0 since Rupps Runts went 23-0 to start the 1965-66 season.
That's 49 yrs ago.

Thanks. I've been wondering about that. Not so much for reminding me how old I am. That was the first season I followed the Cats. This team is on the verge of moving into some very rare territory regardless of what happens this spring.

Whats crazy about this stat is that UK has had 4 title teams ('78, '96, '98 and '12) that couldn't start 20-0.

An even crazier thought is that its been nearly 50 years since the winning-est program in college basketball history has started 20-0 and that's just halfway to a perfect season!

Same here BoulderCat I had just got back from overseas and was stationed in New Mexico (loved it there) and started following them that year. Can't believe it has been that long !

Yep, we're pretty much right where we were then. I though SC would be doing a bit better than they have to date, but it's a dangerous game IMO. Can't forget we lost down there last year to.

I believe the longest win streak in a great many years for UK was the 26 in a row the 2003 team won before Wade went off on a gimpy Bogans. That one hurt especially bad when Marquette went to the F4 and got blown out by KU.

Agreed; that was as painful a loss as the Georgetown Final 4.

Marquette went on to get smoked by Kansas by 94-61.

That USC game in '09 doesn't have the vibe of confidence that should have heading into this one. Can't overlook anyone going forward.

Thoght I heard someone the other night - Brad Nessler, maybe - say this is the 3rd best start in UK history. 2010, which started 19-0 came to mind. You mention 1966. Does that mean 1954 doesn't count? Isn't that the year we were 25-0?

Don't want to channel '66 at all. Still the worst loss ever (in the title game). IF this doesn't turn out better than that, it will be a similarly huge disappointment.

I remember watching UK's first loss in the '66 season. I watch it at a local gas station in our town on a small black and white TV. It was at Stokely Auditorium to the Tennessee Vols. The camera angles weren't the best in the world back in those days and I can recall as the game was ending and UT had a win secured some of the Vol fans in the back rows had their hands in front of one of the TV cameras, giving the number 1 sign. Their gym was loud and crazy that day. Ray Mears was in his heyday.

I remember the internet was buzzing with undefeated hopes with '66 team. It made Rupp so mad and he said so on twitter many times.

Chuckinden, wonder what Rupp would think about the internet, twitter, etc. I am thinking he wouldn't care for them!

1966 was a crazy year. People had a hard time transitioning to hologram high def televisions and flying cars. When the internet came out and lil coach cal posted his first tweet, the butterfly effect occurred and changed the whole world.

I'm with you
So do I, and every game leading up to winning the last game of the year too.
Its just in my blue blood to want to win em all.

Yeh, I was gonna' ask if anybody remembers who the loss was to but somebody already said it: UT

And therein lies the reason, or one of them, that I hate UT with a passion reserved for no one else in the SEC or the nation

Well, that and a lot of other reasons

Somebody on the radio today said that if UK won Saturday it would be the second-best start in school history but I don't think that is true when you take into account that undefeated team in the 50's (was it '58?) and of course The Runts

Sam, a win tomorrow ties '10 for 3rd best start.
66 went 23-o
54 went 25-0

If this team starts 26-0 they will own the best start in Kentucky history.
