Tyler Summit resigns after getting player pregnant

not that i'm condoning...but I believe this may occur a little bit more regularly than folks would like to admit...especially in female sports...

just read a story about a female coach marrying her female assistant...I imagine that as we progress into a more socially liberal society these things will come out more and not really cause a stir...

In the era of love who or what you want...guys being girls and vice versa...use what ever bathroom pleases you...I think we have to look at this as not a major deal...

he is a young man with young man impulses...so it's not as if it is some 60 year old coach...but even then if society says love who you want even if it's just for a night, then you can't really cry about age...so long as everything was consensual...if he was just joe nobody and came across the girl at a bar and had a heated evening...it would be nothing...

this just happens to be seen as taboo because he is a coach...and I would agree that it is probably inappropriate and deserving of him walking away...but scandal of the century hardly...

think of it as a work place encounter...

and I think for him growing up in the women's sports world he probably has seen or at least heard of enough hush hush type relationships that it might not have seemed like a huge deal to him...

again trying pat him on the back...just looking at it as something that probably occurs...

Being a coach is like being a teacher. When you are in a position of power dealing with young people (yes college kids are young people), it is not appropriate to abuse the trust and power that you have from these young people. If you are just a 30 something guy at a bar, have sex with all of the 18-22 year olds you want. But when parents entrust their kids to you so that you can coach them and help them mature at a time in their life that they are vulnerable, you can't have sex with them, consensual or not. It isn't really consensual if you are in a position of power over them.

It was such an idiotic idea to give a 23-year-old kid a head coaching job. That AD should lose their job for that alone.

You do realize we put men and women in charge of soldiers, sailors, and airmen at that age...I was commissioned at the age of 22. Leading a platoon brings far more responsibility than coaching a freaking basketball team, especially when it's infantry. Lead by example. Apparently this one didn't get the memo on when and where it is appropriate to make the bank deposit.

Being 23 years old CAN'T be the official reason for not giving someone a job, infact it can't "officially" be a factor by law. Being 23 means one wouldn't have alot of experience, that can be a factor, but you can't say you didn't hire him because of his age.

she should have utilized the "zone" instead of man to man. According to most here that's the best way to to prevent a "basket"

Man, that notre dame point guard was something else. Only time I've ever willingly watched women's ball.

Rape of subordinates in the military has been documented on tv shows such as dateline , 60 minutes among others . So saying the military puts young men in charge doesn't bolster the idea that it's a fine idea when it comes to sexual conduct . At 23 I think it's a good age for fighting a war , testosterone filled aggression with reservoirs of energy is a good match .

However that same quality is a cluster touch waiting to happen when breeding stock is introduced , at that point young men are the worst ones that could be in charge . Any mature male would tell you that putting them in charge of women would be a better idea now than when they were young , sex is your primary goal in life at that age or at least you think about it more than anything else .

Rape and sexual misconduct isn't a military only issue nor is it confined to a certain age group. Some individuals just don't have what it takes to be a leader regardless of age. And it not just males that take advantage of positions of power, you can see that in how many women get arrested for having relations with their students.

That school could have hired 10 other 23 year old males and never had an issue. They just happened upon a turd with this hire.

He's probably the only twenty something year old in women's team coaching college bb , strictly because of his mother . It's a horrible hire at that age , males in their twenties don't turn down poon when their coaching a defacto sorority . Too young and loaded with hormones , he's the only example and it happened . It would happen with the majority of coaches at that age .

I totally agree. I taught at the college level at 22 and 23. The temptation was strong, and the opportunity abundant. I once had a coed proposition me for a grade, right on my desk. I couldn't throw her out fast enough. My own personal integrity ruled it out. Not to mention the codified rules. There were plenty of other fish in the sea. Shame on him. My thought process was much the same as yours. To me the people of Colorado entrusted me, and I wasn't going to violate that trust. If his mom can understand what he did I'm sure she's ashamed.

Then explain why I have countless friends who in their 20's were leading, either as NCO's, officers, high school head/assistant or college assistant coaches, companies, etc , women and managed to keep it in their pants?

Most people understand the responsibility of their position....others not so much. Chances are integrity, ethics, and code of conduct were just words that sound great in speeches to this guy.

Not as many gay women in sports as you would think. My daughter played college ball and I expected her to be disadvantaged without all the extra testosterone. But we only had one gay chick the last two years, although the coach was flaming. Her college degree was in Queer Studies so it was obvious. Maybe that's why our team sucked, I don't know. Even the other teams at the school didn't have as many gay chicks as I thought.

Word is no body has a bun in the oven...

of course, that doesn't mean the deed wasn't done....or that there isn't another oven baking...

That's not the right girl. At least according to prevailing rumors, the player he reportedly knocked up is a blonde girl named Brooke Pumroy. Not the one in your link.

However, interestingly enough, both of those girls transferred out of Marquette to follow him to La Tech.

Oh, go play in some traffic already. Calipari sends 19 and 20 year olds to the NBA for legal jobs and promising careers and our program gets castrated by the national media for it. Tyler Summit puts a young woman in a situation where the rest of her life may be permanently altered simply because he can't keep his dick away from one of his players / student-athletes and a UK fan frames an image of modern virtue and beauty. Mercy.

Summit has a professional responsibility to these young ladies that forbids on all principles of acceptable human conduct sexually gratifying himself with any one of them. Indeed, a very major deal. Louisiana Tech has wasted no time erasing his name, and will take all action necessary to ensure this pathetic, vile man leaves town humiliated to the maximum extent.

Also this: in addition to one of the most shameless posts on Rafters in some Era, the string of words "a little bit more regularly" phrase in magnificent contradiction to one another that the reader is allowed to understand every word that follows will likely be pure crap and stupid. This sort of thing is not "regular." Yet Tyler Summit is that "little bit" . . . disgusting to an otherwise honorable profession.

There were rumors, but I was lucky enough to know the facts about why she left. Problem is that I wouldn't have to kill you if I told you, I would have to kill myself. And as much as I would like to spill the beans, I don't want to that much.

This is must know information. I'm calling you out, and I'm confident in your ability to refrain personal harm. Just get drunk and deal with the hangover. A great tradition for guilt. That or I've got some dogs on my property you can shoot. Also a great tradition. so give it up.

I agree with most of your post with the exception of the Tyler "put a young woman in a situation" comment. He is a scum bag for abusing his position and doing this while he has a family, but she is equally responsible for being pregnant. She isn't pregnant because he couldn't keep his d*ck in pants, she's pregnant because she couldn't keep it out of hers.

I don't recall you riding in on an ass...so forgive me if i don't lay down some palms...

spare me the sermon...

yeah...a 25 year old couldn't keep his peter in his pants...shocking news there...natural instinct overpowered work place etiquette...

folks are just going to have to get over the fact that we don't live in the rainbows and butterflies world that some have apparently been lead to believe...

I don't know how many times I have to say it...I am not condoning it...I agree that it is inappropriate....He deservedly has been relieved of his duty and shamed...

i don't give a rats ass about Summit...LA Tech...or who people decide they want to get busy with so long as everything is consensual and no harm comes of it...

Bo Ryan just had a little mess swept under the rug...not an athlete directly under his control, but somebody in a lesser position...

Men in positions of power indulge...we've had a couple presidents do so...it goes on in every business sector...happens in every town...even college towns...even lexington kentucky...hell we had a coach few years back that liked to bop co-eds...I know professors indulge...

If you think for one minute that Tyler Summit is the first coach or even athletic department official to play that game, you are sadly mistaken...

I don't know who initiated, but let's not pretend that a female athlete in her prime couldn't play seductress...either way, the tango is for two...

as i've said...it may not be right...but it's hardly front page scandal of the century material in today's world...

she is equally responsible

for starters, I'm hearing that there may be no pregnancy involved. Second, I refuse to agree with your comment. In the natural world where both men and women exist, consider me as somebody who will never demote himself to female status by saying a woman bears equal responsibility for a shared activity, particularly the most important activity, that which begins the process of bringing new life into this world.

Agree on nepotism reasons. Ad gave this snot nosed kid a job after only two years of being an assistant at a school that wasn't that good to begin with. Shouldn't be handing out 175,000 state government jobs based only on mommas accomplishments.
