Our DL got owned by UGA's line, excepting the excellent 4th down stops. Their size and athleticism was dominant and was the primary reason for their relatively easy win. McIntosh averaged 7.5 ypc and seemed to get three yards before contact as our DL got pushed back consistently. Only Walker seemed to pass the eye test vs. their OL.

GA ran for well over 200 yards, McIntosh with a career high(seems to be a common event, a GA RB rushing for a career high vs UK). Yeah, they got pushed around pretty much all day although Rogers, Dinkins and Walker had modest success at times. It's what you get with 4*-5* athletic OLs.

Yeah I'm a little perplexed seeing comments about the defense being lights out or "great."

Well, UGA averages 36pts and almost 500 yds of offense this season. UK held then well below those numbers, I'd say it was a pretty good day for then.

UK gave up more rushing than we'd like, but it's because UGA is freaking good, and the defensive game plan was to prevent big plays, not shut down the run game totally.

Unbelievable how anyone could complain. Short of one drive where our lbs overran some plays, we stopped most everything they threw at us. Even after a backbreaking int.

I don’t know the all the specifics of OL play but watching UGAs line during the second half was fascinating. They pulled multiple positions seemingly every time creating running lanes that ebbed and flowed all along the line of scrimmage. Their rbs just had the right amount of patience to pick the seam and get through it. Seems like our OL strategy is to try to brute strength objects outta the way and hope CR can take minimal hits and somehow get through.

UGAs OL while big and strong, played smart and leveraged while ours doesn’t seem to.

Yeah, that was sort of the point of my post...even though we've made strides in the trenches, there is still an uncomfortable gap between us and UGA.

Just be thankful Kirby took the TE pass game out of the playbook yesterday.

We did not have a LB that could cover any of their TE and Kirby knew it.

Some of our fans just don't recognize mercy when a coach with class extends it to us.

They threw the te wheel again they scored with last year. It was open but overthrown. Bowers was blanketed all game and hammered the pass he caught at the end of the half.

Why are so many people so mad that we played well?

Not mad at all. If you have watched Georgia any at all this year you would have a better understanding of what took place yesterday.

Kirby accomplished what he wanted to get done. Win the game without getting starters injured.

GA 6'7" 300 lb. TE ran away from Jackson like he was standing in concrete. Yes, Stetson overthrew him on the play, but he was WIDE OPEN.

Tell me why you think Kirby never went back to that play all game?? It was there to be made all day long.
Bennett ran QB option one time for about 30 yards. Didn't run it again. Any idea why???

Agreed... GA ONLY had 1 touchdown !

There's plenty to complain about, but not Defense from yesterday. Yes, in other games our interior D-Line has been pedestrian (against the run, pass rush), but yesterday was good.

False. It was a schemed wheel route that we misplayed. It's a good concept that got us last year too. That te (Washington?) is a beast but he isn't running away from Wallace. Bowers maybe but not him

Other than one drive I thought our DL did pretty good. They collapsed for some reason on that one drive but the other drives we had some guys show up well. Thought Saunders, Rogers and Dinkens in particular looked good.

They were "good against the run" yesterday?

I mean, GA should have had 13 points if not for the refs not letting the clock run right before half. What more on D could you ask for against the #1 team on the defensive side?

Did you see how Georgia played it close to the vest? That's because they knew they could and that they didn't have to open it up. That's why I said all week that the score would be relatively close. We were never a threat to win that game. It was a very strange game---and quite honestly a complete bore.

I know the wind effected their passing some. But if you have watched GA much their QB normally hurts you a lot. And we contained that pretty well I thought. Could be right about them playing it close to the vest some but can't deny we made some plays when they did pass and the QB did not run wild like he is used to. We had a lot of guys make plays regardless in the run and passing game.

We had no chance winning with an offense like we have. May be one of the worst in the country and in the SEC not going to beat anybody with the way it has deteriated. So considering how much the D has to be on the field because of the offense have to give them credit for at least putting up a fight.

Watch the tape. We do not have a LB other than Jones who can cover a wheel route.

Still didn't answer the question.

Why do you think Kirby never went back to that play??

We play zone and lbs don't cover wheel routes by design. Someone blew the assignment just like last year.

Iirc He went back to it. Luckily we covered it later.

I think both can be true.

I think there is no doubt GA wanted to get enough points up to win the game without risking injuries for SEC Champ game next week. GA kept their play calls simple, limited hits to Bennett either in the passing or running game, and didn’t fully utilize their TEs.

On the other hand, UK could only defend the plays that GA ran (not the ones GA didn’t run) and in that regard, played a very solid defensive game. In the plays GA did run, we held them enough to only give up 16 points and stopped them on the goal line and a couple other short yardage situations. I don’t think anyone would argue that GA was trying not to score on 4th and goal from the 1, could have dialed up any play in the playbook and we stopped the one GA chose.

Sure they were trying to score but it was an odd and unimaginative call.

Every coach in the country lines it up and tries to power it in in that situation. Was it unimaginative? Sure, but Kirby wasn't trying to be cute, he was trying to put the game away by running a safe play that works 80% of the time.
