I get really torn about twitter from time to time, there is literally no middle ground there... It seems anything that happens on twitter is either the best or the worst thing that has ever happened...

people are either getting pounded into the ground with hate, or lifted up with utmost praise... People post so much throughout the game, especially some analyst, they typically end up contradicting themselves with the ultimate outcome.

It's also strange to me that guys like Jeff Goodman etc... Use twitter as a personal hate platform for 18-20 some year old kids...

Do y'all think twitter is here to stay? Or will it become a flash in the pan with time?

I think it's like most anything else, once it gets too big for it's own good, it tends to collapse at some point... I also believe that twitter is hurting true analysis of college basketball, and just a place to spew off personal vendettas or hype up whoever is "trending", what are y'all's thoughts on this subject?

If it does go away, there'll just be some new way to send "I'm kind of thinking of you, and some other people" messages to take its place. The current world does not seem to be tired of instant, and often meaningless, communications... so, unless some kind of lawsuit lottery legalities affect it one of these days, it'll stick around.

It's not my kind of thing... then again, I'm a guy who still has a VHS movie collection.

Twitter makes watching the games a whole different experience. I don't follow the players, etc., but I do follow journalists and reporters who provide commentary and different insights that I might no otherwise get. Sometimes those guys are courtside and they see and hear things that I don't when watching on TV.

I do not read twitter during games, mostly because I trust my own opinions of the game more than most of who I am reading. I don't need people to tell me what I am already seeing.

You do not realize that damage things like twitter have done to this generation until you try having a conversation with someone and they can't look you in the eyes from keeping them on their phone

If you're like me, someone who is stuck at home with people (family) who aren't quite as interested in the game as you, then Twitter is perfect. It has far surpassed message boards, I believe, for the purpose of discussing the game and hearing other people's viewpoints.

It feels like it's never going away.

Then again if you'd have told me in 1995 that music videos would be ancient history in twenty years I'd have looked at you funny.

I like Twitter but I still think message boards, where you can actually engage with people, are far more interesting.

I think college basketball writers get a disproportionate amount of hate sometimes from fans, but I also think there are some--Goodman--who like to get people stirred up. Goodman and Gottlieb definitely toe that ethical line in the college game. The age-old adage is that the players should be left out of it; the coaches are fair game but the players are not appropriate in terms of critical fodder.

Twitter has broken down that line in some ways--but then again, Jerry Tipton crosses the line sometimes as well.

Twitter is only as good or bad as you make it, even Oscar Combs loves the "Twitter machine". It is just a way to interact with other fans and get news very quickly. It does have a bad side though, believe it or not the internet has a lot of idiots on it, but at least you can block them on twitter! lol

I think most of the players/coaches get a kick out of fans following them, just don't be weird towards them. Like Vince Marrow said today, Twitter had an impact on him staying at UK as he saw all the support for him from the fans on Twitter, it can add a positive vibe to the UK program. So it really does have its good uses, it just depends on how you decide to use it.

This country is going to hell in a hand basket and no I don't expect younger (below round 24) people to understand why. Social media is really doing damage in so many ways. i was eating with some of my family at central BBQ the other day and we were discussing it. Looking around at half of the resturaunt, people weren't really engaging, just looking down at their phones. I have fired 8 teenagers and early 20's kids from my clothing store in the last 2 1/2 years due to their phones and social media. America is becoming very "zombie" like. It's only going to get worse as these younger generations become completely ignorant and detached from real life. I'm 29, and I'm glad I was Born when I was. I love the fact that I grew up, even through high school, and no one had cell phones. It was great and actually has given me a great leg up on these people that live in cyber space. A lot of them will wake up 40 year old losers.

I finally got on Twitter a couple years ago because it is by far the fastest way to get news. Whether it's sports news or any other kind, people will shoot something out on Twitter before typing up an article and it just spreads across the internet. That all being said, you have to look at what Twitter is. Every message is limited to a small amount of characters, and thousands of tweets go out every minute. People have very small attention spans so those tweets that are in the extreme one way or the other are the ones that are going to get noticed. If people want to read a well thought out statement, they'll look at online articles... or catsillustrated

Twitter is good is because you can get quick news blurbs in a hurry but it has it's disadvantages. I love it from a sports side. You can find out in just a few minutes updates from all over the country. It's great for Fantasy Football junkies like myself who need player injury updates.

The disadvantages is you are limited to 180 characters so it causes horrible shorthand and grammar. Tweets can miss their meaning in a hurry because you can't explain yourself. I don't know how many times I have gone through a timeline to see a reporter trying to defend something they said only to scroll down to see something very harmless that a few jackals took over and attacked them on. Any social media, message board, whatever can take the same advice when in the heat of the moment. Would you say the same thing to this person if you were in a room with them? If you don't or wouldn't, then don't post it, tweet it, whatever. It's become to common to just post thoughts in your head.

Sometimes Social Media when it comes to sports feels like you're at a bar with your buddies watching the game. You're just saying all these thoughts that you would say to 2 or 3 people but instead it's everyone.

I think eventually twitter will be it's own demise, the instant gratification that we crave in today's society will prove to be so watered down and chaotic that you will eventually not be able to sift through the bullshit, I would actually welcome a Social Media platform similar to twitter but that only "professionals" with a certain level of credibility can post on
