UGA LB- Kentucky reaches out

Grumpy, OT....tell me if this story was true: Back in the days of GA recruiting Herschal Walker, coaches could hand carry scholarship papers to a prospect to sign(that's no longer allowed, no coaches present now. Rule change was said to be because Barry Switzer would have his stretch limo parked in a kid's 'driveway or land a helicopter in some kid's backyard). Anyway, on signing day GA coaches headed out and Vince Dooley supposedly told Mike Cavan: "If you don't sign Walker, don't come back." Heard that for decades, don't know if true. What say you?

I know he is no longer with us but he was an AU grad, Steve Jobs. If he or any members of his family donated to AU rest assured some of it was dedicated to recruiting by AU administration.

Yep, all but gone, Nebraska coach told him he was firing his uncle if he didn't come, not a 100% raise out of it.

So they guaranteed him to start, keep his uncle on as coach and gave him a big NIL. It is what it is, he wasn't going to start for us, and we weren't matching NIL.
Jobs didn’t go to Auburn. Tim Cook their current CEO is an Auburn grad.

Cavan supposedly spent te winter and spring sitting in front of HW's house because he didn't sign forweeks after signing day. CU was big in his recruitment and were known to hide kids out so other coaches couldn't find them. Things were sure different then. Bear Bryant wouldstart a program so he could hand out scholarships for football players and is why a 2 sport athlete on scholarship counts toward football numbers, provided football was one of the sports.

Is UGA about to lose its 5 star QB commitment?

The reason is huge NIL UGA wouldn't match, quaranteed to start which Kirby doesn't do and he didn't want to see his uncle get fired, who is the OL coach at Nebraska. Kid has committment issues for sure, went to 4 different HS and committed to 3 different colleges
And who knows how long he will stay at Nebraska?

He has officially flipped, he is a good prospect, wish we could have kept him, but he wasn't going to be guaranteed the job. Beck just announced he was coming back. Might miss him in 25 but he wasn't going to see the field in Athens.

Has this young man made his decision yet?

Also, it's absolutely historical that people believe that Nebraska was going to fire the kids Uncle if he didn't go to there. Give up an INCREDIBLE chance to play QB at UGA and if he played and won get drafted vs go get his ass kicked inside out at Nebraska and be lucky to get invited to the combine. Makes total sense to me...

There is no way in hell I would choose Nebraska over Georgia, I don't care how much playing time and NIL they are offering. Nebraska might have been a college football destination 20+ years ago. But it sure as hell isn't anymore. They'll never be able to attract enough top talent to compete with the upper echelon of the Big Ten, and that will only get worse once the conference expansion is completed. This kid is making a terrible mistake flipping to Nebraska. He might get more NIL and early PT, but it will cost him on the backend.

He will not finish out at Nebraska. He’s going there for early PT then dipping.

Believe what you want. Doest chance how things went down.

Haha, we Kentucky fans told each other the same thing about Tyler Barron 4 yrs ago...that Pruitt would fire his staffer dad if he had signed with his preferred destination, UK .

Riola picked Nebraska because he can start there in 2024, but not at Georgia with Beck likely to return. Really nit any more complicated than that.

One thing is for sure, none of the “poor state” excuses are gonna hold a lick of water with me as it seems like Auburn and Mississippi are two of the schools leading the way as far as NIL dollars.
”Supposedly “ , YELLOWOOD is a huge contributor to Auburns NIL . I don’t believe we have the corporate funding that some other schools have.

He was never going to start as a frosh at UGA, he knew that from the beginning. The only thing that changed was his uncle went from about to be fired to getting a 100% raise within the last 10 days. His family had Kirby and a couple other coaches for the in home on the 8th, along with a couple other recruits, everything was fine. Next thing out is the uncle getting huge raise and a visit over this weekend. You think a guy about to be fired getting a huge raise and his nephew suddenly deciding Nebraska is the place to be is just coincindal? All this after his family bought a house near Athens to watch him play?

But you use all you can in recruiting, hopefully his uncle's ol doesn't get him beat up too much.

Go out and find it. Figure it out. Make it happen. When the success of the program depends on it, you don’t have another choice. Instead of making excuses, Louisville was able to get adidas to fund them and pay for a bunch of the players they have gotten. If Nike is unwilling to do the same, we need to go shopping. This is one example of the many things that could be done. But if we continue to be sabotaged on the administrative level like this, we will never be able to do what Ole Miss and Auburn are doing.

His uncle coached at OSU before Nebraska, right? Why was he about to get fired?

I watched a few of their early games. They looked a lot like last season, but with better QB okay would have won a few more games, IMO.

I wish DR had stuck with us, but he decided to go in a different direction. He transferred to by far the most talented team in Georgia. 3 5* kids in 24 class and several other players who will be signing with P4 schools this fall. The 25 class will have multiple 5* in it as well. All together 25+ kids on 24 team will sign with P4 or whatever it turns into. You would think they would roll threw their schedule blowing teams out to a state championship. That wasn't the case, hD several 1 score games and was sent home from playoffs at 2nd round. Just wasn't what I was expecting, think the talent level in the state caught him off by surprise.
