Its Washington’s 5th SEC Frosh. of the week award this season and the 4th in a row equals Booker’s 4 week run in 2015.

Dude is a force in basketball.
Not flashy just very steady and heady.

To think we missed on Kennedy Chandler, Hunter Salis, and Nolan Hickman to only end up with a better player than all 3 is a big win for Cal. First UK player to win 4 straight sec players of the week and only 4th ever SEC player to do it, joining John Wall, Nerlens Noel, and Booker. We better enjoy him while he’s here. TyTy may go down as an all time great UK guard under Cal if UK makes a deep tournament run

Heck, was there a player, regardless of class, that played better last week?

He wasn't just the best freshman in the SEC, he was the best player period.

One of the most likable collection of players Cal has assembled at UK since he's been here. Love watching these kids play together.

Without looking at his stats.. I'm kind or surprised Jabari Smith hasn't won it in this time frame. Obviously Ty has been KILLING it!

Who else are the top freshman in the SEC?

First time since Booker. No way Booker should’ve been on the bench watching the Harrison twins piss away that 2015 game against Wisconsin 😡

Booker was streaky as ****, as much as it makes you anti-Cal people upset. We ran with the lineup that we ran with all year. How do you NOT play Aaron Harrison after the previous sessions heroics?

Because we had KAT and didn’t need the Harrison twins heroics. The first shot clock violation they committed I would’ve pulled both and put Ulis and Booker in. Instead they stayed in and committed 2 more shot clock violations.

all UK fans should be glad he decommitted from Creighton
Perfect example of some of the errors recruiting analysts have made recently imo. I know TyTy came on late but he's hands down better than any guard in the class.

Boston being that high
Askew being 5 star
Sales and Hickman were both ranked ahead of him until late???
Now Chandler is good

I don’t think Chandler is overrated at all or should say a massive downgrade, he’s got game. I’d rather have TyTy so I’m happy and love that kid.

*CO freshman of the week. Although I do support giving it to someone else other than Jabari every week. It's like MJ and Tom Brady - you don't have to give them MVP every year. We know. Good for the Kentucky freshman to pick one up.

I think a lot of blame is on Cal for that one. It’s a hard sell to say you shouldn’t have the experience of the twins in a close late game scenario. I personally think Cal’s stall ball shenanigans and not feeding Townes are the reasons we got 3 mind numbing shot clock violations in a row.

I was at that game with my parents and grandpa (dad won some upper level lotto tickets) and it was heartbreaking. Some MSU fans tried to hound us on our way to the car. I just calmly said whose your team? When they said the Spartans I just said “hm never heard of em.” Not the best comeback but I was pretty down.

Might not need miracle last second shots and heroics if the best players are on the court.

Booker was shot 3-6 50% in the game. The real injustice was having Ulis on the bench at the end. He would’ve gotten the ball to Townes in the final minutes.

Tyler’s offensive rating was 161 in that game. To put that into perspective Townes was the 2nd most efficient at 128.

Covid had a lot to do with him rising late . There were no summer games for guys to improve their stock at the time .

What's even more surprising is how TyTy has a lot more competition in the SEC for the award than the previous guys. Auburn has the #1 projected draft pick and Tennessee has Kennedy leading their team.

Booker's main competition was his own teammates - Towns and Lyles. Only Devin Robinson of Florida even came close to being in that 5-star ranking and only Wade Baldwin even started among SEC freshmen.

Noel's competition, similarly, was Poythress and Goodwin. (Carrera and Frazier ??)

Wall had to contend with Cousins of course, but did have John Jenkins at Vandy and Kenny Boynton at Florida starting in the league as freshmen, who were both alright.

Still nothing like Jabari Smith and Kennedy Chandler, among opposing teams.

SO incredibly happy and proud of TyTy and OT for snagging these USBWA Freshman of the Week honors in the media, cant be thankful enough they are ours! Both young men deserve the national recognition & they have worked hard to earn from their peers and coaches, family, friends, and even rivals ?!?!? LOL !

Just Sayin', Vol fans! even my Vol girlfriend is saying ... "yeah, you were right about K.C. [Chandler] but you were MORE right about TyTy and Tshiebwe .... and how in the hell does he make rebounding so damned SEXY ???" and then proceeds to give me this funny eye....

I say ... you can't fool me, You're a good girl! Just stay away from the young big studly types and let them do what they do best, though, baby! Eh, what can I say, she's much younger than jaded ole' me.

And seriously speaking, it's been a pleasure this year watching them all come together and grow and experience yet another journey only BBN fans get to truly call their OWN.

I would also just add that the entire teams' unselfish, mature, high basketball IQ, respect for the game and swagger is a credit to the entire team. Simply because they know what they can do now, and none of them need to be Superman out there to make them ALL look really great together. This is how modern basketball should be played. Kudos to the entire team and hopefully more players can be given credit where credit is due.

PS - My 6th man of the year in all of CBB at this point is Damion Mintz. I want to see them all get some well earned recognition. He lends awesome chemistry for this team in so many areas not necessarily in the stat line.

Go Big Blue !
