(1) we have the perimeter defense/toughness to guard any team. one thing that worried me about our team was our lack of strength and size on the wings. what happens we we play a michigan state, unc etc? i remember thinking this before the duke game too. well a&m has the best combination of wings in house & jones in the sec. both of them can score off the dribble from the perimeter on in, and have shown this versus good competition through the year. yet, besides a few open threes that jones walked into (three early on), we shut them down. they shot a combined 11-32! briscoe, murray and willis played strong and we were all over them. in fact, the real mismatch was starting to become humphries, because they didn't have a big guy that could get him out of position for rebounds.
(2) ulis & murray & briscoe are indeed as valuable to have as we imagined possible, especially for march style basketball. their scoring alone was enough to almost win this game in regulation. we play good defense and they imo are efficient enough along with willis to give us the points we need to win. early in the year we would look lost when one of our guys was going one-on-one late clock. we would force and miss shots in these situations. now even down to the final seconds we are moving without the basketball and looking to break the defense down in order to get an open shot for someone, or a foul. they know how to probe and almost commit without getting player control fouls a lot better. we can strike quick in the half court. and although they get screwed often, ulis and murray are starting to get respect from the refs when they drive it. it's almost becoming weird when they don't score 20 now.
let me add...we are the best team in the sec. i could't say it for absolute certain until i saw this game. i thought we handled them fine, and would have won had we had all our players, even if they were better at the line.
