Good lord this guy is perfect for UK, I have had a man-crush on him since I wrote this article on how much we would love him back in June of 2014. Coach Cal was recounting his recruitment and told Josh Peter of USA today the following:

Tyler Ulis, a sophomore and Kentucky's starting point guard, could be a first-round pick in the 2016 NBA draft, said Calipari, who recalled Ulis' recruitment.

"Everybody said, ‘You're going to get a great four-year guard, this is what you need,' " Calipari said. "So he comes in (for a recruiting visit and) I said to him, ‘Tyler, look, if you want to be here four years, don't come here. Go somewhere else. We don't do that. We're here preparing everyday to chase dreams.'

"He looked at me and said, ‘I'm ready to sign. I was tired of hearing that (expletive), too.' "

LOL and some people think he will be here 3-4 years . He will be the best pg in college this season and then go in the top 30 or so of the draft . Will shoot around 55% from 3 , 85% from the line and have about 5 dimes to every 1.8 tos this year. Kid is special.

I agree 100%. I did, however, overhear Drew Weiner this morning discussing that the Cards will have the best backcourt in all of CBB hands down. Should be interesting to see how that plays out for em.

You just have to love Cal. Talk about an amazing sales pitch. Hell I read that and signed my computer monitor. How can you say no to UK and Cal. Magic.

Pitino's pitch: If you want to come here you will actually be stuck here for 4 years and then you will find a job flipping burgers. L1C4

Seriously, does Cane even watch basketball?

Uh, love Tyler Ulis, but 55 percent from three? So 15 percentage points better than Steph Curry and JJ Redick? You might be expecting a weeeee bit too much;)

Would that be the highest three point percentage in history for a guard? According to this, since 96, the highest we've seen is 47%.

http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/leaders/fg3-pct-player-career.html

So you think he will shoot eight percentage points better than the best shooter we've seen in 20 years? And by the same number of percentage points that separates the #1 shooter in the last 20 years from the #250 best shooter?

:)

55%???????????????????

Jesus. that would be like best of all time?

Edit: no... it would be 2nd best. but still come in off that branch he shot 43% last year

That was Career... I looked up single season and saw that this guy was 56.03% for an entire season 65/116 and 5% higher than any other player in history. That is a crazy anomaly considering he shot 44% next season. THis just happened 2 years ago

55% would be astronomical but we've had two guys since '96 that shot better than 47% from 3 for their careers and neither are on that list (Cameron Mills and Doron Lamb). Travis Ford shot 53% in 1993 with over one hundred makes. No reason Tyler can't hover around 50% if his teammates out enough pressure on the defense.

True. But still... yikes.

Now, to be fair... he STILL wouldn't be as good as the seven foot Duke wonder, Marshall Plumlee, who is shooting 100% from three for his CAREER. Woot woot!

Put the pressure on Cat fans, put the pressure on. Nothing like UK fans to just squeeze the life out of expectations to where there is no place to go but down. I'm a glass three quarters full guy myself but geeeeeeeeezzzzzz.......

Anything over 40% is excellent, so I'll figure on him shooting between 40-45% again this season.

Shooting north of 45 is possible, but not likely, IMHO.

50+ is unrealistic.

We're moreso laughing at Cane's lack of basketball knowledge then putting restrictions on what Ulis can or can't accomplish.

Anything less than 70% from three is unacceptable and would show serious regression imo.

How many 5'9" guys have been drafted in the 1st round? He's a great talent, I just don't see teams wanting to give this guy a guaranteed first contract due to his physical stature. 2nd round, yeah, I can agree with. 1st, just not seeing it.

It's hard enough to get drafted in the first round if you are 6' 1" and under. Plus he will need to test out amazing in the agility and vertical leap to have a shot

55 percent from 3 is a stretch. I love Tyler but 55 percent is really high. Not doughting the young man. Lamb shot 44 percent I believe and I think he is a better shooter than Tyler.

oh definitely bro. SB nation.

Guarantee that Ulis gets picked over Frank Mason. Because "Frankly" Mason isn't worth a NBA contract. Never will be either.

Salim Stoudamire was up near 55 for much of the season before cooling off to around 51%.

He meant in all of CBB in the state... behind UK.

And maybe 1 or 2 other schools.

This pitch exhibits exactly how Cal first separated himself from all other recruiters in the one and done era. He was ahead of the curve in understanding that today's top talents don't actually want to play college basketball, but instead view it as something they're temporarily forced to do before they can start making money off their talent.

Other coaches lingered in denial pitching kids as if it was still the 80s and 90s CBB world, whereas Cal's pitch was bluntly honest about what he knew these kids were really thinking. It took awhile, but other coaches are finally catching on to what Cal knew a decade earlier.
