The ACC is such a joke. Duke hosting 4-12 Miami. I don't even know how a power conference team can even have that many losses at this point in the season.

Duke this year is like Gonzaga, and they'll be given a 1 seed just like Gonzaga used to get every year. Then they'll face the same question in the NCAAT: is their cupcake conference detrimental to their title hopes?

We need to hope that your scenario is right where Duke comes in soft from ACC play.. because there are two very glaring differences for me when comparing Duke and Gonzaga. 1. Duke has NBA level talent, and Flagg. 2. They will get ALL the calls as the NCAA tries to give more exposure to Flagg, who will undoubtedly start to become "must watch" TV, in the way Jimmer and Steph were for their tournaments.

Those are two VERY big problems.

Duke also has a top 3 defense in the country which Gonzaga has never sniffed.

Nice to see Duke fans even starting to acknowledge the treatment they get lol.

I also in no way think Duke is a top3 defense. The fact is the ACC is so bad this year, some of these teams just don't have the talent to put up decent PPP numbers. Sure, some of that is Duke's doing.. but some of it is playing conference opponents whose KenPom numbers are in the 150's.

The conference schedules DO matter, when the SEC has all 16 teams in the Kenpom top70.. the ACC has maybe 8.. That's just too big of a difference to make me think that Duke's defense is any measurable amount better than EVERY single SEC team...

My mistake, Duke is a top 2 defense per Ken Pom, not top 3.
In addition to that, Ken Pom factors in Strength of Schedule and efficiency margins. Duke has played the 19th toughest Strength of Schedule so far, UK has played the 22nd toughest. I'm well aware this will change as we get deeper into conference play. UK will finish with a top 10 toughest SOS.

Yes, the SEC is ridiculous, probably the deepest a conference has ever been. Duke has played 2 SEC teams (including the best one) and UK has played 3 SEC teams so far (not including the best one).

Quick, any chance you can tell me who the other SEC team they played? Did they win that game?

The best one in the SEC hasn't been determined yet. You do realize the season is not over.

The hype for Flagg will start to take off as soon as CFB is done, and double that when the NFL wraps up. We're already starting to see it ramp up in the past week after his 42 pt game and that dunk being shown everywhere.

Good point about NBA talent (although Gonzaga has produced a few themselves over the years), but I just don't see any transcendent talent on that team. The Zion team had way more talent and a much better coach and didn't make the Final Four.

Flagg is an excellent player, and does everything well, but he's not some generational player. I just hope for Duke that his conditioning has improved since we played them. My prediction is that an SEC team roughs them up knocks them out this year.

They will! Might not be a SEC team, but some team TBA will out physical this duke team and send them packing during the tournament. Their lack of preparation in conference will be their undoing IMO. Kinda like Gonzaga in years past, like someone allowed to above.

The NCAA tournament isn't played at Cameron and so far, Duke has lost both neutral site games they've played against quality opponents.

I see DePaul up there

Anyone else (old like me) remember them always being like top 5 in the nation in the early 80s?

I can't remember one player they had though
Terry Cummings maybe?

They always flamed out in the NCAA - like - never made it past the second round I think

Anywho

I think they went to one final four the year after UK won in 78. 80s were a lot of earlier round losses though.

Damn shame that all three major SEC games share the same time slot. I can’t imagine that you’d get the highest cumulative ratings by doing that. At a minimum, either our game or the Bama-OM game should have been slotted at 9

Illinois just completely starched IU in Bloomington. Woodson isn't going to be back next season. I don't know if he will finish this one.

That damn Ohio State loss is getting worse every day it seems. Why does it seem like we always have 1 of those a year. I still am shocked not only to lose but by 20 ? I mean WTF was that.
