Tuesday practice notes

Tavion and Robinson a full go. Wallace had a stinger 50/50, good news there. Bates had a great day, could be big Saturday. Back-up qb's getting a few more reps than usual.
Whoopee!!! Just what we expected to hear.

I said it right after the UGA loss, but I think Leary has a short leash this week. More evidence for that. Unfortunate for Devin but it's a necessity that we exercise all options and put future QBs in a position to succeed.

Not based on coens media time yesterday. Said the biggest thing they need is to stick with him.

Very telling imo coen spent much of his time addressing receivers and routes. Mentioned timing and depth still off (which I suspect is still Robinson). Raved about kattus about how he makes a play when given opportunities and those types of guys will be getting the ball. Praised key's response in the game and attention to detail.

When asked about brown just talked about how likable and coachable he is. Nothing about attention to detail, drops, etc

We'll see how it all unfolds. We're so close to being a lethal team. Frustrating to see little things constantly derail us

Everyone has their own personal pride in themselves.
I got to think every player wants to show the fans they are much better than the ass kicking they endured.
I'm thinking they play with hell and fury in each one of them.
They have something to prove.

I’d like to see Stoops come out in a practice report and say there’s going to be accountability for stupid penalties like pfs and repetitive penalties that negate big plays and put is in the hole. Been a problem through the years but keeps on happening.
ahhhh to have that much depth would be a blessing. We don't have it. Maybe some day, but not now. I would love to criticize football players for their bone headed moves(I do anyways..), but I had my share of penalties in HS.... and yes they were dumb. Who has played a lot and not had a penalty called on them? Never lined up offsides?.. never held on a block?... Never got so pissed you didn't shove your opponent?

Anyone who has played understands that, when you do it over and over it’s an issue.

I think Brown needs to forget about the passing game and just run back kick offs and punts and the occasional end around sweep mis-direction plays. He drops too many passes. We need to pass to Kattus and tight ends more.

And find out where the middle of the field is located.

Apparently Grant Bingham has hauled. Young OL at UK are an endangered species, see Goodwin flop, Hall injury, now Bingham.

Heard he left the program.
There is obviously something seriously wrong in that OL room.

I still think there is a serious coaching problem.

Think about the highly rated OL that have left the program over the last 2 years that never got the chance to see the field, while one certain OL player can continue to stink up the place and miss assignments, yet gets trotted out there game after game.

That has hot to be a hard pill to swallow for the other players.

Jmo but it's a simple answer: many of these guys were recruited to a physical inside zone scheme. Now we run the exact opposite and those guys don't have the skillset. That's the reason we're seeing the Exodus.

I definitely think it's an iffy move to completely change our system from one that let us nearly handpick from the physical OL from the Midwest. I'd rather keep our big guy pipeline we had and stay physical. That's just me.

All that said, upon watching binghams tape, I immediately posted concern because his hs system always has him leaving the down lineman (as the read man) and blocking a lb/s in space. He shows elite athleticism but showed no ability to block a down lineman. That was extremely concerning.

Fwiw when signed Goodwin, I immediately posted concern about his physical build and questioned how he would ever succeed the sec.

All I know is since we lost JS, we have been unable to do either blocking scheme well, and our best OL have come from someone else's program (coaching).

I think either we got conned into thinking he was fine or Stoops took a big risk knowing he might not be the same and failed.
I think it is likely the second option. Plus it has gotten in his head which is making it worse. Needs to go out and just throw the ball. Quit thinking about it so much

Bingham was class of 2022. Coen and Scan have been/should have recruit(ed/ing) linemen for their outside/wide zone schemes.

We haven't been dedicated to perpetuating inside zone since Gran.

Yes but that doesn't change who we had and who we had coming in. Plus we brought inside zone back the second half of coens first year because he didn't have the guys to run his stuff.

Last year was the first time we really made an effort to run it and we struggled mostly due to personnel. So really last year's incoming OL guys were the first recruited with an eye towards our current system.

It isn't a lack of development or coaching. It's just a group of players recruited for the previous system.

Love to hear the backup QBs getting more snaps. That's just common sense and should be a wake up call to Leary. I hope he find himself very quickly.

Stoops will 100% NEVER take Leary out unless he has something broken. It's absurd how he's like that...

I think the favoritism shown towards JB hurts the whole team. You have a guy who single handedly put the game out of reach so early in the game because of his stupid penalties (that he seems to do every game except the UF game), he comes off the field with a huge smile on his face and then goes right back into the game. That has to be demoralizing.
