Heading to Athens for a game while checking out a retirement area (Lake Oconee). UK fan, so definitely not an UGA fan. Never been. Looked around for a few UGA message boards to ask the same question but couldn't find any that didn't require subscription. Anyone know of any must dos while there for a game? Pre/post game drink/eat spots...that sort of stuff. Thanks!

Probably spend all day figuring out where to park.

Seriously @Grumpyolddawg where do 80K+ fans park around that stadium? Where do they tailgate? doesn't look like many options around there to me.

I am not able to attend games any longer, and with all the new construction parking and tailgating spots are hard to come by. I don't know if German attends or not. My knees and concrete are not on good terms.

As for lake Oconee, check the millage rate for the county. We have a cabin in Hancock County, had the property for nearly 40 years, the millage rate is 49.5, highest the state allows, in one of the poorest counties in the state. Another lake just down the river from Oconee, Lake Sinclare is also very nice, near a small college town that has lots of eateries and drinking establishments and would be my pick of the 2.

Check out the bar and restaurant scene in downtown Athens. Is starts right across the street from the North/Historic campus. Easy walking to and from the stadium. Ridiculous number of bars/tap rooms/eating places in downtown. I always park downtown (plenty of options) and do the pre and post game down there.

Thank you! This is of more interest to me than the tailgating. I prefer for someone else to do the work for me. Lol

Thank you sir! I will check all of those out. That county, for sure, is an interesting dynamic. I will readily admit, a HUGE part of our reason for Oconee is all the golf in Reynolds. The other is the close proximity to pro sports in Atlanta (although I NEED to be far enough away not to get the experience of living "close" to Atlanta) and major college athletics in Athens. By retirement time we will have a 12 yr old and she LOVES all live sporting events. It's always been one of my goals to let her experience it all.

I guess GA real estate taxes are a bit better than here in MO. I just looked up taxes on a $750,000 list price house inside Reynolds. 21 taxes were approx $3000. My house here in MO is reasonably comparable and I paid approx $5500 in 22. And we aren't even in the "expensive" counties near STL or KC.
