Uhh Oh, Pelicans Fire Monty Williams

Every coach says that. No one is ever truthful about looking at other jobs while still employed

There's nothing to suggest Calipari is remotely interested in an NBA job at this time. The entire narrative has been constructed out of fiction.

Ever the "businessman..." Looks like we're throwing $8 million for 2022 at Cal to convince him to stay & keep loving us.
Here's hoping John Walls coach doesn't get fired next year....will cost us 10 more million for 2023.

It's not costing you anything since you contribute nothing.

If Coach Cal continues to go to Final Fours which is 4 out of 6 and 1 National Championship and 1 Runner-up he will continue to get contract extensions and raises from UK. I don't understand why fans don't understand this concept. Just because Cal didn't win the NC last year and go 40-0, he went 38-1 and another Final Four! Its hard to get to the Final fours and now we have made it 4 out of 6 and should be 5 out 6 if we didn't shoot 3/33 from 3 vs. WVU. MItch Barnhart knows how hard it is to get to the FF every year and that is huge what Cal has done in his 6 years. Most of you fans were sitting here 7 years ago after Tubby and Gillespie put us through 5 to 6 years of being 8or9 seeds in the tourney or going to the NIT, plus all was complaining how our recruiting had went down so much in their 6 or 7 years and getting 3 star players. I can't beleive fans don't remember those 5-6 years between Tubby and Gillespie that everyone on here was ready for a big change and Barnhart hit a Grand Slam with Coach Cal and his #1 or #2 Recruiting Classes in 6 years, 4 out of 6 FINAL FOURS, National Champs, Runner-up, Elite 8 and all these exciting players we see each year. Barnhart is going to get Coach Cal ahead of Coach K at Duke in Salary and right now Cal is approx $7.5 mil a year and last 3 years $8mil a year and that is why it will be soon that Coach Cal is at $10 mil here at UK because he is worth it and Barrnhart is making sure that Cal is making so much more than the NBA Head Coaches that they won't come after him. Right now in the NBA most teams pay $3-4 million a year except for the LA and NY teams. Steve Kerr at Golden State is at $25 mil for 5 years or $5mil year.I beleive Doc Rivers at LA Clippers and Spurs Head Coach are $7 or $8 mil and that is most in NBA right now.

I don't have to be to know you have no financial stake in this contract. At all.

And, if true, it has nothing to do with this thread, or anything else for that matter.

And I'd bet a dollar to a dime that I've spent many more $$$$ than you, traveling to UK basketball games over the years....and that has about zero to do with anything as well.

cool story tho...

why the hell would they fire the coach that just got em to the playoffs and appears to have the team headed in the right direction?

The NBA seems like a stupid circle jerk a lot of the times.
I like what you said why fire him he did a good job with those young men but we all know what time it is for some coaches. Pro and College.

You aren't even in the same stratosphere as me on money spent on UK sports.

Get an awful team to the playoffs(with one great player) and you're fired. BRILLIANT!!!!!

Coaching is hard to evaluate, but just getting a team to the playoffs, even in the West, cannot be immunization against firing. NO was in a tough situation (weird roster fits and injuries), but their defense was just not good. When you have Asik (although he's fallen off) and AD, you probably shouldn't be in the 20s in defensive efficiency.

If the GM didn't think that Monty was the long term answer, keeping him around as a reward for OKC's injuries (which is a big part of why they made the playoffs) seems foolish. I don't think he was as bad as his Twitter reputation (Haralabob kills him), but he was in the top 5 pre-season odds for getting fired for a reason.

Haralabob is a great NBA follow, so sharp. Nate Duncan is probably the best for in game stuff if you don't already follow him.

I admit I've been negative or realistic(IMO) in my posts since April but it all had to do with the last game. Normally I'm ok after the season ending about a week latter but I still get mad to this day when I think about the Wisconsin game and then how things have happened since. I'm starting to get over it but not there yet.

Although I don't see what about my posts in this thread are negative. Can I not talk about an opening for Cal just because I've been negative recently? I'm guessing if I were a sunshine pumper then it wouldn't matter that I started this thread?

I'm not saying any of that is a smartass way, You're one of the few reasonable and knowledgeable posters on the board so I'm just legitimately asking.
I don't think it's fair to say just after that game.

You even admitted yourself that you mostly posted during the season to complain after games that were too close. I like you more personally than some of your eeyore buddies, but do you not get why people would build negative associations with a fellow fan who primarily shows up to whine about stuff?

Ok technically you're right. I've been pretty much %100 negative since the loss. Also most of the time prior I would show up just to vent after a close game. But during that time I still had some positive posts thrown in.

And yea I can see how many don't like me. All they see is one side of me. The side that needs to vent so I come here and post.

There's been a lot to whine about the last 40 days. Guess that's why I've been here so much lol.

Some of the experts are saying NO did the right thing but I don't see it. With what he has, Monty did a fantastic job this year. After CP3 left, their "star" was frickin Eric Gordon. But their record has gotten better each of the last 3 years and finally got back to the playoffs despite having, aside from Davis, a mediocre squad at best.

From what I understand, his firing wasn't as much to do with this seasons result as it is the belief that he is a weak bench & x's & o's guy....but mostly the belief that he is not the coach to get them to the next level & the championship level they want to attain.

They will get someone better even with the possibility of AD being there only a short time.
